- Soundcloud is DEAD. Use THIS Instead.
Back in its heyday Soundcloud was a website built around music. It encouraged users to share tracks, join groups and build communities.
Nowadays it is a shadow of it's former self.
Luckily there is an alternative out there that does pretty much everything old Soundcloud used to and more.

Gotta disagree. As a DJ 99% of us STILL actively scroll through Soundcloud for hours finding new underground tracks.
As much as people want to think Soundcloud is dead, its only dead for specific genres.
For example - Dubstep, Riddim, Dnb and other bass heavy genres are still getting big numbers and engagement on SC.
Slaps is AWESOME, but has a loooong way to go in terms of its userbase.
For example the Dariacore and Hyperflip craze that just happened on Soundcloud - those artists were getting upwards of 10K consistently on tunes that were VERY niche.
its dead for bedroom rock. My song hardly get any plays. on TH-cam I get more plays.
I've been trying to find info on if Soundcloud uses users submits to feed AI learning.
Well, that’s six minutes and 19 seconds of my life that I’ll never get back. This was just an ad read. What about the obvious problems of people commenting nonsense just so they can post another track. "Bro, your track is sick!” 200 comments like that, but only 10 plays. So someone posts a lot so that he can upload a track and then the company says to prospective advertisers look how active our users are. Our advertising rates are going to be a bargain when we start selling space. You know it’s gonna happen. Either that or they’re going to take a percentage of any money you can make through their site. I hate to be such a pessimist, but you can only watch your fellow musicians get screwed over so many times before you start looking for all the ways they can do it.
@ScreamieBirds Completely understandable, but Slaps is free to join.
The same as the repost Exchange scam where I have been for the last five years and all we do as artists is running stupid circles with no end.
Commenting on music we don't like just in exchange for the same lie from other artists is already proven to not work for the organic growth of an artist. In five years I have obtained about 1500 followers of which 1450 are simply other artists who only followed me so I would do the same and only a fool would consider this a good way to get organic growth as an artist.
The same happens with most of the fake likes and reposts from these people that all they really want is that we do the same with their music.
This is sick and very frustrating.😢😢
that sounds abysmal.
SoundCloud people always trick me...I only have 260 or so followers but a ton of follows on other artists so people target me by following me, waiting for the followback and then they unfollow me
Lol I grew 400 followers in 2 months and there are like 40% that don't use re ex, making good music is a part too i guess
It's a way to finesse Repost Exchange to the point where the algorithm will tap in. I'm surprised a lot of people haven't figured it out.
Well said!
Got that right, Patrick! It doesn't look or sound at all like it used to.
It's not "ad filled" you are able to remove the ads yourself by disagreeing to the privacy options.
The GarageBand Guide, Subscribed because your videos always make me smile!
Good stuff. I started out on SoundCloud a few years ago and it was great, but things have changed. I just recently heard Laufey say in a recent interview that Distrokid was very helpful to her when she was starting out in the music scene - who knew?
Honesty I’ve only ever used SoundCloud as a platform to upload my own demos to listen to privately on various devices. Plus I can share a song mix with selected people & control the ‘sharing’ & delete the track whenever I please. I’ve never used SoundCloud as anything else. Maybe I’m missing out but it has worked for me.
Personally, I’d say this site looks good, but I highly doubt an artist can make it just by uploading their songs to it especially if they make conscious hip-hop ... the one genre that’s known for never going mainstream.
Man... You could start a whole podcast based on that last sentence.... LOL So much to talk about and unpack!
@@aoterou I prefer conscious hip-hop. It all comes down to personal preference. In general, underground hip-hop doesn’t make it unfortunately. It’s just low vibrational output that goes mainstream.
@@talonkarrde2578 Conscious hip-hop, which focuses on socially and politically conscious themes, often struggles to achieve mainstream success for a few reasons. One factor is that the music industry tends to prioritize commercial viability and popularity over messages that challenge the status quo or tackle complex social issues. Conscious hip-hop often tackles sensitive topics and encourages critical thinking, which may not necessarily generate mass appeal. Moreover, conscious hip-hop can be seen as a deviation from the mainstream's preference for catchy hooks, repetitive melodies, and simpler, more superficial lyrical content. The introspective and thought-provoking nature of conscious hip-hop may require more effort on the part of the listener to fully appreciate and digest the messages conveyed. Starting a podcast about conscious hip-hop could be an interesting endeavour!
"the one genre that is known for not going mainstream" what the actual fuck r u talking about, that's not only false but entirely opposite to reality. tupac? immortal technique? eminem? kedrick lamar? mf doom? "conscious" rappers are the most psuedo humble, pseudo woke people and you're just another example
Concious hip-hop was kind of mainstream back in 90's specially in NY and underground scene was rising. Lot of good things happened those days without soundcloud or any mainstream platform. It was unique and real.
Slaps...It just... Slaps, mate ! Awesome place to share music.
Thanks 🙏 just what I was thinking about and it popped up this morning 🎉
Is the intent genuinely to foster community, coz it sounds to me a lot like a cynical way to keep users locked into endless hours of using their platform in order to profit by some method or another, either now or in the future? Explicitly dangling perceived rewards to the most addicted users. Just playing devil’s advocate, because my first thought (perhaps too pessimistic?) is that the central premise feels more about a ‘gaming the system’ doomscrollish exercise in futility than about any organic form of spreading and promoting quality art.
HI Patrick. It is not clear from this video what the relationship is between Distro Kid and Slaps. What is the relationship?. Also, does Slaps need a DistroKid subscription or if not are DistroKid subscribers treated more favourably on Slaps?
What about RCS? Soundcloud has a contract with GEMA, but, on the other hand, the worst support ever, - actually : none
Garage Band music on a 2004 looking website nice. Definitely better than Soundcloud
Hardly, but go off.
What if I just want to be a listener first. Can I do that without a paid sub?
Yeah, you don’t need to be signed up to listen and search for tracks. If you do want to make an account it’s 100% free to do so, you don’t need a DistroKid subscription.
Should probably take a look at this. Cant even upload on Soundcloud atm because every one of my original track uploads gets flagged for copyright issues on random 100 play beats..
Does the algorithm trigger if you use GarageBand loops/tracks like sound cloud…
Fostering community is always a good idea but incentivising comments will most likely result in a lot of superficial interactions, basically a whole lot of people blowing a whole lot of smoke up a whole lot of arse.
I just had a quick look and a lot of the comments were one word like, sick, or go, or cool vibes… And a whole lot of, follow me too! But there were some genuine comments which is nice, it's always helpful to get some positive feedback. But after about five songs it doesn't let you listen to any more unless you sign up. It says sign up, it's free! But it's not, you have to select a plan.
Slaps seem kinda dead. Most tunes have 2-3 plays or 0.
Hmmm....kind of a screwy scheme for being eligible to upload music.
How so?
@@TheGaragebandGuide I don't understand the rationale. Why should listening to other people's music determine how much or when I can post my own?
@@GaryR55it encourages community and artists supporting artists. Not sure how I feel about it but I get the idea and it has potential to be cool. Nit sure what you’re not getting though.
@@HotStrange Yes, I understand the intent is to foster community among artists, but how does telling artists they cannot upload their music until they have met some arbitrarily established obligation to acheive this goal? This is the only music uploading site I have ever heard of where that is the practice. If I want to upload to Spotify, no such limits exist. If I want to upload a music video to TH-cam, no such limits exist, either. Clear enough, now? Another thing: this rule of theirs only engenders people engaging in phony praise of each other's music just to be able to upload their own.
@@GaryR55 like I said, I’m not saying I agree I’m just saying what it is. The difference with the other platforms though, is this specifically sets out to do what the other platforms don’t. So no sense in comparing them really. It’s the only platform doing what it’s doing - I think - so there’s nothing to really compare it to. I agree with your last point though. Surely it will lead to a bunch of empty, vapid/meaningless comments. I find communities on SoundCloud sorta pop up naturally. Seems like adding a more social environment without the added work and comment limitations would’ve been a better route.
What is the site name?
So another site where artists do nothing but spam their links? No thanks.
Nice job, Patrick.
wondering what the best service is for 5.1 or atmos surround with windows 10
wait you have to pay for this ? we just need a free site ad or bot free for music independent music artist
No, it’s completely free.
ok cool when you said uses your distro kid account i got confused you meant for name only @@TheGaragebandGuide
@@TheGaragebandGuide hi there thanks for all your great content, can you explain how slaps is completely free? I had a quick look and it only let me listen to five songs before it asked me to sign up. I started to sign up then got to the page where it asks you to select a plan, there is no other option but to select a plan. So you have to pay when you sign up. Or am I mistaken?
I dont see this in the Play store!?? Is it not on Android???
soundcloud my home I can't switch
WHO ARE YA WHO ARE YA WHO ARE YA
soundcloud rules bro!
What a shill video, Distrokid was terrible when I used it a couple years ago
I clearly say that they sponsored the video.
In what way were they trash and who do you use instead?
do,do,dooo, doooooo,do,do,dooo, doooo,do,do,dooo, dooooo over and over again. It's like spoken hypnosis and it's off-putting.
Merry Christmas to you too.
Totally useless video which has the facts wrong 😂😂😂
Sorry you feel that way 🤷♂️
