There should be a Japanese bike shop in the United States! These products are of very good quality and we always use the bicycles for exercise or shopping 😍
I love the subtitles and when you speak Japanese it helps me learn phrases and reminds me on how to say things I may have forgotten ! Thanks keep it up :)
Glad to hear you like them :) I stopped doing them for a while because they take a lot of extra time, but I'm going to try and add them moving forward. Thuong also is happy when I add them since it helps her understand my English.
You guys made the right choice between the 9990 and the other one that costs twice. Unless a handle bar costs the same as the bike you chose, I'm sure you can surprise her coming home with a brand new handle bar that she does like! It's relaxing watching your vlog. Pls make more 😁
Thanks! Planning to make another video about tips and things to look for while buying a mama chari :) I was planning to get her a separate handlebar, but she's adapted to it now, so no need anymore.
10/10 What a great vehicle to own and buy. It does not require fuel to run, easily fun to maneuver and store due to its compact size. Narrow streets are no longer a problem for you. The headlights do not even require an expensive battery too. Looks much simpler and easy to maintain. Perfect to deal with rising gas prices! No need for worrying about narrow parking spaces again. Truly a reasonable choice to face energy crisis and climate change. An idling mamachari emits zero emission at all! Ah, I forget to mention on how this vehicle can keep you cool while riding despite the lack of AC - it lets breeze directly upon the rider. Another thing I would love from mamachari is easy customization on how it looks and available in various paintjobs - ranging from cherry blossom pink or robust army green/desert tan for those adventurous guys who would like to go off-road with it (try it!). Eh, why would suburban moms get an oversized, overpriced gas-guzzling SUV/minivan when this vehicle can also even fit two kids riding along with you. Definitely recommend the mamachari over any car brands. REV UP YOUR PEDALS!
Got a great deal on my bike too, was a close out. And didnt care for the handlebars aswell. And was the first thing changed when got home, but now years later, with all the updates the frame is about the only thing left 👍
Home centers in Japan have many cool, inexpensive. bikes. If you visit Tokyo - even if only for a couple of weeks - buy a cheap bike instead of renting a car, buying train passes, or taking taxis, and when you leave, just give the bike to someone (along with the receipt).
Definitely agree. Way better experience to see the city by bike, and way more affordable if over a decent amount of time. There are also plenty of bicycle rental shops as well for shorter time periods.
The curved bars are better for a mama-chari. It allows a more comfortable upright posture. These bikes aren't made for aerodynamics or speed. They're made for cruising and hauling in comfort.
Catching up on your older videos I missed. Recent to your channel. I am amazed at the price of Thuong's Mamachari bike. The quality of it looks very good. $100, wow!! Try and find something like that in the US for $100. Kinda doubt it. Mahalo!
You said the 2nd stop was like Home Depot back in u.s. you're almost right. While home depot (well, the few I have been to) do not stock any bicycles or accessories, you can buy on their website and pick up or get delivered to your house.
It’s hard to buy a second hand mamachari in the country - I tried when my brother and I rode mamachari bikes around Mount Fuji (video on my channel). We ended up hiring one instead.
actually it's really easy. People post used mama chari's for sale almost every day near where I live, but you're better off buying new most of the time since people do not take care of these bikes and they're usually left in the rain to collect rust.
Hi! Where do you suggest to buy mama-chari parts? Brake sets, hubs, skirts. I have surplus Bridgestone Beaute here in the Philippines and I wish to buy brand new ones from Japan (i know someone there).
Idk. maybe just swap the handlebars afterwards lol. It's not that hard. Currently here in the ph mama chari users prefer those sweeper style handle bars. We call the "champione" handle bars. Builders such a s myself swap stock handlebars to campione ones, stylish and more comfortable to use :) Good luck though keep it up. (Imma be watching ur old vids) :)
Sorry if it was already asked, but what is the name of that wal-mart style store you bought the bike at? I just moved to Tokyo and I definitely need a bike. I'm in Matsubara Setagaya-ku if you happened to know a store closer to me if that one isn't. Thanks in advance!
You said it's like Home Depot, but it looks more like a Walmart department store since it has diapers, groceries, etc. (Unless you were talking about a different store. I might have gotten them mixed up).
It's Japanese version of the Chinese flying pigeon only much better quality. I would say dutch bike. But, this is lighter weight. I do own a Gaezelle which would be the last bike you'd want in Japan. It's too heavy to carry up and down stairs.
YOU HAVE A BUTTON FOR STAFF? -_- we so need this in Canada. Here you have to walk around forever looking for someone who works there and even when you do they say they do not work in the area and you have to find the person who does but there is no way of knowing so you just ask everyone, ITS HELL
Talking about bike registration, is it a big deal bringing your own bicycle to Japan if one is a bicycle tourist? Any sort of temporary registration? I know being a tourist, I may not be questioned but I can see where there could be a misunderstanding.
I've not heard of any bicycle registration for tourists, so I don't think you need anything like that. Just make sure you are able to prove ownership of the bicycle (receipt or pictures of the bike before coming to Japan). Police will only really check your bike registration out of the city if you are in an accident.. I've ridden thousands of miles here and haven't been stopped once..
Okay thanks! I'd like to go in the fall if things work out. Hopefully before the 2020 Olympics start causing a commotion of things. Love the vids keep it up and stay safe Congrats on the marriage too!
Thanks! Tourism has been rapidly increasing in the last few years, and that will likely continue until the Olympics. Fortunately, most people only go to the main tourist spots, so there's still plenty of less popular places which are still beautiful to visit.
I’m going to buy my first bicycle very soon in japan and I was thinking to take one at around ¥10,000 too But being that cheap, will it be durable for long time ? Or will it asks for too much repaires ?
When I compared the 10,000 yen bikes to the 25,000 yen bikes, I found no differences in the quality of the core parts. Single speeds are also much more durable than geared bikes, so I single speed 10,000 yen bike will last quite a while ;)
I like the bike she bought and with gears for only $100. I bought one used for $50 here in Dubai surplus from china but the dealers said japan (i don’t think so) seems the bike is more than 10 y/o bike. I removed the stand and mud guards then brought to shop to change tires and tube plus lubricants.... lastly I change the crank and chain ring (47) then am riding with group or road bikers..they all laughing because I can tail them up to 40km/h. I was surprised too. Now my road and mountain bikes are resting. Sell her bike to me, am serious.
Can i buy it for my personal use and have a facility for shipping from Japan to India please give me some advise and thank you for beautiful video please give us more information

That looks awesome! we actually didn't cycle much while we were there, but we did cycle to Hoi An from Da Nang on cheap rental bikes. Then I got food poisoning and we had to cycle back haha. We didn't go to Hai Van pass, but we did rent a scooter and ride around the Tho Quang peninsula. Some parts were incredibly steep and our scooter barely made it up. Yep, the new bike looks "cute" and good for shopping. Congrats on another nice video and buying the new bike.
Thanks man! This bike is still going strong :)
Looks very nice and humble. Unlike modern cars which look too bulky and boring somehow.

Agreed!
For me I lile crescent bars it is very comfortable like having vintage cruiser feels

Japan always produce very good quality product. More expensive but the quality is best.
Nice magic powers in the beginning there!
ASMR Sounds of Japan yeah that was cute
She did a excellent job filming on her own! Hope the bike suits her well :)
I thought so too and am pretty proud :) Was an exciting surprise when I went to edit.
She loves the new bike, thanks!
Great bike for the $, you would be hard pressed to find a bike that functional at Walmart for that price....
And it's still riding strong now
@@TwoWheelCruise If it's Japan-made, it's made to last.

Indeed she did. She's already saying she wants a nicer road bike haha ^^;;
Funny because I changed the bars on my grocery getter to the kind that are on her bike. Maybe she will grow to like them.

Anyone know a store or is willing to ship a mamachari to California?
I own one I brought back from japan many years ago by cargo ship.
I have me my Road bike but it's in my home country. If I were to bring it in Japan, how to register it?
Thanks
Try asking your local bike shop

Omafiets in Dutch. Grandma bike. :)
Hi, can kindly advice if there's any website that i can order a Mamachari bicycle and have it delivered/shipped to Singapore? Thanks
you can order a flat UD carbon bar from airexpress under $20. just stay away from 3k handlebars, they are significantly weaker than UD bars.
Thanks for the tip!

What's with registration on the bike? Is this mandatory?
For mamachari bikes, they will usually force you to do it when you buy it. For high end bikes, most people don't
Will you/can you change handle bars for her??? As aways Thanks!
Can I, yes. Will I, no. She got used to them after a day and no problems since.

Hey, where’s the helmet? :-). Why does one get in trouble with the police with bike registration? Thanks.
I don't usually use a helmet when I go shopping within a close radius of my home since I usually take the sidewalk the whole way there and go at a slow speed. Also, almost nobody in Japan who uses these mama-chari's wear a helmet while riding. It's a bad excuse I know, and I'll try to fix this habit..
As for the bike registration, all bikes in Japan need to be registered. If the police stop you (which is common for foreigners), they will check that your bike is registered to you. If it's not, you could get in trouble. The system is in place because of high bike theft, which is a pretty big problem here.
Registration should be mandatory here, given we are # 1 Canadian city for stolen bikes at 3K+/year. But, it was down 30% last year since a new registration app, called "Project 529
Garage" was being promoted by police and bike groups etc. You should visit the annual police recovery sale. Just hundreds of un-registered bikes. See Able Auctions link for info.www.ableauctions.ca/auction?aAuctionId=b7d48964-a451-4d36-a5f4-b114b9929713
