I'm pretty sure if England won by penalties and had better stats you'd refer to stats in order to prove the England team was better. It didnt happen so you have to stick to another opinion.

"Penalties can go either way this doesn't signify dominance." Well, when the score is even and the players can no longer play but the tournament requires there to be a winner then penalties are much better than a coin flip, right? Just go and kick strong and accurately but England failed on that 3 out of 5 times. Football is a game of strong and accrurate shots, init?
long story short: they indeed were even by goals but Italy was better at penalties so Italy was better overall and thus deserved this.

It's funny how you disregard both statistics and penalties performance as irrelevant metrcis.
Go check out the Denmark vs Finland match. Denmark was WAY better in all possible aspects including stats and lost 0 - 1just by accident. And then Denmark made it to semi-finals so that even England barely could beat them even with a little help of their friends. Finland then lost to Russia and that was like the worst team in the tournament. Stats don't matter, man. Stats don't matter.

I'm Italian and live in Rome. I was though born in england in 1966. When I went to primary school and then secondary school, being the only Italian in the class, YOU HAVE NO IDEA what I was subject to when Italy lost and this also happened with some Secondary school teachers: now you have NO IDEA how I get thrilled when Italy win. As a 55 year old man I feel like that small schoolboy having his day of revenge.

Roberto Mancini and Vialli at the end is priceless, after failing to win the CL as players in Wembley they won the Euro for their country 30 years later as managers. Too bad Buffon missed out on this one, his age didn't let him.
Buffon is world champion and was the best player (with Cannavaro) in 2006 WC, don't forget that ;) Now it's Gigio Donnarumma's time. From Gigi to Gigio :D
The CL & Euro eluded Buffon but he played in those finals. 2012 final the team let down Buffon. Even as juve fan I can confidently say that Buffon was not going to save multiple pk's, he's never been good in shootouts.

@@davidjrawang1309 Technically speaking, this case is faster (two years + 1 of pandemic) :) Moreover, in 1998 France didn't have to qualify to the World Cup, since they hosted it (at that time this was the rule). And sometimes is much harder to qualify than playing a good cup. Nevertheless, France in 1998 was really a good and different team respect to 1994. I have to say that probably the toughest game they had was exactly against Italy. I can still remember a ball from Roberto Baggio that missed the goal for 10 cm.
