The music fits this video like a glove, Jim. And the video brings back fond (and not so fond) memories of Parley's Canyon. I almost caused a major accident going downhill in 1987. I was just learning how to drive a big rig, and it was literally my first attempt at using an engine brake. I believe "Oh my God, we're gonna die" is still echoing through the Canyon!
I have never fallen in love with such a perfect orchestration between Music, Scenery, and Highway until this video, especially on I-80.. .. btw freewayjim I traveled the I-80 portion of the stretching coming from Wyoming, going into Salt Lake City (originating from Atlanta, Destination Seattle) .. It was at night and I couldnt see the mountains and hills, I just knew they were there and I have always wanted to see it during the day.. and finally I got to see it!
I finally had the chance to see this Saturday afternoon after a very hectic week. Great mountain scenery with some laid back vintage tunes. Glad I caught in on my big screen with the Yamaha blasting the tunes!
@@Freewayjim I really love you videos. This video seems like Grand Turismo video game when you speed up the filming. I live in Miami and the landscape is soooo boring. 😢
WOW. That was absolutely amazing, incredible, unbelievable and very breathtaking. The scenery was phenomenal. The music was perfect for every part of the trip. Thanx for posting this.
Another great video. I find myself, like a lot of your followers, looking forward to the new videos every week now. Parts of this brings me to mind of two highways here. The windy section of the WV Turnpike. Remember that section well travelling to and from NC. It also brought me to mind of I-68 from Morgantown to Cumberland. That one could make for a great video. Love the music selections as always. Have never been a huge fan of Jethro Tull, but I find myself making an exception for this one mainly because it's one I've never heard before. Again, great video and happy new year, Jim.
This lamb wishes you a happy new year. There was lots of yummy vegetation along these roads. This lamb surely won't be hungry. 😋 And as an added bonus: button copy. A rare unicorn in Utah this lamb is sure now days. Great work.
I have been on part of Interstate 80 from Salt Lake City to Park City. Very nice stretch of interstate, and it is nice in the winter as well. All of I-80 & I-84 in this video are very neat, for sure.
Very nice run, Jim - we did the Westbound chunk of I-84 from Echo down to Ogden back in late June of 2012, and I thought it was a very nice run , one of the best stretches of our entire NJ to UT trip.
I live in NH and I thought the White Mountains were impressive... 😳 I’ve always been a fan of Utah and this vid makes me want to move there as a backup in case I decide to move out of NH. Thanks for the vid man!
I bet you've seen some scary stuff on these trips. I used to drive 6 to 8hrs each day, and you know the risks. I appreciate your work here. Beautiful music, beautiful scenery, an excellent quality. Thank you.
Freewayjim It’s a lucky thing you weren’t Burger Planet when the huge Lakewood I-70 crash happened. If I were Burger Planet I’d be freaking out even more than he did.
Another great video with an even better soundtrack. Hadn't heard Tull's "Farm On The Freeway" in years. Brings back good memories with friends long past.
Just discovered your channel and I feel so lucky! It's poetic to watch your videos. You have excellent taste in music Jim! I have been to the United States thrice and have always loved the drives on the highways. Your videos make me feel like I am on the same roads again! So thank you for that. Also, you should look at creating playlists of these songs!
That was a great ride and well worth going out of the way for. And you clinched I-84. Great music choices also. Digging that "metal" flute of Jethro Tull!
Thank you! yes I have no regrets, just wish the weather was a little better and it's always good to clinch an Interstate. Speaking of Tull, I'll have to fit Aqualung into a video someday :)
Great soundtrack for a great ride, Jim. This is the type of ride that really makes me miss driving in the mountains of Southern California; Florida's too flat.
Greetings from NH FreewayJim....perfect Jethro Tull opening song, "Farm on the Freeway". He was a rich man before, now he has a million dollars and a pickup truck.
Very nice ride, always good to see canyon roads as well- makes me really appreciate how diverse, different freeways are and all! Hope to one day explore some of these roads myself! Happy New Year by the way!!!!
I lived in salt lake city for 10 years and drove truck from 1990 to 1994 and if I could I would skip parleys canyon I would take 84 instead and come in from the north thanks for the memories I like ur videos pretty cool anyways be safe out there . Thanks again
Hi FreewayJim & TH-camrs hope Everyone had a Pleasant New Years 2017-! Anyway May the Weather be for You because we TH-camrs Enjoy Your Driving/Travel Videos & Music!
IDK why but I always forget about this section of I-84! ... I always count 84 among the few highways I've ever seen the entire length of ... ... and then I realize every time I go that way I'm headed for SLC, so I've never seen the section east of I-15. (I think my next trip to SLC will involve a slight detour... :) ).
very nice. It looks much more lush and green that I would have expected around Salt Lake City. :-D I think I saw portions of this road in realtime awhile ago from BigRigTravel's channel.
It's interesting to play certain scenes at "actual speed" at .25 so it's more like traveling at 75 and catching the details. Also, it's interesting to hear "Undone" by the Guess Who at .5 or .75 as if it was sung as a slow bluesy version.
US-40 East brings you to Atlantic city, NJ from I-80 Utah exit 140. SLC to Atlantic City with a RV should be I-80 East to Patterson NJ Exit 57 RT-19 South for GS Parkway south to exit 38 a distance of 117 Miles. Alternative route is I-80-PA-33-78-22-287-18-Parkway-ACE. Note RT-18 to parkway is exit 105 13
One thing that mildly annoys me about the interstate system is that I-70 terminates in the middle of Utah. Imo, to take a true East-West roadtrip, one simply must drive I-70 in Colorado (Of course, if one feels like it, taking back roads is awesome, I mean, who can argue with trail ridge road?), but I-70 only takes you to Utah. Of course, if one wanted to only take one interstate for the entire trip, then they could just take I-80---but---then they miss out on the Rockies. Of course, taking the same interstate Coast-to-Coast doesn't really matter, so one can just take the full length of I-70, then take I-15 up to I-80. Man, I have that much to rant about interstate numbers? Great video by the way, Jim!
Or you could take the southern route on I-10 during the winter months. Another route is I-40 although it ends in Barstow, CA not quite all the way to the coast.
Caeshristopher Buckley It's probably another I-84. Years ago I-84 was called I-80n but it caused confusion. I remember a truck driver in Brigham City (21 miles north of Ogden) asking where I-80 was. In order to tell him I had to ask where he wanted to go. When he said Idaho I directed him to what was then I-80n which today is I-84. I-84 in the west leads to Portland Oregon thru Idaho. I-80 passes through Nevada to San Francisco.
I grew up in this area and thought it was beautiful until I moved to Colorado. Then I realized Utah is just Colorado's baby brother. Colorado is far more impressive.
I’m from Utah. Utah puts letters on the sides of the mountains everywhere. The M on that mountain stands for Morgan which is the town. Mainly they are by high schools which are who does the letters. There was a U on one mountain before he enters the first canyon because that’s the Uintas.

The US 40 intersection you showed is the western terminus of US 40.
Have you ever been on interstate 81 in Syracuse

It is a great drive from start to finish, I hope you get to someday.
Jim, have you traveled eastern part I-84 west of Waterbury, CT to I-81 near Scranton, PA (The Office). I know you Traveled I-84 east of Waterbury.
Yes I have traveled all of it.

Boy the cloudy weather in this video makes me tired
Yep
Hauled a few haz loads thru here on my way to California. Fun😐
Didn't know the the mountains on I-80 are right on the Salt Lake city limits. I guess eastward expansion of the city is out of the question.
Yes it really is, the Wasatch Mountains run for quite a distance north-south, check it out on Google Earth sometime, it's pretty neat.
At 6:37 is that a big M on the side of the mountain? Do you know the story behind it?
I think it's for a local High School or small college
probably Morgan High school
It is Morgan based, it is Morgan high school

Well there's still very few to really notice
"She's Come Undun"?
@15:30: I'm surprised you didn't mention that I-80 was originally US-40, and other US-40 trivia.
