Time sure flies doesn't it! I saw many of these guys play when I was growing up as a kid in the late 1960s... I'm turning 67 on November 20. So sad to see so many familiar faces pass away.
I hear you brother, I turned 67 in July. Roman Gabriel was my first football hero and I met him and became good friends with him about 12 years ago as he went to the same gym as me back home in South Carolina. He is originally from Wilmington, NC. I sure miss him as we had some awesome conversations in the gym about the old NFL back when he played. I'm retired army so he liked to hear my stories as well. Man I loved the NFL back then, but don't care for it much anymore.
@@mikeallen3518 I grew up as a kid watching most of these guys play. I was a Ram fan living in the L.A. area idolizing Roman Gabriel, Deacon Jones, Merlin Olsen, Bernie Casey... Hard to watch them pass on.
@@69FOSTER Being from North Carolina my whole family were big Roman Gabriel fans cause he was from Wilmington, NC and played at NC State, so that made us Rams fans too. The Carolina Panthers didn't exist back then. I liked the Packers back then too and Bart Starr. So I am so blessed to have met and become good friends with Roman. You will appreciate this story......I asked him this one day in the gym, "Roman just how tough was it to play in Green Bay back in those days of the Glory Years in the NFL? (I always told him he played in the Glory Years of the NFL, he would always smile and liked to hear that from me).......So Roman said to me, "Mike we would get on the plane in LA and it would be 80 degrees and we'd get off in Green Bay and it would be 20 degrees, then I had to go out there and face Ray Nitschke all day." That said it all because as you may recall Ray was a terror in the NFL back then much like Dick Butkus. And there were no special rules to protect the QB back then either. Man I miss talking to Roman in the gym brother. Yes they were ALL special to us back then and it is so hard to see them pass away. Its like we are losing our own family members when they do.
@@mikeallen3518 Mike I share your sentiment. Today it's so much more about making money than the love of the game. I'm a former first responder as well (law enforcement). Best wishes!
It’s a damn shame that Andy Russell is not in the hall of fame. The man had 7 damn pro bowls, 7 PRO BOWLS!!! There are a lot of people that have been inducted with far less. Put the man in. He was the founder of the Steel Curtain
Makes you cry. Like each of us they had a place in time. It came and it went and it reaches out to another generation. But that time and place is very unique and very special. They played the game and we loved them❤ for it.
Remember watching Abner Haynes of the KC Chiefs running wild in Balboa Stadium in San Diego vs. the Chargers in the old AFL in 1962-63. What a runner! RIP, #28.
I watched Golden Richards play at the Univ. of Hawaii in the early 70's, then saw him catch a pass years later for a SuperBowl TD. I always liked how he played the game.
May each of these players, and all who have passed since this video was made, rest in peace. May their family members and friends be healed and comforted.
Thanks for pointing that out. The mistake will be corrected in the next video update, which will cover the whole year 2024. I wouldn't have noticed this mistake without your help. Thank you!
Before you're comment I didn't even know Apollo Creed was an former NFL player. Wow! You just blew my mind. But I'll add him in 3 month, when the whole year is over.
May they all live on in after school afternoons in a cool breeze , angled sun ,with playground screams of pickup dreams ….let it be those memories ,to live on in eyes of future dreams.

I've been saying that for years
How can he not be in the hall? We used to call it “The old man and the D”
Damn right.
The NFL Pro Bowl was an all-out football game then where the players didn't pull out with these phantom injuries.
dont worry brother he will be in there and it is a crime a real crime that they even let him pass on and dint bless him with his family now thats sad

Poor OJ.
Spent the rest of his days trying to find the real killer.
Must have been Delvin Williams, Franco Harris or Earl Campell. Maybe Tony Dorsett.

Very well done! Many guys here played when the money wasn’t great. I really appreciate the recognition for CFL players as well!!
My favorite player growing up was Pat Fischer (5-9 165 pounds) who died in October of this year at age 84.
