Thanks Justin. Really helpful and encouraging. I’m 70 and considering this IM mainly cos of the easier (?) swim. 2021 is my target and am already working on the training for it. Always good to listen to your vids 👍
Awesome man! Lots of time, very exciting! Yeah, Chatt is a great one for fast swims; it's consistently rated as one of the very fastest. From London, I'd say put some thought into heat training. Chatt has historically had pretty hot temps; London is more temperate, right? You might look into some heat adaptation/sauna time as you get much closer. The only con is that sauna work 'disappears' really fast too. You can't train it months in advance, it's more the couple weeks and days right before the race. But yeah, awesome, enjoy the process!
Great video thanks, and excellent observation about the sensorial experience of crossing the line, I'd forgotten about that! Finally, your bib number was the same as mine at my first IM
Hey! I live in Knoxville TN and plan to take part in May 2022 for the first time. please tell me or if you can share a link to purchase a cambial for swimming and which bike should be used according to the rules?
I had other bone conducting swimming headphones and as soon as I entered the water there was no sound. Do you have to wear ear plugs? I'm thinking of sending them back and getting xtrainers
That's really weird. No, no earplugs required! Plugs reduce a little of the water noise, but I don't like wearing plugs and it's fine without them. You're never going to get like... home audio headphone quality of course, but perfectly good for just having a distraction.
If you check out the below-linked video around 5:30 you can hear the details on it. In short, I had a 1x concentrate bottle of caffeinated Tailwind in my BTA bottle, and a 3x concentration BTS. At SN, I had another concentrated bottle of non-caffeinated. I was aiming for ~325cals/hour on the bike. Ended up falling behind a little bit around hour 4 or so, but caught back up and felt better.

What was your nutrition during the race?
