When I was a kid back in the '40s & '50s, we used to buy Parched Corn at Morrow's Nut House in Downtown Toledo.

I'm glad you mentioned the difference between field corn and feed corn, I always thought they were the same thing, dent corn some people call it.
I'm curious if the homemade variety has the same teeth cracking ability as the store bought corn nuts? I'll be trying this.

Mom-in-law showed Me how to fry corn in drippings. Much like this. Just added a little flour at the end to make gravy.
And My dogs love when something gets drained on paper towels. I give them the whole towel and they chew it like shreds left on a bone.

Always wondered what corn nuts were and how they were made. That looks like something better made outside, so all that grease popping out, wont cause a lot more work in the kitchen. lol I am all about cooking fried stuff outside. Leave it to the mountain folk to know how to make any kind of food, edible. Leave the corn on the stalk too long.....no problem. This is how to fix it so you can eat it. Loved it.

Wow, just tried this with feed corn and it's amazing! I know you don't suggest that, but it's all I had on hand and the video made me miss corn nuts so much that I had to try! I'll be looking to plant the variety you suggested this Spring! Thanks so much for yet another wonderful video! Off to try puffed rice next! You are quite the inspiration!

jnull0 I miss it when you don't post! I have been looking at seed catalogs and contemplating growing some field corn, but thinking that I don't know much about what to do with field corn. I am surrounded by sweet corn fields, both commercial and backyard, and no one I know has ever grown field corn here in California. You're a wealth of information!

That's nice if you have the teeth to eat them with. Take some ( about a hand full)(non salted), and throw them in a pot of water and bring them to a boil for about 3 to 5 minutes. Let it cool, pour the liquid into a pitcher and chill. Makes a good summer drink. Would you believe they call it corn tea. Best if you blanch the corn without the oil.
