We have really gotten to look forward to these videos, the process and dialogue, and of course the final results! Batch mixing colors in advance is so smart, especially for working on site, because re-mixing colors takes up valuable daylight! That dumb comment from the spectator reminded us of an artist we know. She got a pretty similar remark when working on a mural. People talk to you all day when you're painting on a wall and most are really nice and respectful, but one guy wasn't. Without even looking away from her painting, the artist said, "Thanks, but if that's the sort of thing you want, whether you know it or not, you're not in the market for what I do."

That is awesome to hear! I'm glad the Blick art supply angels are watching over me 😂 Thank you for sharing that story, I feel like it's a common situation artist learn to deal with. If we love our work, it's worth continuing despite the comments.

@@mariasisul Yes, if you're going to paint in public and show your work, you'll grow a pretty thick skin. Most of us on the Blick team are artists ourselves and we all have our own stories like that. We heard another salty remark from an artist we met who said, "I care a lot about people's opinions of my work, especially when it's written on the memo line of a check they're handing me."

I love how you're choosing really interesting subjects to paint, I really need to take more inspiration from urban settings like this because it works so beautifully ❤

Thank you! Definitely try it out, I think there's a lot of opportunity in it, to find something new and make it your own 💛

Those paintings at the beginning, beautiful 👏, about the boat painting dude, it's important but let's first focus on what brings us joy then about selling it so we can make more art, not sales first and if both cross paths then great

Absolutely right, I think my happiness in art will bring success, not the other way around. Thanks for your comment ⭐️ I love the little pieces from the beginning too!

Your sense of composition is really spot on! I really love how that painting with the blue bench turned out, and how you muted the house in the back so that it focuses the eyes on that bench with the weeds growing. We live close to a marina as well; many years ago I took part in my first professional oil painting workshop at that marina, and it was such an inspiring location. Thank you for another great video!

Thank you Kent! Great observations about the piece, those were some of my favorite aspects also. That workshop at the marina sounds cool, and very inspiring!

I love how you compared the marina to a coffee shop. How it is filled with people working and doing their own thing. It's a very interesting and creative way to look at what you are doing everyday. Love it!
Also, I love your bench. When I just saw it, I almost wanted to shout out load...it's the bench! Because I remember seeing it on Instagram and I just loved the blue bench. I totally agree with you - something about it's colour makes be want to stare at it...even sit on it and read a book. I really love it and think it is far better and beautiful than someone's boat🤪
Thank you for sharing how you see the world Maria. Looking forward to the next one.

I think every time I paint I'm getting closer to figuring out what really attracts me to a scene! The vibes at the marina seems to capture it well, especially that particular spot. Glad you agree, that bench will be my imaginary boat, and just as exciting ha!
love your insights as always, best wishes to you. :)

Fantastic Maria! Love your thoughts processes. You sell your work? I'm in Aus, so probably not here? Thanks again for sharing your beautiful art and skill. x Nell.

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video :) I do sell, it's not a priority at the moment, but when opportunities or commissions arise I'm open to them. Maybe in the future I'll release prints, hopefully those would be available for people anywhere.

Very cool Maria, I have basically the same Plein Air easel, this is a very useful inspiration for me. Hope you guys are enjoying your summer, it's going by fast. I think the woman said she might buy from you... That's very cool. Maybe I misheard but I've had that happen before in different ways and it's always the biggest cheer-up. Have a great week

7:30 I don't talk much, don't know if my art does it for me, but specially the music of others, well mainly Bowie, say what I don't or express how I feel etc 🖤👩🏼‍🎤

      @mariasisul  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Totally, we are expressions of the many things we enjoy and find beautiful, we don't have to say much for it to be felt. I'm glad you have a type of music that speaks for you :)

I love hearing your thought processes &seeing the progress. Do you get permission to stand in the marina to paint? In 2 different places I was told : it's private property or it's not safe here. 😢 so I didn't go anymore... but I ❤ boats🤷‍♀️Now it's winter, so I'll wait til next year!

I'm glad you enjoy the thought process 😊 This marina is a public one, with a park and lot of people out for a walk to visit the lighthouse, eat food, etc. The staff and people are very welcoming here. I just setup out of the way. Some marinas are privately owned. I hope you can find one to paint at, it's one of my favorite spaces too.

A little late to the thread, but you might find Valeri Larko’s work interesting since she too seems to favor urban architecture and compositions…
