I’ve been happy with my two mp60s and an ancient mp20. The mp20 has been running continuously in a small 40 gallon for more that 9 years with the original power supply and wet side. One of the mp60 power supplies died this year after 6 years of use. The price is high, but the quality of the gear and value over its life has been proven worthwhile.
Great review Ryan, Love my MP40's (non QD), been running them for 5 years now, 6 months cleaning maintenance needed, change my flow in the tank 5 times a day to provide variance, sand is lovely and white still and when cleaning and stirring up the sand minimal waste comes out, no wires in my display, what more could you ask for, the 5 years I've been using them I could have purchased numerous replaced of other brands, so although expensive at first, the old saying goes "you get what you pay for", so long as you look at your kit, your kit will look after you...
I replaced my noisy over complicated Maxspect Gyres with MP10’s and have never looked back and I like them so much that I have just bought some MP40’s for my imminent upgrade .👍👍👍
Yeah, Maxspect Gyres are noisy. I run two MP40's and two Gyres. I do however like the unique flow options having both running but the sound does bug me!
My MP40's have been great from day one, going on 2 yrs now. I do wish the newer cage accessory they offer for them was more affordable considering it is after all just a guard. I can't say the same for my Vortech M1. It died shortly after it's 1yr warranty ran out and I feel a bit cheated considering it's cost.
Good video👍👍 when to choose the right size how did you do this? The power of the different Vortech pumps is overlapping, so if you choose too small, the pump must run at maximum and vice versa. What size is your aquarium?
These pumps are not completely silent, I have been to a customers house that had these. Every time the pumps run you get a funky little buzz-humming noise of the power heads ramping up.
Sorry I missed the premier. Was busy doing water changes today 😉 I absolutely love my MP’s and wouldn’t trade them for anything other than Gyre’s possibly. The video got me thinking about how you mentioned mixing up the flow. I tend to set it and forget it and I’m glad you brought up such a great point. It’s so simple as you mentioned ... just a push of a button! Thanks for being so forward thinking! It’s nice to have your eyes opened every now and then from being in regular habits. Awesome video as always and I appreciate all your hard work and efforts!
I have enough flow of water using a Sicce 9.0 return. Pump which agitates the top as well. The aquarium is a fowlr no corals. Is it necessary to add other power heads? Why?
Love your coco worms. I recognized the red and white as I have two myself but not the other...is there a name for it? the tube is different looking that the other coco worms. Do you have a seahorse tank or is the seahorse in your regular tank?
I am curious in that 2 year period did you have to replace the wet sides? I have 4x mp40s and 2 are the originals before the QD came out that were converted. After about 7 years the magnets are having a problem holding. I have had to replace the wet sides a number of times though. Great update!
I have MP40W, wet side magnet disintegrated after about 3 years. They get a little noisy after about 6 months. Other than that, pretty nice. I hate the program modes.
@@AquariumsDownUnder I work at an aquarium store where we're running about 20 of them and at minimum once a week the dry sid will fall off. And when they fall off they vibrate on the glass. They get also get very hot. and I don't like the look of them sticking out from the sides of the tank
Think you need to try the new ones they seem to be made cheaper and loads of rust problems and when your spending silly amounts on a pump it shouldn't rust. Mine has gone in the bin. I would never buy their products again. I also find them noisy and while giving a good flow its not directional like a gyre which I now use all the time.
Great video. The vortech MP series pump is a great powerhead. I have 4 of them. If you need an extension for your MP on your big tank because the 8' cable isnt long enough, check out this extension cable from AquaLifeStudio, aqualifestudio.com/product_info.php?products_id=34
they are good but no they aint worth the extortonate amount of money they charge for them takes about 60 percent of would be customers out of the eqation just greed i guess
I seen that as well, I think they might be getting sued over the patent. Seen it on r2r about a company with a similar design made way before ecotech made these available for purchase? Dont know. Wish there was a similar wire outside the tank option for a lil less money
They're terrible and overpriced. Mine lasted 5 months and makes such a racket can hear it 3 rooms away. I have 2, one survived. Never going back to this brand the forums are full of issues with them and the ecotech never comment. They know it's badly made.

how many mp40 would you use for 1000g or would you use mp60? never had one but i want to test them
I Have had mine running for 3 years now and it hasn't skipped a beat. Brilliant product.

Dan Hg I agree I still rock my mp20.
Its amazing how many people dont know just how important flow is. Great topic as usual
Very true, if should be one of the first things which people learn about :)
@@PrestigeReef totally agree

Don't do it. Reasearch the forums. They are hugely unreliable. I have 2 one lasted 5 months. Terrible product. Massive regret.
Top Review 👍🏼 you’ve helped me make a decision
These pumps are not completely silent, I have been to a customers house that had these. Every time the pumps run you get a funky little buzz-humming noise of the power heads ramping up.
That means they aren’t aligned properly
I bought these after seeing your first review
lol tell that to Ecotech :p
Well done !!! Thank You !!!! Always enjoy your videos!!!!
Thank you, thats nice to hear :)
Excellent review!

That clip is from Mindis seahorse tank :)
I got one had to replace the wet and dry side
Very nice video. Which mode do you use ? Thank you :-)
Reef crest :)
This video has made me want those so badly
Sounds like someone is going shopping
Thanks for the review. Considering an MP40 currently.
Sounds like I posted it at just the right time

I haven't replaced the wetside ever... I'll be honest I'm pretty lazy... Ive barely even cleaned it....shhhhhh, don't tell anyone

Prestige Reef would send you a pic, but no way to do that.
Now that is how you do a review video!
Thank you :)
How and what do you use to clean them?
What size does your tank have? How many Mp40w QD are you using in this tank?
Nice tank and channel! :-)
its 1000 litres, I only have two running, one on either side
My mp10q Is noisy now. Need a new "wet side" of it. Not sure if i needed to maintain it better or thats normal life span.
It depends how often you are maintaining it at the moment :)
How many MP40's would I need on a 5ft mixed reef tank that is 30 inches deep 🤔
I only had 2 on my 5 foot
How big is your tank?
While I agree proper flow is important I can't stand the vortech. I'd rather use a gyre or the new nero
Stephen Chin-Sang why do you not like the vortech so much I haven’t used eather but I don’t see a reason not to like any of them

That makes sense but how thick is the glass on those tanks
I haven't experienced the falling off issue myself
At 34seconds why does that clown fish look blue?! Is it the lighting?
Yeah its the lighting :)
Such beautiful coral

Great stuff
Thank you :)
Thanks for the follow up
My pleasure :)
For 1 MP40 I can get 2 Tunze 6095, more flow, adjustable direction, and more quiet...
The ecotech brand is awful. Huge regrets buying 2 lasted 5 months make such a racket.
i am going to get a 20 gallon aio any tips?
lots and lots of research
Compared to gyres. How do these rate?
I've never had the pleasure of using a gyre so its hard to be able to say honestly
Quick answer, YES!!!
Agreed :)
Best pumps in the business
Agreed :)

Love your review, saving money for vortech MP40QD now...
I always prefer to save up and get the better products
Did it survive? I bought one and was a nightmare, never again
Can someone ID at 4:03?

Very impressive
Thank you :)
Ill buy it on ebay used cause aint no way in hell im dropping $300 on a single powerhead 😂

Missed the premiere this time :(
There is always next time
Looks like I need to upgrade me Chinese ones
It might be time
I like the product but it is over priced. As are many products for saltwater aquariums.
It all depends what is classified as overpriced
I've got these
Great arent they :)
Love every product of ecotech, but prize still too high
they become louder over time
I havent had that issue
you have some really beautiful fan worms
