I’ll never really understand the G1 obsession outside of collective nostalgia, but that puppet is OBJECTIVELY cool. I love when intense labor projects come out EXACTLY how the designer wanted! I hope there’s a piece of this thing in a warehouse somewhere but it’s probably long gone
There’s an ad for Transformers 2010 (the Japanese version of G1 S3, I think) where a group of helicopters lift a dead Prime as a crowd chant “CONVOY!!!” I think that ad may be the first live-action appearance of G1 Prime, predating this show. That ad fascinates me more than any ad for the franchise, past or present.
That commercial was apparently produced by Tsuburaya Productions, best known for the Ultraman series - essentially, a short involving the military carrying an exploding robot corpse through a miniature city is right up their alley.
That really was the attitude back then. as Immortalized by DemonTomatoDave: _There is a robot made of spoons, spurned by fanboys, nerds, and goons. G1ers love their old cartoons..._ I liked most of them but I think the faces needed another pass, especially Optimus.
I remember watching Season 5, although I was not aware that it was known as Season 5. Yes, I did watch the show when Tommy was there hanging out with Optimus Prime as Prime would tell him the stories of each episode, and thinking how cool it would be to have Optimus Prime telling you his experiences battling Megatron and the Decepticons. As a matter of fact, Season 5 was the time I had seen THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE for the first time as a 5 part episode, where each episode would be as a to be continued, like the first episode ended with Megatron saying, “Their defenses are broken. Let the slaughter begin!”, and the second ending with Cliffjumper saying, “Jazz, we’re not getting away!”, and so on and so forth. But yeah, I do remember watching Season 5 with those cool intros.
Wow never knew about that giant Prime before, fascinating. I especially loved seeing the inner workings of the puppet. Thanks for showing that to us. Keep up the good work dude. I think what keeps your videos entertaining is your down to earth perspective. I'll watch a PrimeVsPrime video and, while its informative, the guy comes off as a bit of a robot himself. Your approach to content just feels more personal and it connects with viewers easier I think. One of my favorite videos was the one where you and your friends went to a bunch of stores looking for a Concept Megatron. It was fun because I do that myself like every 1-2 weeks but I'm alone as I don't have anyone my age that's also into hunting Transformers. I'd like more videos like that personally, its got that dopamine hit of "oooh what do you think we'll find today guys?" kinda feel. Anyways love the stuff so far, I rarely skip a video. Keep it up. Happy holidays!
To this day the whereabouts of this Optimus Prime puppet are unknown. Some might say it was kept in a storage facility somewhere, while others say it was completely destroyed. The world may never know...
I think it was stolen by the lizard people to prove the earth is actually not round or flat, but it's actually a cube, but that's just a theory I have heard 🙃
Crazy fact, Jason Jansen almost died on set when he was near the Optimus prime puppet arm for a shot but moved to eat at a table which very soon The arm fell and crash where Jason was standing a few moments ago, it’s insane how Optimus Prime almost killed a kid and Jason would probably never look at Optimus the same afterwards
This was pretty awesome and a marvel of film at the time, you dont see as much effort or creativity being done anymore as everything is animated and live action Not to say it's a bad thing but seeing something like this again would be pretty cool
This was such a sad time for kids like me who wanted the series to continue in the US. It says something that Hasbro wasted money on the puppet instead of new episodes.
I wish that they just made Stop motion and life action for the whole season 5 and it being life action the only difference with the cast before returning
I've seen clips of the G1 Optimus from the so-called Season 5, but not behind the scenes stuff. This is wild. I wonder if that Prime is actually scale. That voice stand-in haha.
Why is Prime Soooooo Big?? His head is as big as a normal semi’s cab. He looks pretty sweet, but that truck transformed would be about the size of a 2 story house. 😂 🚛🏠🤖
I want to say the Michael bay movies are not live fully action because its uses so much CGI so its more accurately a CGI enhanced or CGI assisted live action! Edit: Bumblebee and Frenzy (when they're the puppets) are live action!
it is really, really annoying to me that instead of expanding the definition of 'animation' outside of the first things brainless people think of.. they just expanded the definition of 'live action' so those people wouldn't have to think.
Does anyone know what happened to the Optimus Prime Head puppet and giant hand? Is it in a private collection somewhere? What about the Bumblebee puppet?

I may be partial to the Bayverse bots, but I also love seeing puppeteers at work. They can both be neat.

I liked most of them but I think the faces needed another pass, especially Optimus.
Just remember, there were people who seriously thought this was a better design than what we got in 2007. They wanted THIS on the big screen.
No hate though, it must have been amazing being Tommy Kennedy.
Yes, people like the car robots looking like car robots and not anthropomorphic scrapyards.
It would be INSANE if we got the Bumblebee design from the get-go.
@@FigmentJedi Yes, and it would've been more of an organized design instead.
And I'm one of them, and I grew up with the bayverse, I would've loved it if he looked like that.

For a haphazard clip show season, they put a lot of effort into the Prime puppet

i would love a stop-motion transforms tv show.
A stop motion series about toy should be a no brainer.
It would promote toy lines greatly
This actually so cool. I wish this could be found again im real life

I only caught bits and pieces of "Season 5", most notably the Optimus Prime puppet. Practical Effects > CGI.
