My neighbor just through one away so I grabbed it just because it was a Honda. I have Honda cars so I thought it can't be all bad. Thank you for this vid.
I like the old HR-214 and 215's a lot. I restore them and used to sell them. But now people seem to think they need a battery powered mower so they don't pollute so right now, I have 6 HR-214's and HR-215's. Advertise and little or no response. Got too much into them to take them to the dump. We bought our first HR-214 SM brand new in 1983. I was taking a lunch break and someone stole it right out of our yard. Went on a mission to find another and got addicted to the wonderful build quality. Keep the oil changed and the engine will run forever. Biggest issue is the Decks rot out. Many have holes through them. The Fertilizer's used on grass attacks the aluminum alloy deck. I found an HR-215 with an engine with a bent crankshaft but the Deck was new condion. So I have lots of parts for these.

The reason you cant find the plug is because they discontinued that part number. It was determined that it puts to much strain on the clutch mechanism. I used to run the plug but it does bog it down . The single blade(non mulching) and bag is better for high grass. But if you are a procrastinator grass cutter you dont need this mower anyways. . I run the double blade set up with the bag and it does fine and maybe 2 bags with my relatively small yard. Single blade is double the clipping because they're larger. I have the masters series.. I also switch between my Honda and my 14sb Deer. The Deer IMO over all wins for the cut anything more conveniently attitude it brings TriCut series, but this Honda win outlast my deer because it has belt, faulty bearings and you'll have to put rings in it sooner so if you cant maintenance then you should choose Honda everytime.. These Hondas have a driveshaft which is just awesome to me. For that I have two mowers and tell my wife to shove it when she complains about it thinking I should be selling one. Both 91' models. They just dont make them anymore like these...or maybe its they just dont make them In America anymore....
I have one of these that I use till this day.I paid almost $700 back in '92. Yeah, it is commercial grade. GVX140 is every bit as good as new commercial grade Honda engines. I change oil and clean air filter every season and it's bullit proof. These decks will corrode if you don't keep them reasonably clean. Leaving fertilizer on inside of deck is a killer!
They are both great. 3rd gear of the 3-speed is very fast. A Dealer told me 3rd gear is for rolling to the lawn and mow in first or second gear. Hydrostatic drive is infinite speeds but you need to change oil every 4 or 5 years. If there was a choice - Hydrostatic it would be.
This mower will outlast any other.

How much are they now? Got one for scrap but seems to have compression. No carb though
It's that Honda GXV is commercial line. This is a GXV140. OHV not necessarily commercial.
I'm looking at one for $50, the pull start is missing, but he says he just wears the rope around a few times and, one pull, it starts
How do you clean the carburetor on this mower
Great video sir thks
I have the same lawnmower as you and I want to know what oil is used for this?
10W-30 I believe for the engne.
This is a commercial mower?
Is it commercial ?
What's better hydrostatic or older 3spd gear transmission?

I checked your clip to show me how to start it. I am afraid you didnt quite show me how.
Best mowers ever made!
It is very hard to work with. I wish I had a simpler mower. This lawn mower is very complicated.
