This guy's world building with such small amounts of text is unmatched, somehow he set such a tone in la handful of sentences, kind of brilliant honestly.

Honestly, this is one of the only "jpeg jumpscares" I've seen that actually kinda worked, at least MUCH better than jpeg jumpscares typically do. It wasn't *completely* out of nowhere (there was buildup and such and you knew that something was there and was after you) and the picture blended with the lighting and the splash effect well enough that it didn't look AS terrible/cheap/lame as still picture jpeg jumpscares usually do.

It's actually almost silly to think it's *not* when considering that even games like Shovel Knight function in a fully 3D environment. But yeah, you're actually moving around on the map, it's just not generated as you'd think and what you see on the camera is based on location data iirc. Fun little easter egg, you can go see a lot of interesting stuff in the game files, but the dev literally put in a folder with the stuff people would normally datamine for, and included a game he made when he (and his brother if I read that text file correctly) made called Spin&Shoot or something along those lines. It's just a twin stick, one screen arena shooter with basic shapes for enemies, but it's honestly kinda fun
I think people are too anti-jumpscare at times. Sure, they're often used poorly, but not all horror needs to end entirely unresolved. The way this one was timed was pretty good too.
People seem to forget it's honestly an ancient art, and it works so well with cosmic horrors, only adding to the theme of how tiny your life really is in that ocean.
Is Vinny just completely impervious to jump scares? I don't think I've ever heard him be scared by one, it's usually either no reaction, laughter, or "Fuck You."
Honestly, even if it added nothing to the story, it would be cool to get some free update DLC just playing the other convicts in the first 3 blood oceans, even if just to look at some new obscure artifacts and remains. Or even a short campaign add-on where someone is sent to scavenge for the remains of your ship.
One where you are in a bulky diving suit styled like the old ones would be awesome. Slowly moving on a silty sea floor with limited visibility would be awesome. I loved Subnautica's prawn suit in the deep ocean, so a horror game like that would be awesome.

We're Eden one of the last self sustaining stations launches a attack on a space station witch leads to a fight with collection of space stations and space ships. The dev has done action games in the past aperently so it's possible.

An average submarine is supposed to be made entirely of titanium, his sub only had titanium in certain areas. The whole thing was super sketchy, people started comparing it to Iron Lung because you had to be bolted in to go at titanic depth. The only good thing about this whole situation is that the passengers died quickly, due to the ENTIRE hull giving way. The force was equal to an explosion.
I always love when Vinny talks about TOS Trek with such fondness/warmth, he's so right about Nimoy making Spock into something larger than the arena / show he was in - a really nuanced and emotive performance even with so little (and often surrounded by much silliness) original Trek is campy but has a big heart and bold ideas/empathy. Also appreciated the Sisko shout out he truly is under valued as a captain /actor - DS9 is the bessssst, truly got the balance right of darker Trek themes (critiquing the federation) but also great characterisation and world building and a heap of silliness (Dukat also maybe one of the greatest Trek villains of all time? not to mention the oiliness of Garak)
47:22 A Duke Nukem movie can definitely work! An ultraviolent cheesy film about an overconfident quippy man slaughtering invading aliens in many creative fashions. I mean, Deadpool was an absolute success, so why not Douk Nouk Em?
It just needs a director that knows how to pull that off. It needs to flirt with cringe without truly becoming cringe, a delicate balance. Sam Raimi might be able to.

The game probably goes a little too long in my opinion, but the build up is great, even better than the pay off if you ask me, really gives you a sense of dread and some claustrophobia
@@sanictheedgehog not really a complain, is not like the game offended me or anything, but I think an hour is a long time when the gameplay is pressing two buttons without much happening on the screen, again, I think there's a good build up with the deterioration of the ship and the background noises but I believe this could be shorter, or have another task to keep the interest, just my opinion
I actually really enjoyed the immersion of this game! It genuinely made me feel unsettled and anxious. I love games that can bring out things like that. Can't forget the Sea Penis and Beef Creature, thanks to that chat member for bringing a new term to us all! 😏😂 This was an interesting experience, thank you Vin for sharing it with us.
Vinny I recommend trying out selaco, it's a really impressive game based off the GZdoom engine and I think youd like it The demo dropped today and it's been really awesome
@@gorway6807 was it? Running on a 2014 laptop it ran mostly fine for me besides a few hiccups with the water, and loading transitions. I'd say overall trepang2 was the better demo, but in selaco you can pet a roomba and I think that deserves a look through

I meant things like bad hit boxes and level geometry, the fact that you can’t see enemies at all (the devs already said they are redesigning the enemies), the over reliance on peeking a single corner to funnel enemies, it’s just got some issues still.

Imagine if you could get out of the submarine in this game to explore on foot in dry littorals, or caves under the ocean that aren’t filled with water, that’d be awesome.
My only question is, if all the stars have disappeared, then how is the blood ocean staying liquid? On a cosmic scale, there’s a very narrow range of temperatures at which blood could be liquid.

Still, I was just sort of under the impression that some games would be too... well obscure simply isn't the right word, for many reasons... uh, more like it just surprises me that what I perceive as two different worlds have started to merge to an somewhat uncanny degree.
What I can't explain is how and why I for some reason have been considering them separate. It's whatever, I'm just rambling out loud.
Trends are trends are trends. Especially when enforced by an algorithm that takes popular things and tries to make them more popular. More people see it, more people spread it, more people play it, more people see it, and so on.
