- Cold Water Fishing | Cage Feeder Vs Method Feeder
Join me for a session feeder fishing at High Heyes Fishery to see which feeder fishing technique is best at this time of year! The water temperature is now heading into the low single digit's and the fishing is getting tough in the north west, so which approach is best?!

Was a pleasure to spot u on the bank m8, and the hat kept my ears lovely and warm so thank you. I missed this vid being posted this morning as i was up early fishing at crook hall farm in mawdesley, had a cracking day with 80 fish caught and landed a 15lb 5oz common carp on 4mm pink wafter, ps my tench, bream and f1 all came on the 8mm wafter at high heyes too.
Dont think the bright skies and temp drop helped much that day tho, my head was warm but i was frozen.
Tight lines !
Here he is ! Awesome meeting you too Ste. Sounds like a Cracking day ! I have heard good things about Crook Hall farm . It certainly needs a fishery review video. Cannot beat pink wafters. It was most definitely a tough day! Tight lines 🎣
Well done for braving it out on a cold day it paid off in the end, pleased you met one of your subscribers and look forward to your next video.
Thanks Keith !
Just a tip from an old bricklayer, get your wellies a size too big, wear a thin pair of socks with a thick pair on top.
The secret is to have plenty of room in your wellies. If your wellies are tight the air and blood circulation is cut off,and your feet get cold.
Great advice Stan ! As always 👌🏻
My favorite winter bait is chocolate boile on dark method feeder. It is only thing that worked even over frozen lakes. Chuck it in deepest part, and left there for 30min. If no indications, chuck 2m left, 2m right (fish dont move much, so you need find them). The only difference i would do is using clip. Think it has something with how feeder hit the water surface different ( bait spilling out of feeder on surface) if you dont.
Your technique does work ! It’s the one I would normally use when fishing feeder in the winter 👌🏻👍🏻🎣
Heading here this Sunday
A tip .Get some rod tip and butt elasticated protectors stops tangles on made up rods in the bag
Honestly Barbara … I have some, I’m just lazy and don’t like taking them on and off 😂 so only myself to blame !
I always use a couple of old bootlaces to hold my made up rods together when in the bag just keeps them tidy and make them easier to get out
Nice and easy Paul good idea !!
Love the vids m8. Basic and to the point, no BS like many who do vids on here. Keep them coming.
Thank you so much for commenting 👌🏻👍🏻🎣 means a lot !
Another really enjoyable video. I usually only fish one rod, but my mate uses two. He uses a feeder, and a float at the same time, with the float directly in line with the feeder tip, so he can see both at the same time, no need for bite alarms.
Looking forward to the next one 🎣.
Takes some skill that Stewart love it 😂👌🏻
Absolutely love this Channel. I came across your videos a couple of months ago and you inspired me to pick up fishing after a 10 year gap! Better still my youngest son now comes with me and has caught the bug too! Only your recommendation I bought the Shiman areo rod and reel combo. Love it.
Also on your recommendation we started fishing Wrightington. Went today (3/12) and caught 7 carp ranging from 4 pound up to a whopping 12 pound!!! Keep up the good work and thank you! Hope to meet up with you on the bank one day!
Mate that’s absolutely awesome great bonding time for you both ! My dad still uses the areo rods and is really impressed with them too ! I had a great day at wrightington this week as well ! It’s fishing very well ! Glad people are taking some tips and managing to catch a few off the back of it. Tight lines 🎣
Well done on such a cold day. It does make a difference just to catch a couple when its so cold.
Thanks Col ! Tight lines 🎣
Well done you stuck it out and caught on a very cold day good to see the pink wafters worked again you've convinced me to try them in the spring keep up the good work I look forward to your videos 👍
Wait till you see my next upload on the pink wafters John. I had an absolutely epic December session using them 👌🏻👍🏻
Braver man than me to fish in this cold weather, I even had to put a coat on just to watch 😂😂😂🎣🎣🎣 great angling bud 🎣🎣
😂😂😂 wait till there is ice on the water ❄️❄️❄️
Enjoyable realistic tough day............very enjoyable. Those cheap feeders are very useful :)
They aren’t bad, they fit with the ‘small red Preston innovations banjo moulds’ just about 😂
Great videos and great advice cheers
Thanks Shaun! 🎣👌🏻

I’ve gone to using a method feeder,in-line lead or using a margin pole(8.5) these days. Very rarely use maggots or worms. Just corn, pellets or wafters. Having some of the best fishing in the last 30 years. Keep up the good work mate.
That’s interesting! Sounds like you have had a similar experience to me 👌🏻👍🏻 what are your favourite pellets ?
@@WestysAngling I’m quite a fan of CC Moore pacific tuna pellets.
I have the boilies carp do love them 👌🏻👍🏻
Love the vids m8, keep them coming !
Another great video,as others have said brave for going out on a cold day but at least you didn't blank,I'm definitely going to have to get some pink wafters you always seem to catch where ever you fish, keep up the great content 👍.
I always do well on them ! Wait till you see the video launching on Tuesday you will buy a bucket load 😂🎣 thanks Martin !
Lovely video again ,thank you. Sorry if I have missed it but how do you do the bread ?
Just wiz soft white bread up in a blender ( don’t add anything )
Nice session westy
Cheers buddy ! Wait for tonight’s upload !👌🏻👍🏻
@@WestysAngling can’t wait
Good video mate good information but l noticed you have a bait runner reel on your float rod and normal on your feeder's shouldn't it be the other way round Cheers
Hi Alan ! Yes definitely it’s just an old light small reel and don’t fish float often so I just use it on my float rod. I prefer rear drag reels 👌🏻👍🏻
Don’t remember if you ever use attractants?
If so, what?
I don’t normally use attractants…I do on the rare occasion, I like pineapple goo and haze as attractants.
That is so weird, because just before Ste turned up I was thinking of doing the same! 😳🤣🎣☕
😂🎣
Those rods look stunning what are they please
They are beautiful mate. Just hard to find now ‘Shimano Speedmasters’ 9-11ft you can alter the length 🎣
I have recently acquired two korum feeder rods 10ft up to 45g not as ashetically pleasing but doing the job well your contents great thanks again for the reply and winter may be harder going but it makes the rewards better and as in the video its you against the fish not other anglers as their mostly empty during the colder months I love it tight lines
Do you rate them Adam ? This is so true Adam ! I love the frosty mornings and challenging fishing ❄️
Nice one buddy tough conditions but you still cracked on 👍
Thanks Darren !
do you fish anywhere else other than ponds ?
I will be doing more next year 👌🏻
Will try the bread on feeder not tried it
Works great buddy ! Extremely effective alternative to groundbait 👌🏻
Hi there.
Have you been to a fishery called gingham over at Horwich 😁, plenty of big bream to be had and massive carp. I would love it if you did a video for it just to see how you get on. Best methods are method feeder and carp type setups.

Hi Neil !! I will see if my dad fancies it! How do you think it will fish through the winter months ? I will have a look into it. Thank you for the suggestion 👌🏻🎣
It should fish quite well, has a good head of bream to be had and maybe the odd bonus carp too 😁, feeders to the middle will get you a few 😁
Sounds great!
Neil, I have been told it’s permanently closed due to poaching! Is that correct ? When was the last time you fished it ?
Was open 2 weeks ago 😁
Genuine question, why is your hook so far from the cage feeder. The bait will be nowhere near the hook ? I would fish longer hooklengh on a river but never in a lake. Can you explain why if you get the time to read this. Im genuinely interested. I may learn somwthing :)
All questions are welcome! The reason is that sometimes fish like bream will shy away from the feeder itself in colder months and will hang back away from it. Because they are hanging back they are more confident to take you’re hookbait that isn’t close to the feeder.
Awesome, i shall give it a try
