I believe if it's going to be turned into some kind of walk/bike path, historical markers should be put in place utilizing those stone markers which are in this video. Quite a few of us enjoy these kinds of things and those who worked those old lines should be remembered some kind of way, otherwise, make plans to reactivate the lines and put them to good use. Far too many short-sighted people run things.
It remains to be seen if this is built in a way that can be useful to cyclists or if it's gonna be yet another path dedicated to groups of people walking slowly.
As someone who bikes, I approve of this. People argue these lines should be reactivated but its very costly to build new platforms, stations and have new tracks to maintain other than a bike path which brings more accessibility for walkers and bikers. It could also encourage biking to people who otherwise wouldn't for whatever reason from not feeling safe to or to it being difficult. Huge win.
And most of the tracks are gone but there’s still some sections of track that are still around in Montclair and Close to the Bergen tunnel interlocking
I just hope the paved path is wide enough that cyclists can still use it as the transportation corridor it was designed to be. That's as if it's not bad enough that we're tearing up existing electrified passenger rail lines in America.
This abandoned railroad 🛤 line must be reactivated what’s the point turning them into walking paths i think 🧐 all abandoned railroad tracks should be brought back to life. It’s just another ploy by corrupt politicians to get re-elected
They already turned one of the old lines from freehold to the highlands into the Henry Hudson trail. But it splits in Matawan because of some obstacles they can’t overcome plus it would cross live track. I always said they should’ve turned it back into a train line. That’d be a major route for this part of the state. Freehold to the back bay towns.

Would be a great bike path
This would be tough. I like it
As a active cyclist I approve of this project.

That’s so cool
Will there be piers built and fishing allowed?

And this is why our rents have gotten so high since the talk of this new path ... I know right where this is .. smh
Incorporate the mile and whistle markers into the bike path ? Vandals will destroy them.
Nooo that's socks I HATE RAIL TRAIL TRAILS TO RAILS
