Have you tried the second custom swift smash? The long range slash can be launched before you have to counter so you can stack them. I only tried it a bit but its realy satisfying when it works. You can also get a pretty nice rotation going in the dps check since you can attack from the walls spawn range to counter. On the final phase you can also tag multiple balls for quick revoke build up. I did worse with it on, the 20% potency lost is massive. But I think theres a case to be made with some experience.
Type 2 does have some benefits but it requires 100% proficiency to do well with it. Not only are the negatives harsh but it also builds resources more slowly from raw values. So if you start falling behind it starts to snowball. It is great for multiple targets and that's likely what it should stick to.
The fact that this DF is a "copy" of the starless one yet is way cooler and looks way better amazes me honestly. I'm pretty sure that the starless weren't planned till recently because this DF has nothing to do with the starless one
Surprised you aren't precasting or even charging spells while waiting for the punches. The delayed hits nature of Light means you can let those hit while you do counter as normal.
Also if your position and timing is good so can pre charge swift smash instead of pre casting grants not sure on the mathematical differential though pre charge swift dps wise should win out outside of specific timing.
