കേംബ്രിഡ്ജ് യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയില്‍ പഠിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ പരിചയപ്പെട്ട സ്‌പെയിന്‍ സ്വദേശിനി വെറോണിക്ക കാര്‍ടെല്ലിയാണ് രാഹുല്‍ഗാന്ധിയുടെ ആദ്യകാമുകി. പത്ത് വര്‍ഷത്തോളം ഇവരുടെ ബന്ധം നീണ്ടു. രാഹുലിനൊപ്പം നിരവധി പൊതുവേദികള്‍ പങ്കിട്ട വെറോണിക്ക ഇപ്പോള്‍ സ്‌പെയിനില്‍ ആര്‍ക്കിടെക്റ്റാണ്. രണ്ടാമത് രാഹുലിന്റെ കാമുകിയായത് അഫ്ഗാന്‍ രാജകുമാരി നോയല്‍സെഹര്‍ ആയിരുന്നു. 1933 മുതല്‍ 1977 വരെ അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാന്‍ ഭരിച്ച മുഹമ്മദ് സാഹിര്‍ ഷായുടെ കൊച്ചുമകളാണ് നോയല്‍സെഹര്‍. നോയലിനെ പിന്നീട് ഈജിപ്റ്റ രാജാവായ മുഹമ്മദ് വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചു
