Do it for the right reasons, because it's fun, not to get attention or numbers and try to put your personal touches on your production.
This is were i Live now! I lovemy city and we have awesome freeways. Probably the most beautiful city in the country. believe me I was a trucker I have seen every city in this Great Country!
I was just through there a week ago on my trip from Tennessee to California. Of 40, 70, and 80, this is my favorite for summer - not as hot, fewer mountains to climb, not quite as remote, and still very pretty. I'm not a fan of Cheyenne, but the rest of Wyoming through there is nice. I liked the next few hours of the drive west after SLC too - lots of salt flats, white everywhere! It looks really bizarre if you've never seen it before.

Nice work Jim! Glad you were able to get some footage of SLC. I think SLC has the best freeway in the nation for its metro size. Interesting that the east side of the I-215 belt was labeled I-415 on your 1963 map. Its probably better they kept the whole beltway signed as I-215.
Nice video Jim and I think back in 1997-2001 slc under Romney needs the 15 fwy to be reworked due to the winter Olympics traffic it will have in the winter of 2002. By the way Jim when are you going to release your Monterey-big sur videos? The pictures you have on the group page reminds me of the trek I did back in 2012
It looks like UDOT petitioned to have 415 changed to 215 in 1968. (couldn't post the link) I have a couple vintage photos of I-15 in the 60's with signage for 415. I may post them to the group at some point.
Thanks, I used that U2 Song on a video last year (I-95 No. VA) and my policy with repeating songs is that I don't use a song again unless I think I can get a much better video out of it, I did not think I could here although it would not have been a bad choice at all. I did not notice the grid as I never got off the highway but I see what you mean on a map.
I came back through Dallas on the way home, got enough for maybe 2-3 videos. Did not stay as we planned but hopefully I'll get back there sooner than later.
You need to go to Boise Idaho Sometime!!! The ITD has just finished a widening project in late 2012 that widened much of the road from 2 to 4-6 lanes per side depending on the area another project is starting this spring to rebuild 3 exit ramps. And widen the road from 2 to 3 lanes east of Boise starting at mile marker 57! I live there so that's how I know.
Nice! Can't wait to see California! By the way, on my way to Arizona, I switched planes at Salt Lake City, so it's good to know I saw some airport guide signs on I-80 while landing.
If you have more time to visit than just driving through Salt Lake, Utah's a great place for scenery. Four national parks, and a lot of hiking/camping/Skiing.
The Bonnevile Salt Flats are an amazing natural wonder, but I think a video of them might be a bit boring, just because the scenery is unchanging for much of the ride.
Brandon Gabriel Then you should have replied directly to his comment. He could be commenting on the fact that the next video is "Welcome to California" meaning I didn't film anything along I-80 in Nevada, I'm sure he knows SLC is in Utah.

Thanks, glad you liked it. Yes I found that I-415 marking odd which is why I used that map in the beginning.
Great video, Jim. Enjoyed the ride. Thanks for sharing it.

Is Salt Lake City is the state capitol of Utah? I love the music & the sunset. Thanks Jim!
Justin Hundley yes, SLC is Utah's capital and largest city
I can't wait for California! I always want to see some new light posts there. And I LOVE Atlanta, GA.

No videos from the Boneville Salt Flats or I-80 in Nevada?
Yes it is, thanks.
The Woodrow Wilson bridge? The oldest I have is from 2007 so essentially, no I don't.
No Reno video, it was raining a little through there, would not have worked out well.
Thanks1
No, it was dark through the Salt Flats and we didn't film on I-80 in NV until the CA border.
Looks like you are headed to SF. Come on by!
Yes indeed, I did all this in mid-June, got 9-10 Bay Area videos coming up.
Jim what city do u live in?
Them Utah highways look neat to travel on
'Jim, how do u get the time 2 do all of this research on the music and highways
Just efficient I guess and not doing much else in my free time.
one other question; how do u project the highway signs in most of ur vids
Brandon Gabriel Some are graphics from wikipedia, some, like the big green signs are cropped from photos I'm shooting along the way.
I went to SLC as a kid. Looked the same ten years ago.
Only real differences are the freeways, city stayed the same. The I-80 interchange was redone. It's a nice place to live, but kinda boring to visit.
Very nice.
Awesome!

You missed the best part of I-15 in Utah: Speed Limit 80!
FlagDUDE08 lol yes, but that’s more down south of Provo, I’m the metropolitan area the top speed is 70-75, 80 is associated with rural landscapes
I-80 Through Nevada is long and while not completely boring, it's not very interesting either, just kind of there.
Can't wait to move here by 2018. Hopefully the country is still doing somewhat ''well" around that time.
1JayVon Can't guarantee it, but I think we'll be just fine ;)
