I think birch is naturally antimicrobial and I love the smell that comes of birch leafs in steamy hot sauna. "Whisking" also improve blood circulation. Sometimes I give myself a little face massage with the leafs that have fallen from the whisk. Sadly I don't own a sauna myself but when I go to my parents sauna, my skin feels so wonderful after sauna. After a while in sauna you feel the heat going to your head so to speak and you need to cool down if you want to continue. In winter time rolling in the snow or jumping in the hole in lake ice will do the trick quickly 😄
@@elinahamalainen5867 wow!!! Sounds like so much fun! I really hope to try it someday. I feel really good when I steam my face to get my pores opened, so I can imagine how good it will feel, steaming my whole body!! 🤩
Birch is nature soap. I wash my hair with birch water when it is possible and it works like shampoo, but hair feels litlebit different after birch wash.
One thing different than in the film, is the fact, that in sauna you are butt naked, it is understandable, that here they use swimsuits in film. Us finnish nudity in sauna is natural thing. Nowadays there are mixed public sauna's and in those swimsuit is ok and optional. Thius nudity seems to be the biggest problem w/foreigners, when getting to know sauna among with the hit of the first löyly, some people feel they need escape to survive, so it is not necessarily pleasant first impression. To me it's next to heaven.
@@MQReacts This is not entirely true though. Some use bathing suits with friends some dont. I personally dont care and I find it pretty weird if someone judges another finn for not wanting to be nude in the sauna.
I absolutely love to watch your videos. You are smiling so much during the video and that exactly make these really enjoyable to watch. I really hope you will have your chance to visit Finland and have great time, when you are here!
Haha, I'm an old homeboy, but still I own two saunas. Home sauna and a cottage sauna. It's not considered a luxury here, than a quite normal arrangement.
It depends what heat what you want in the sauna, i loved when that is more than 100 Celsius. But that highly depends a bout person who is in the sauna.
Sauna is deeply tied to Finnish culture. As people who appreciate peace and quiet, a place where you don't need to pretend to be anything you're not is soothing for the soul. In old times women gave birth in saunas and the dead received their last baths in sauna, so sauna was present in all aspects of life. In real finnish sauna you go in bare-faced, having washed away everything that would hide your true self. Make-up, perfumes, jewellery... all of it stays outside sauna. You also step into sauna compeltely naked, with only a small towel to sit on. If cultural reasons demand, a thin linen towel can be used for covering but swimsuits are ill-suited for saunas heat. Cooling off between löyly keeps you from over-heating, allows better cardiovascular stimuli and makes the experience far more peaceful. Birch leaves release saponins, which are type of natural soap and oils that are anti-inflammatory, using a whisk helps with rheumatism and by removing dead skincells revives the skin. And birch whisk is easier to use than old timey stinging nettle whisks.
My grandparents had a plaque in their sauna which read: "Löylyssä viha viilenee, saunassa sappi sammuu" which translates to "Hatred will cool down in löyly, rage is extinguished in sauna".
Although there are no proven medical benefits from using Sauna.... The allover and very old tradition of the experience is overwhelmingly positive. Long story short... It just feels so good... Especially with swimming in our thousands of lakes and seashores. As finnish person myself I always look for saunas when I travel abroad. Two weeks maximum without Sauna. First thing when Coming home... To go over the journey and feel back home again... In good heat and total calm with silence.
At least the university of eastern Finland in their multiple and long studies think there are clear benefits. It lowers blood pressure and it reduces the risk of a lot of different things. For example the risk of cerebral infarction, blood vessel diseases etc. And their studies have also shown that if a man goes to a sauna 4-7 times a week his risk of dementia/alzheimer is 66 and 65 percent smaller than of a man who goes only once a week.
Nudity in sauna is like taking off that last mask of role we humans pretend to be, sauna is the place where you are you in your most pure and vulnerable form. One reason for so many dedicions are made in sauna because of the trust that grows from being there sincerely with others.
@@ArtoRepo I love the fact that people don't get into the Sauna with phones, else, I would be so uncomfortable thinking someone might take a picture of me naked😅😅
@@MQReacts most likely the phone wouldn't survive too long in a small, humid, 80c-100c room. also in finland it would be extremely weird for someone to even think about taking a photo in sauna of someone... especially someone who isn't very close to you.
One thing more. You have to be naked to really understand that. I have seen my best friends wife naked, he has seen me naked. Who cares? Its place to be safe. Do you trust your friend, i do. They do too. You come in and out of sauna to go swim or just got to porch to grasp cold drink or so on. Naked or not.
In my hobby circle we often go sauna all together without even thin someones gender, age, size... and without swimsuits. And it is natural for us to see different kind of bodys. I have taken my kids with us and they learn from young age to see this diversity.
@@MQReacts Why you are in vulnerable state? If you among friends you should not be. Sauna is for relaxing and enjoyable thing. In Finland there is quite many public saunas and there is very rarely any rapes. If you violate that peace, bad things start to hapend.
