Great return! That narration/summary at the beginning was a great way to bring everyone up to speed. One thing I don't get, at 1:24 ??? I thought Brian said in a previous video that freight brokers would bring in business for railcar storage when the rails are ready. Has that changed?
To drum up leads for transloading, you could find out who is utilizing transloading locally that would be similar to what you would have to offer. Without making any enemies, find out who the customers are. Cold call them on the phone and offer a competitive discount to get their business. Ask for business the same way R.J. Corman did when he started out.

What i would also love to see down the road is once you guys are further along and have some contracts in place and/or are comfortable reveaking your location, it would be cool to hear about the history of the particular branch you bought (if we havent already). If you have mentioned the history, i apologize for not remembering. let me know i will go back and watch that particular episode. Glad to see you back! Better get a Stihl chainsaw... Gas or electric. It may be German engineering, but it is still "Made in the USA"! The older brands that I used in the past were all sold off to China to "make a buck". But, do get a chain sharpener, because the "stock" chains are not as aggressive as what you can set with the saw. When you cut walnut, hickory, locust, oak or other hardwoods (let alone epay, a/k/a ironwood), you need a sharper chain than what they will sell you by default in a store. Start with the "default" chain and then resharpen the chain with a professional sharpening shop or learn to do the work yourself. You will need 2-3 chains. And get some chainsaw chaps, vest and gloves to ensure that you don't cut into yourself. You already have the safety glasses, boots and hardhats. But face protection in chainsaw work needs a full face shield and hearing protection beyond earbuds (even noise-cancelling types).

I envisioned this long railroad and I don't know why but now I understand what it is you have and what it is you're trying to do and if you can get a customer or two and make money at it that's great
Looking at other small railroads the biggest problem seems to be the maintenance required the amount of money and time that has to be spent constantly replacing ties and ballast.
It sounds like you have some equipment but what do you plan to do for replacing the ballast and the ties as they need replacing ?
Can you rent the equipment needed and get the railroad you connect with to supply you with the ballast and rent the cars needed or are you planning on manually bringing the ballast using a front loader or some other equipment that you already own ?

I think you will find the dozer handier for a lot of the other clearing work. Same as with the saw, though, watch out for those widowmakers. Guards over the radiator, covering behind you, and over you, highly recommended. Front to protect the radiator, from behind in case a chain or cable breaks, overhead in case something in the tree you are trying to push over falls. That dead one breaking so easy is a fitting example.
Beware of saplings pinned under a dropped tree. Cutting one loose from the ground, and being in the wrong spot, can result in getting your teeth relocated or worse. At best, you'll look like you paid a visit to Cotton Eyed Joe's.

I have to agree with the comment that said you are cutting trees in a dangerous way. It also looked to me like your chain wasn’t sharp. It took far too long to cut those trees. If the saw is putting out fine dust instead of chips, the chain is dull. Also I recommend you invest in a Stihl Farm Boss or professional saw. They will perform better and last longer. Get a spare chain so that when one dulls, you can change out, get back to work and have the dull one sharpened.

I did a large clearing for a pond and I used nothing but a battery chain saw. It is a 14” saw and I was cutting trees up to 20”. It was not a Dewalt, it was a better saw without the Dewalt price. The saw worked so well that I found the job more pleasant than any others. I had 4 batteries (2 sets) so I could cut without any stopping.

Glad you guys are back. Looking forward to season two. Hope you will think of adding a pull over hoodie and a long sleeve t-shirt to your merchandise.

Like your determination but ditch the Poulan and get a real saw. My Poulan lasted 10 cord of wood then the clutch went out. That was in 1987, bought a Stihl and it starts every time. 30 plus years.

There is nothing inherently wrong with that Poulan chain saw. It is light duty, but then you are not professional loggers. Just take care of it, keep it sharpened and oiled, and you will be fine with it. Thanks for the videos. I have watched them all. Jon, U.P., Pacific Coast line, Santa Barbara sub, M.P. 404.

It is better to get someone who can teach you, and show you your mistakes live. Every tree is different and there are so much ways to deal with it. A Video will never teach you all. The part with the jamed Dewalt and the the thing with the crane to but load on a log while sawing were scary.
