I think the A54 is very underrated and suffers from bad naming & marketing from Samsung.

Bro, a54 is ANYTHING but s23 lite. Only thing that they have in common is design, that’s it. A54 got pretty good attention, but the thing is FE samsung phones exists. You can literally buy s20 FE for $150 which is way cheaper than a54, and s20 fe has way better cpu, camera, bigger screen and much more, for now, a54 is kinda mid. But after like 1 or more years, it will cost way less, and it will be popular

The pixel photos are terrible. These youtubers are lying, they are taking photos they know will turn out good on the pixel and avoiding the situations where it simply fails to deliver. These two phones are a lot more close than most reviews show. The pixel is impressive in camera only if you ignore the reality of it's photos, and when you actually have one and actually try some raw photos you realize the following, it can't use high megapixel modes, only 12.5, it's raw photos are terrible and then it over sharpens and does AI reconstruction to make what to me looks clearly like a low quality AI upscaled photo. The only thing it does right is white balance and exposure and for that it sacrifices the option to shoot in high Megapixel modes. In the end, I don't think it's worth it. I find the resulting photos to be overprocessed to hell and back.
The worst part is that you could just put in the samsung's photos into an AI upscaler and get better results.

The A54 camera deceptively looks nicer, until you look closer at it. It's only making the colors pop, but it loses a lot of defintion. I'll choose SD card expansion over 7watts wireless charging any day. Both phones take good photos. Do we expect people who buy midrange phones to zoom in their photos and look for the finer details? no one will probably bother once you post it on social media edited with some sort of filter. Here in the UK you get galaxy airbuds2 for free if you get the A54. With 4 os updates and 5 years security updates, this should be enough until I get another phone. Needless to say, I chose A54 for practical reasons and I'm happy with it.

I got a chance to try them out at my local Best Buy. The 7a does have a wider wide camera len and seems super quicker than the A54. But I like the A54 for the expandable memory slot and all that battery, brighter and bigger screen. The 7a doesn’t feel like plastic unlike the A54. For the 7a, the fact that it has wireless charging, I can slap a MagSafe like magnets behind it and use a battery case. Truly a tough decision.

In my opinion, Samsung overprices their phones at launch, because believe it or not, here in Slovenia (for example) the Galaxy A54 is going for 264€ (24x11€ - on a carrier plan/contract) and the A34 is going for just 216€ (24x9€) again, on a carrier plan/contract. Meanwhile for pixel phones, the only available option at 1 of 5 carriers is the older Pixel 6, which is selling for a mind blowing 690€, with carrier plan/contract (head scratching), and the Pixel 7 is available from 2 other stores (for 650€, but the phones actually get ordered/shipped in from other countries). So just from the price difference and availability standpoint, I wouldn't get near the pixel phones and just stick to the A series and is not even comparable in my opinion. Would love to hear anyone else's opinion on this or on the situation where they live....

I literally came from the Poco F3 and the biggest problem with it was that it didn't play nice with WiFi calling and its cellular connectivity was horrible compared to my wife's Pixel 5. I live in a rural area so the service discrepancies were particularly noticeable. Otherwise I may have gone for the F5. But honestly, we've reached a point now where the best value mid range phone is absolutely good enough as far as this cats concerned. 1. Great Battery life of 5000 MAH.
    2. Better protection (Gorilla Glass 5 both front and back) + IP67 water & dust resistant.
    3. Good Camera with OIS main camera & 32 GB Front selfie camera.
    4. Samsung Knox security for device protection.
    5. Amazing storage of 256 GB
    6. Amazing Ram of 8 GB
    7. 120 Hz Display which is smooth as butter
    7. 70% of Samsung flagship device features such as One UI 5.0 (with upcoming updates), Secure Folder etc.
    8. Surprizingly, the Exynos 1380 chipset is very fast in day to day life with minor lags (unnoticeable).
    9. Last but not the least 4 years of OS updates & 5 years of security updates.

Pixel 7a charges slowly and has a smaller battery. Not a good combination. If it's going to charge slowly at least give it a bigger and longer lasting battery. It's a better phone overall though. Even though the Samsung gets an extra year of OS updates, you have to take into account that it takes about 6 months to get them on their midrange phones. So in reality you're probably getting 3 OS updates and not 4, compared to 3 quicker OS updates on the Pixel 7a

The quality of the screen is also subpar compared to the A54. Battery life is disastrous in the 7a, quite worse than the 7, weirdly. Hey Tech Chap, overall, a very informative and clearly articulated video. Great lighting and camera positioning. I've been thinking of upgrading from my Samsung A42. However, it is difficult to make a prudent decision. Often new phones are only incrementally faster than older models. In other words, the operating speed is just barely noticeable to the human eye. Usually, it does not overwhelm you - there's no great Gestalt moment. I do a lot of Facebook reels. I don't think a 1 pixel difference will make that much of a difference on the selfie camera. So, putting out the extra cash is probably not the best purchase for me at this time. Keep up the great work. P.S. In California, where I live, the A54 is already discounted to 324.95, pushing to move product. Shalom, Ted.

I was recently deciding between the Pixel 6A and the A54. I decided on the A54. Here's why: The Pixel A series phones do have better overall cameras and a better processor, but pretty much everything else is better on the A54: Build quality, battery, charging speed, software support, screen size (unless you like small screens), screen brightness, screen quality, a macro camera for closeups, better customization options, and, in my opinion, a better operating system, as the stock Android is boring to me. The Pixel 7A's Tensor processor is about as powerful as your S20's processor, which is better than the one in the A54, but it also tends to overheat easier. Last, I've heard that the Pixel phones tend to glitch a lot.
Unless you need the extra power in your processor, better quality photos, or the handful of Google specific features like Magic Eraser, I suggest the A54 over the Pixel 7A. I think my A54 is a good balance of good features for the price. For example, the cameras and processor may not be great, like the 7A, but they are still good. Perhaps you are bored with Samsung and want something new, though. In that case, you may enjoy the Pixel. I hope this helps your decision making.

I bought a 7a as a backup for my S22 Ultra, which is having issues, and I don't like it. Don't like the UI, the theme, the lack of customizability like Samsungs have. I also hate the fact you can't expand the storage. It just doesn't do it for me.

I heard from other tech reviewer that it used Chinese amoled rather than samsung or lg maybe that's one of the reason it has low cost and also the camera they didn't used sony sensor it's reasonable though it really good for people who do gaming a lot on their device but don't expect to all other key areas.

I don't much agree with TH-camrs when they over hype the camera capability of Pixel. From this particular comparison, I hardly see where Pixel 7a beat Galaxy A54. A54 were even better mostly in areas that users engage their cameras the most, like selfies and daylight photography.

Moving objects like the cat may be a deal breaker to many with kids and pets. A big fail by Samsung here, and they need to sort this out, as the A54 is an easy pass on that alone. However, I saw a speed test of the A54, which was terrible; laggy, poor RAM management, and horrid animations. That Exynos chip sucks, and good luck in two years' time!

Pixel 7a currently available for £449 RRP and you can get £70 off from Boxing Day sales, and you can get an additional 5% off from a promo code available online which subtracts a further £22.45. Plus I'm trading in a 2019 Pixel 4 XL for £119, which I feel is pretty generous of them meaning it'll be £237.55, or 47.1% saving. I'm really pleased with that to be honest. I also suspect the May 2024 Pixel 8a will have another £50 bump up in price and obviously won't come with any sales until Black Friday in November and the Christmas sales too, so the 7a right now seems a steal. Jan 9th is when Google sale ends.

I traded-in my Z Flip 3 and picked up a Pixel 7a; and honestly, I'm going to stick to Pixel phones from now on. Never realized how much bloat and heavy Samsung's OneUI is when compared to stock android.
Also had really bad experiences with Samsung customer support for the Flip3 and I bought the special extended warranty for the thing.
