what are your hobbies? and do you limit the space equipment can take up or do you try to limit the equipment in any other way?

ecofriend. lia I wondered if one of your hobbies was knitting, when I saw your obviously hand-knitted, and interesting, sweater! I’m a knitter too (I was wondering if there’s a pattern on the sleeves, or if I’m just seeing thick places in the yarn.) I am and have been in the process of de-cluttering my mother’s yarn stash. She died 6 years ago, and she was a hoarder, including of yarn and knitting equipment. My mother’s stuff still takes up too much space in our basement. Thanks for giving me good questions to ask myself about the yarn and knitting equipment! (I also spin wool.) Hand spun yarn is wonderful to knit with.

Hi, I try to only buy the essential tools I need. If I start to feel like I want more od the same, I just wait until I actually need it before thinking about buying it. For example I want to get extra tatting shuttle which is hand painted. I go online and see what designs they have available. But notice that there is extra charge for shopping, they dont have the colour I want. So basically its not a need but a want. I then try to use the tatting shuttles I already have, and try to organise my craft area to try to make it more visually appealing so that I feel more excited about using my craft room. I have sewn a sewing table organiser which allows me to keep my tools at arms reach at all times.

I love knitting, drawing, and sewing. I had a serious fabric buying issue and I’m currently on a no buy/decluttering for my fabric. I’ve been trying to use a lot of my stash up for clothes for my kids! I struggle with finding the time to do all the things I feel inspired to do. I hope to have a little more time to do these things as my kids get older but we will see. 😂 I love knitting because I can do it in bed or watching a movie with my husband and when we are traveling. I kind of go back and forth with what I want to focus on. I also love staying active with yoga and running and bike riding.

I came to this because I am moving, and I have two small/medium boxes of fabric and a sewing machine. I don't really like sewing, as compared to knitting and felting, but have been doing it for most of my life. I love having fabric scraps available to mend clothes, wrap presents (most of my fabric is old clothes) etc. I have been saving them because I am a dancer and would like to wear strange and decadent costumes like my dear friend. But a year has passed and I have sewn half of a costume. So I think it may be time to let this go. What I really love about fiber arts is the ancient and very spiritual art of making cloth - and so I think I would be much better served to spin my own yarn and do so the long way. If I really need to make a shirt, or what not - I can go get the fabric for the individual project (however this costs money so I am torn!)

I've been slowly decluttering and yesterday I found my candle making stuff that I hadn't touched in over 8 months. It was a little bit hard at first the idea of letting go but I realized that I once liked making candle's but not anymore. They will be going to a good home.

I am definitely a 'challenged hobby person' 😁 Meaning that I am a person who really gets into my hobbies - photography (on a high level you can say), painting, sewing, ceramics etc.
On one hand the challenges is raging my children. Even though I might be able to declutter e.i. my large amount of fabrics, paint and other paper hobby items - then I have a quite creative daughter at 10 years old. I am pretty ure she could nd up finding joy in some of the things. But it is difficult to know which items shoe would like 2 yeats from now when her taste and interests change. Since they have been so expensive I would feel a but stupid for not keeping all the things as long as she is living home. On the other hand I wish I could get rid of them...🙈
Another challenge on my side - i.e. I have bought stuff for ceramics I can only use when I take classes (because you need the special oven to burn cheramics). I don't attend classes at the moment but might in 3 years. I have bought some orders paint quite expensive, it doesn't dry out. But it is stupid to keep things like that?
Any good advice for this situation? Thanks a lot in advance - and for all your lovely and very inspiring videos 🌱

My hobbies are ukulele, sewing, knitting, and drawing. I just started to declutter and I realized I had a lot of old art supplies like paint and brushes from when I was attending art school. I have accepted that those are not my interests anymore. I realized once I accepted and let it go. I felt a lot lighter.

Oh, I can totally imagine! It is so valuable to realize that sometimes we just change and that this is perfectly fine, and it makes more sense to not burden ourselves with ideas from the past but to focus what we are passionate about right now! I always try to do that while also trying to not be wasteful ☺

ecofriend. lia I gave some art supplies to my neighbors through the Buy Nothing Project. You should look to see if you have a group where you live. Many moms stuck at home were thankful to receive my items.

Gardening, sewing, knitting, lotions and potions. I let go of making jewellery and wind chimes as well as adult colouring in books. I have a modern sewing machine and a very old black vintage sewing machine and it causes many sparks of joy just looking at it

    A knitting minimalist?! Yes please!!!!
My main hobby is crafting - mainly knitting - but I looooove to try new crafts, which is not minimalist friendly due to needing to obtain new supplies etc.
I like crafting because it is something to do with my hands and mind, and I like learning new skills.
I am working on reducing my amount of supplies. This year is a big no-buy craft supplies and focus on using what I have until I am at an amount that makes me happy.

this is such a good idea, to do a no-buy year for one specific area! How does it go so far?

ecofriend. lia it’s going really well! I did a big sort through of all my supplies and really refined down to just want I really love and am interested in using in the near future and passed on a lot of supplies. Now I’m even more motivated to use what I have!

As someone with a lot of flow equipment I have found that for me the perfect minimal toy is swing flags, they are simple to make with scrap fabrics, and fold up teeny tiny pocket size. I love the idea of playing with balance and control of the body, so enjoyable! Thanks for sharing !

A friend of mine buys patterned sheets from thrift stores and makes clothes for her daughters and grandchildren. For $US2 she can make several items of clothing.

I had so many quilting fabrics and realized I'm not that into quilting so I have them to a friend who is. I kept all my clothing fabrics though we'll see if I actually sew them anytime soon. It was nice to have fabric on hand when there was a student need for face masks and I was able to use what I had to help friend and family!

I should sort, organise and declutter my scouting materials. I'm a scout leader (I'm suvi_puskari on insta) so I have printed instructions, pictures, made cards, collected bandage for first aid practice etc. It's a hard one because my local organisation, which I could donate some of these items to, is super unorganised thanks to our last move(s). Our stuff is in different places and we should do inventory. One reason why I make and collect these materials in my home is because I don't know what we already have and where it is. So for now, that area of decluttering is waiting a bit. I am decluttering the things that have copies on the internet though. And I think many of these things would ideally be shared with other leaders online. So scanning and organising would take place.

Oh this sounds a little overwhelming 🙂 but I am sure it will be very beneficial to the other leaders and to you once you have the time and energy to tackle it 😉👍

I am currently mulling over the fact that my tie dye hobby isn't so environmentally friendly. I quit buying rubber bands and tin foil and just use string, cardboard, or metal clamps now, but I am unsure if I will continue the hobby because of the chemicals that I have to use. They are unsafe for animals and the only place I can safely dispose of the liquids is down the drain. I need to research more but I think eventually everything from the sewers ends up going to the ocean or at least some natural body of water. It is a hard decision to quit something you love when you realize it may be harmful to our mother earth.

I guess it is a hard decision giving up a hobby you like, but of course these are good reasons. but have you ever tried plant dyes? I recently tie dyed a shirt with completely natural dye. Of course the colors don´t turn out as bright but I also really love the earthy and natural colors. Avocado skin and pits or onion skin are great ones to start with. I hope you find a good solution! :)
