I never even knew you could do so much with resin! I just saw you at the art retreat. You were on the beach talking about resin and I’m so glad I chose to watch that digest.
BEAUTIFUL! I would LOVE to see u do a dark blue with silver specks and black veins. Like a faux granite. If possible. And maybe a variation of coppers with green blue patina veining. Thank u so much for your great tutorials!
I love that gold. Fantastic job again! Quick question about taping the back of the pieces. I know you say to remove the tape after 3 to 4 hours or so but you should see me trying to figure out how the hell to do that without sticking my finger in the piece. Do you store them up high and just attack from underneath? I've been leaving mine on till it's fully cured and once in awhile when I peel the tape the very bottom edge of the side will rip on me and man that gets my goat!
I think the trick is to have two people. I usually hold the canvas while jeff pulls the tape off (since he puts the tape on - he usually knows where to start and which direction to pull). So if you are doing it alone. Wait till it is tacky set (where you can move it without it shifting the painting and where you can touch the painting without making a permanent indention) and use a heat gun around the tape. This will liquify the resin a bit and make it let go of the tape. You may end up with a few gooey strings but just have a stir stick on hand to scrape those. It’s still easier than waiting till it has set and sanding down the drips.
Have you ever done any rose gold on top of black? I'm curious to see what that would look like. I just did a piece using gold, rose gold and bronze swiped over a pearly white background. I'm also going to add some larger pieces of crushed crystal glass that I finished breaking myself afrer my husband accidentally broke my large thick clear crystal bowl. 😱😳 Gotta turn those lemons into lemonade! 🥤😊
Hey Paula. When we prep the canvases we just use house paint or gesso on the front. We do it to prevent sagging, since there is no risk of air bubbles coming through like with wood, we only prep the top side.
Hi, I'm from Argentina. Excellent and beautiful work! I have a question for you. Which size is your canvas and how do you know how much resin you have to use to cover that canvas? Do you have any formula? I mean, which is the relation between the size of the canvas and the quantity of resine ? Thank you
Hello Natalia! Argentina is so beautiful! There are a number of formulas out there for how much resin to use per your surface area. It all depends on how thick your resin is and how thick you want the coverage. ArtResin has a calculator on their website that we have found helpful when working with countertops and tables but don't really use it when doing a smaller canvas piece - we just eyeball it.
Hey Winifred! We tape the bottom with masking tape and pull it off about three hours after the resin has started to set. It leaves the bottom clean and free of drips
This is beautiful! I was wondering if you could help me out a couple of questions... First if you are using a wood canvas and you want to base coat it would you put the paint on first then polycrylic or opposite? Second i can't seem to find the polycrylic in a matte finish can you suggest another finish in that brand or should it be matte? Thank you:)
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment! When working with wood I would put the poly on first (so it can work its way into the cracks and pinholes) then paint it. But honestly I think it would still be fine if you did it the opposite way. I have base painted wood and forgotten to poly first so I put the poly on after and it still works. You can use a matte or gloss finish - we just prefer the matte. Let me know if you would like an amazon link (we just get ours from Home Depot but amazon probably has it too)
Can I do this tutorial on a black base? I'm decorating my apartment and the colors are black and gold. I would love to make a table using this method, but I wanted to know if I could it on a black base and have black and gold marble.
You sure can. Just paint you table black and put a black resin down first and use gold for the veins. We used a ketchup bottle for more control of the gold lines. Make sure you make the gold opaque. And if the veins lighten up that's not a badd thing it just makes it look more in depth and you can just take the ketchup bottle and go right back over the center of the vain to make it more define and that looks amazing as well
I would like to do my counter tops with a white base and the marble look being emerald green and gold can you tell me what all I would need to do this project
Happy to help. I would use JR emerald, jr titanium, cp old gold and Ra interference oyster - all from artisttilldeath.com. You will also need stir stix, mixing buckets, gloves and many other things. I can do a video tomorrow on a full list.
You can do a floor. Check out Stonecoat Countertops. We haven't done a floor, but Stonecoat has videos up that they have done and we trust them with everything.
@@ArtistTillDeath Yeah, I'll let you know how it goes. I won't be pouring for 2 - 3 weeks. Clear plastic squeeze bottle instead of a stick. I'll post a video when I am done showing the good, bad and the ugly. Did you find that you had to mix some clear epoxy resin with the gold metallic paint in the end? Hopefully it works for me. In any case, I just found that your technique was the best and produced the best results.
We have. We have done a bar top and in that exact color and technique and 7 bar table tops and they are holding up just fine . It will scratch if you cut on it. Resin is water, alcohol and fire resistant up to 500° We have a video of all those i mentioned. Thank you for watching
We just used Metallic Gold from Rustoleum. We have some amazing Gold pigments on our website you can use. And we do not use that resin we used on this video. We use Stonecoat Countertops Art Coat resin. Www.artisttilldeath.com
"THUMBS UP" I reach watched this again... (more times than I should admit) LOL and I have a question. If I were to do this on an exciting countertop... what would my preparations be? Clean the countertop... sand it, but what paint should I used before I do this Metallic Gold Mable effect.. The bace coat?... just acrylic paint? Gesso? Thank you for your help... ;)
Hello Judi, I would use a bonding primer after cleaning and sanding the countertop. Then wipe off again, paint it white or slightly off white depending on how noticeable you want your white over the base. Then proceed with the resin process. Thank you for watching!!
