Hello Dr. Chai, I was put on xiidra before my Ipl sessions, and now I have retinal Tufts in both eyes, have you had any patients complaining of retinal Tufts while on xiidra, already ordered my hanuka drops as a substitute.
Hi dr!I want to know what is a flare up? Why is different from normal dry eye symptoms? What triggers them? How long they last? If someone have really bad dry eye symptoms does it mean that person lives in a constant flare up? Thank you i'm trying to understand this desease .
Hi there! Flare up can be looked at in a couple ways - most relevant is that the patient starts to experience worsening of their symptoms. I would typically also see changes in tissue structure as well. I wouldn’t say this is different but more so it causes the symptoms of dry eye. I am a firm believer that the ultimate cause of dry eye is chronic inflammation and with this inflammation it can cause the rest of what can cause the dry eye symptoms. To answer your last two questions, you are right. Once someone has dry eye, that person will always have dry eye. What we do as eye doctors is to control and manage it as best as possible. It’s like if someone has diabetes - will always have it and the changes in lifestyle or medication is “forever” A lot of times we are able to manage it quite well with the team work and compliance between doctor and patient where it may seem like nothing is wrong at all! But understand that there will be good days and there will be bad days. I hope that answers your question? Let me know :)
