And Andross being professional enough that he's actually pissed that Fox wasn't given back his clothes.

Aside from the obvious animation and sound quality, take a moment to appreciate just how GOOD the writing really is. Not much actually happens this episode (Fox is captured and, after some talking, meets Andross) but you don't notice because the characters are so fun. They're true to the games while also avoiding cliches a lot of other fan works fall into. Take the Star Fox team, for example. In other fanmade works Falco is usually some jerk, Slippy is annoying, and Peppy is grumpy and senile. Fox himself is generally either super arrogant or else the Only Sane Man. Here we get a chill bro Falco (whose voice is a throwback to the original SNES game many people wouldn't catch), a likable Slippy, a seasoned Peppy, and a good-but-not-perfect Fox. You get the vibe they care for each other, are individually competent, and are actually a TEAM, which even the GAMES don't do sometimes. As for the baddies, the Venomians are still enemies to Star Fox but they don't come off as EVIL but as people who happened to be on the other side. Andrew, generally the least liked/characterized Star Wolf member, gets a surprising amount of depth and personality from a handful of lines. Wolf has this awesome antagonist-but-kind-of-big-brother vibe with Fox. Best of all might be Andross, who you can still see being evil and wanting to take over the system but is, at the same time, an old man. This is all extremely creative and well-executed: fresh, but familiar. The parts we've seen of Episode 2 look similar in quality. Can't wait to watch it when it comes out!
Poor Fara, poor Bill, and above all, poor Cael O'Donnell. Just imagine when he croaks, would Wolf even care? If he did, would he even be able to attend a funeral considering all he's done.
I just wanna know what the "when we were in academy" line was about. That would imply they were there together, but Wolf being obviously older and then having seen Episode 2 that's clearly not the case.
@@coleciervo5454 My guess since it's been some years between this and the second episode, some things plot-wise got changed up a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if one day he'll re-make the first episode to fit the current vision.
I think Nintendo needs to step up and direct some focus to the Starfox IP. Sure, the most recent game, Zero sold pretty poorly, but I think they can make something grand, something that will heal the franchise and make it reach even higher heights than what it was previously. Of course, I believe that things are becoming better, as Starfox's inclusion in Starlink: Battle for Atlas was really good. I think that Ubisoft should be given the chance of producing a 100% Starfox game, featuring similar open world elements to Starlink. They could also feature some boots on the ground segments like Assualt did, which will not only appeal to vehicle goers, but also to rushers who just want some ground action. The Starfox IP has a lot of potential and I don't want to see it die.
I'm late to the party on this one, but this exceeded anything I thought I would be. It's so clear just how much you all appreciate not only StarFox, but also the charm of classic animation.
These are the best voice actors you could have possibly gotten on this project. The exchange in dialogue between the other Star Fox members, as well as between Fox and Wolf are the most well-written and well-executed lines I've seen in a long time. Good work.
He voices if I'm correct Fox, wolf, Falco, Peppy, James (not shown yet), that guy in the red shirt, leon, those goons in the bar (not the white hair one), and Andros He also has done all the music with his friend doing the saxophone work.
I love the dry humor in this. It is so subtle yet so funny, and this show takes it to the point of fox taking his pants off for reasons we can all guess.
I was told that's the show where nobody talks to each other except for the occasional insult and then things just sort of happen for no reason Yeah I watched the Jelloapocalypse this is basically CB vid, so?
This is just so good man. The characterizations are spot-on with plenty of show-dont-tell, I just love it. The Star Fox team talks and operates like a team who has been together for a long time, Wolf and Fox have a great dynamic, Andross has an amazing voice and style, just perfection!
Daniel Wilson oh dude I love tome the series was the best even the ending and he did a new animation for it to celebrate its anniversary though as of right now all he does is podcast and vlogs
If Nintendo can't make a decent starfox game with a decent storyline, this guy will! As a Star Fox fan, I appreciate this man who put all his hard work and effort into this masterpiece!
Also, I very much appreciate that three of the four Star Fox members voices sound like their SNES "talk-sounds". (The one being Peppy, because he really does have to sound like an older guy with a bit of a southern accent)
@@Obstreperous_Octopus lets not forget the SNES era art-style and how the arwings and great fox resemble something out of StarFox2 and the Arwings you see in the ending to StarFox 1
@@voicermmi I wonder if they'll ever pick up after where Command left off since that had several endings or they'll just pick up where Assault left off.
I love how Wolf in this series is characterised as kind of a loser thug who's in way over his head. A big contrast to his foppish 'Evil Brit' persona from the games, but a welcome one. 0:55 especially is a nice touch, with Wolf struggling to keep his plane straight and kicking off against the dashboard. His interactions with Fox also give of these ''former best friend who you realised was a bad influence so you're trying to distance yourself''-vibes.
I absolutely adore this character direction you took with the starfox cast. Especially Wolf. He isn't the generic bad guy he's depicted as in more recent starfox media. this is just a masterpiece
The fact that you got that scene with wolf saying "what!?" Without speaking, is incredible considering you only had a wolf mouth to manipulate. I come back to this regularly and it's still one of the best animated pieces out there.
holy crap, is anyone else struck by the voice acting on this? They made SLIPPY not only tolerable, but charming! There is no give in quality in any aspect of this animation.
AngusET I to love that slippy got some love. That toads their tech, and it makes sense he cant fly like an ace, but he also doesn’t have to rape your eardrums.
Even 4 years later I'm still coming back to this. There's not many fan projects I've found with this much heart put into it. Seriously, its unreal. Watching this puts me in such a good place and it never gets old. The craftsmanship and talent that oozes from this is just... inconceivable.
Dat low-fi quality in the voices and the very natural acting itself... this just sooo much like Ralph Bakshi cartoons from back then... wow. Loving it.
One comment I wanted to add is your portrayal of Andrew. In the games he was like a spoilt rich kid related to Andross. But in this you made him a genuinely likable and relatable character. Someone who feels he was left behind by Fox and seems dejected about it. That's just the kinda vibe I get.
If I wasn't aware that Universal Parks and Resorts handled the Nintendo-themed places, I would have been less happy about this joke. But I am, they are, and I am more so.
I actually somehow missed this the first time and had to rewatch from the elevator scene and wow you're right it's there for the rest of the episode lol
I can't quote anything off the top of my head so take this with a grain of salt, but I think I vaguely remember hearing that the idea as well as the short was passed by Adult Swim's attention and they didn't really think much of it apparently, which is unfortunate. Not too surprising either though, I don't really know the Adult Swim guys for being the best judges of quality if it hit them over the face. Gems that go their way like Rick and Morty I sincerely think were flukes, considering for every Rick and Morty and Venture Brothers we've had 5 pieces of garbage that were probably put on TV as a dare.
I’ve watched this every few months since it came out, simply doesn’t get old, it’s a masterpiece and has better writing, art and story than most anything you find on TV.
Meanwhile on Adult TV... Where we have such "great" works of "art" such as... Big Mouth, Mr. Pickles, Tripping the Rift, Q-Force, Fairview, Hoops, Santa Inc. and M.o.d.o.k. Comedy has went down more of a downward spiral then the Oscars.
8:39 I just noticed that Wolf says "What the heck...." in a situation where someone with his personality in an environment like that would probably say "What the fuck" or "What the hell" at the very least. And other characters are swearing, so it's not like it's because this show is meant to be kid-friendly. But for fans of SF64, whenever you outmaneuver Wolf with a loop, he always says "What the heck?!" So it actually makes sense that he would say that particular minced oath here, and I think that's a very subtle and clever callback to the original games.
It's possible Wolf was just raised in an environment that didn't allow for swearing, and so the "substitutes" have just been ingrained into his speech despite his current persona.
I heard he's helping with another Star Fox project called Star Fox Event Horizon. So far it's a very promising Star Fox fan made game. They even got the original voice actress for Krystal involved
I really like how Fox and Wolf are semi-nice to each other but also complete jerks at the same time I like this new take rather than wolf just being an “anti-hero”
@@SharkBeret Well, that's not entirely the case. Wolf is an anti-hero in the post-64 continuity, but that doesn't mean he's entirely loyal to the Cornerian cause, unlike Fox.
Coming back to this hot off the heels of Episode 2, a lot of the connections start to make more sense. Heck, I even got to see some smaller details I didn't quite catch onto before. It truly is amazing how much progress you made.
I have not once ever cared about Star Fox before but this here made me change my opinion entirely on it. Thank you for such an amazing episode. I hope you make more because this was amazing.
You should play some Starfox games, they are really good! Try Starfox 64, or if you have a Gamecube, try Assualt! If you have a Wii-U you could buy Starfox Zero. Also, if you have a Switch, you can buy the game Starlink:Battle for Atlas, which actually features the Starfox crew as playable characters in the game and they are even part of the story as well!
The ...".wait should I hang myself?" Still kills me. I adore this so much. Years of watching it over and over again filling a hole in my life tht this show fills.
I can't get over the unique style of this animated series. It's like ... There's nothing to describe it. It's retro for sure as hell, but it's got that sci-fi attribute to it that's visible in the artstyle itself rather than the plotline. I think it's most comparable to something like how we recreate old style things with modern tech today, but just ...translate that process into the future. It's so awesome dude.
If this does ultimately get taken down coz of copyright, I hope that someday Matthew Gafford could pull a "Rick and Morty" and turn this parody into an original IP and pitch it to a network. This is honestly more entertaining than most shows on TV right now, animated or otherwise.
+TheHammar117 I would honestly enjoy a podcast/radio-style story if Nintendo does rain hell-fire on this video/series. While the animation is only peaked by my rose-tinted nostalgia, I thoroughly enjoy the voices and audio.
+Giancarlo Rosato He doesn't feel like he's got the setup right now to do the idea justice. He's working on AFIS right now. If he got an animation team that he could delegate work to, he may start working on it, but it's not currently more than an "Eventually" as far as I know.
+TheHammar117 It stinks because unfortunately, unless he changed the names of all the characters, he wouldn't ever be able to pitch it to a network or publisher. They wouldn't pick it up due to claiming issues. He's having a hard enough time just keeping Nintendo away from it as a freelance project (they've already called him out once before release). It's a tough thing, but at least his fans are supporting him through this. It would be just awesome tho if one of these big corporate companies like Nintendo could see that Non-Union talents like Matt, and people like myself HAVE talent, and could support their brand, even IF we don't directly work for'em. It would be nice to see these huge companies actually recognize & stand by smaller talent for a change, and support us.. heck, most of us are fueled more on passion than money, where as the business that THEY currently have with actors and artists, are fueled by money, and thus the material put out is lack luster... the same shit pumped out again and again. One day, companies will realize the benefit of non-union indie talent.. I hope to be there to see it happen.
+TheHammar117 They already slapped him with a C&D when he was calling it "Star Fox: The Animated Series" but since they've already had that discussion and it's apparently acceptable under its new title, it should be safe. Unless they suddenly change their minds.
I can’t believe I just found this. I’ve always love Star Fox and craved a more in depth look into that universe. This is a surreal treat for me. And the production value - just... wow. Rarely do projects of this budget have such amazing talent all throughout. Writing, acting, presentation, editing, mise en scène - it’s all there. I can’t wait to donate to you. Thank you.
Flucksy Bango maybe a possibly a teeny tiny bit but the creator knows his shit man. He posted some great influences on his Twitter.... great films from the 70s-80s 90s
@@ernestoflores4116 A 2nd episode got released which is basically a prequel to this episode and Wolf utters that exact same line to Fox when he was a kid.
@@1andonlyzara Well from what I remember, Fox's sfx from the original game made him sound a little nasaly, and Falco did have a deeper tone than the rest of them, Peppy had the highest sounding octave, maybe with a bit of a twang, and Slippy had a deeper, hiccupy "toad" sound to his voice. If you ask me, they line up pretty well.
@@1andonlyzara Well, keep in mind, they didn’t have full voice acting lines in the SNES version, instead they had Banjo Kazooie esc grunts and sounds. The full voice acting didn’t show up till Star Fox 64. In the SNES game, Falco had the deepest voice.
I love how 70s or 80s this feels. The voices for the characters are great! No high pitch annoying voices to mimic animals or some other annoying sounds. Just people talking normally.
@@3SCAPER00M13 Also probably inspired by the gibberish voices from the SNES games, at least in terms of registers (hence why Falco has such a deep voice, for instance).
I am waaaay late to the party, but I love this animation so much, and i've never even played through a single star fox game. Also I love how Andross is an actual animal instead of a floating head and hands, but he wears a full suit with only his head and hands really visible and pop out visually.
My friends and I were chilling together after work, watching a bunch of animated video game shorts on autoplay. This came on and we literally stopped what we were doing and were captivated by it. I have never played a lick of Star Fox, but the art direction, and the audio engineering, and the voice acting are such a labor of love and the storyline is so rich- it feels like like a SciFi Crime Drama you catch on Adult Swim to stay up past midnight watching, it got me that invested. This is a real piece of art! (also gonna comment on the 2nd video too!)
I love how Wolf peels his nose bandage off, slaps it on Fox's back and is visible throughout the rest of the episode. Great little addition. 7:40, 8:45 and 10:15 for those interested.
+Lord Grief Mc. Scumbag the dude is a double agent. thats why he left the clothes on the other planet and wants to keep fox alive... Im calling it here Wolf is a spy for the good guys
Andrew Marlowe As evidence of the abduction? Pretty sure the shot up Arwing is enough evidence of that. I'm pretty sure Wolf just threw out his clothes so Fox would be forced to walk around without shoes as payback for shooting him down.
Andrew Marlowe Wouldn't be the first. From listening to his streams there's a high probability of Wolf helping Fox in future episodes, right now though he's just a mercenary who's lost a ton of money to Fox and his buddies.
Actually they already tried to shut it down. I think it was before the first episode was done they had a problem with it being called Star Fox the animated series. Hence why the show is called a fox in space.
This was in my recommendations for the longest and I never clicked it because it didn’t catch my interest. I decided to watch it today and am I glad I did. I was not expecting this and I absolutely love it. The voice acting, humor, production and animation are all perfect and set the mood of it. I see it was created 2 years ago and I hope the second episode is released soon. You’ve just gained a fan and a supporter.
I've watched this one episode too many times to even count. The care and effort put into every part of this is just incredible! Just the dialogue and animation, so much character in every scene! I'm just in awe of this. This much raw dedication should be seriously commended. Bravo sir, bravo.

Let's not forget that Slippy stutters in his speech, also like in the original SNES game.
Is there a episode 2 coming out?
Alex Natalino yeah but no confirmed date
@@alexnatalino5176 Yeah, he uploads small clips of episode 2 on this channel.
This also explains how and why wolf would be willing to work together
The “Your biggest fan” line has a different meaning now that Episode 2 is out. Poor Fara…
I was about to say: that was so well put together, the look on Fox's face like... you...
After watching episode 2, there’s no way that it wasn’t merely a joke line and not something with a deeper meaning.

Preach.

These are the best voice actors you could have possibly gotten on this project. The exchange in dialogue between the other Star Fox members, as well as between Fox and Wolf are the most well-written and well-executed lines I've seen in a long time. Good work.
Mayyro The animator actually voices both Fox and Wolf. He's incredibly talented.
Mayyro what about Falco's ?
He voices if I'm correct
Fox, wolf, Falco, Peppy, James (not shown yet), that guy in the red shirt, leon, those goons in the bar (not the white hair one), and Andros

Idk. It kinda irritates me how Falco sounds like Rocky Balboa.
I think it oddly fits him. At least, this rendition of him.

Also, I very much appreciate that three of the four Star Fox members voices sound like their SNES "talk-sounds". (The one being Peppy, because he really does have to sound like an older guy with a bit of a southern accent)
Star Fox actually has, unlike most Nintendo games, a good continuity. The games are pretty consistent throughout the series.

I love how Wolf in this series is characterised as kind of a loser thug who's in way over his head.

If this wasn't uploaded 6yrs ago, I would have sworn this was some AI Chatbot shit that was edited to be awesome.
Damn all these references to the original games, god i need to play them
good catch!
Jfc this is so incredibly dense.
Same with Fox using "Geez"
It's possible Wolf was just raised in an environment that didn't allow for swearing, and so the "substitutes" have just been ingrained into his speech despite his current persona.

+TheHammar117 I doubt Nintendo would let that fly. Unfortunately.

I see it was created 2 years ago and I hope the second episode is released soon. You’ve just gained a fan and a supporter.
Should be out any week now actually.
*month now
You took the words right out of my mouth. I feel the exact same way
I've watched this one episode too many times to even count. The care and effort put into every part of this is just incredible! Just the dialogue and animation, so much character in every scene! I'm just in awe of this. This much raw dedication should be seriously commended. Bravo sir, bravo.
7:36 I love the detail of Wolf peeling off his bandaid and slapping it on Fox’s back and it just stays there the whole episode
