Exactly, they have played great until now and they have their arch rival game coming up, this was their mental blip against a likely bowl team at a tough place to play and they still managed to win despite playing terrible offensively.

This was Oregons 8th conference game without a bye( most in FBS) and traveling 2 time zones. Wisconsin was coming off a bye with extra rest and extra time to prepare. Thier last 2 opponents were both coming off byes with extra rest and prep time. This was a good test for Oregon. Battle tested and preparing for thevplayoff

      @pnwadventurer802 this.
Also, this is Oregons first seaaon in the BIG10. As you know of course. Point is. They are facing teams they never have. Traveling more as you said. Speaking as a die hard Ducks fan. I didn't expect them doing amazing this season. I thought they'd struggle. Like, already have 3 or so losses by now. The fact they're 11-0 and beat who they have. And play how they have. Its all gravy now. Its an amazing foundation to built on. Oregon is on the map fully now.
Point is. They are ahead of schedule.

Ok there’s a few things you need to keep in mind, and why this was a good win. 1.) that’s Oregon 2nd long distance travel game in three weeks 2.) that’s Oregons 8 straight game without a bye 3.) second straight week where the opponent had a bye going into the game 4.) that was Wisconsin’s Super Bowl. They played their absolute hardest because we are #1 and they need another win for bowl eligibility. 5.) every Oregon and Wisconsin game has been like that this. Tough nose down to the wire type of game. They are still the best team in the country whether you guys think they should’ve won by more or not

Also Andy, it’s funny that you say the fake field goal is stupid when you have no idea what went on in the headsets. The look was there all game, and the fact nobody expected it means it was a good time to try it. The runner tripped, and was a yard short. If they got an additional yard you would be saying it was genius. Casual Andy back at it again with weird takes

I love Dan Lanning's aggression! I'm of the feeling that the most important hurdle for our program is to overcome any apprehension to perform when the lights are brightest. Dan Lanning is creating a "WE ARE THEM DUDES" mindset through his fearless play calls in critical situations. Eventually, when we do possess the talent advantages of those dominant Alabama and Georgia teams from years past, we won't have need to be tight in critical moments because everyone will already no - WE'RE THEM and WE DO US!
    go Ducks!

    • @marinz4life

@@brutusvonmanhammer and that's besides the point. The man has lost 5 games in 3 seasons; he's completely reset the mindset of this team to that of a gunslinger. How many times were we overtaken by inferior teams in tight games? This team has been conditioned to play to win so any lingering apprehension certainly isn't due to a mindset instilled via conservative coaching (think: Cristobal).

Wisconsin didn’t know that fake was coming. If Patrick Herbert number 88 picks up that block Ross James runs that in for a touchdown. Putting the offense out on the field in that situation ruins the element of surprise which is the whole point. If that play goes for a touchdown he’s a genius. It fails so it’s stupid..that’s how those things go.

Look, I like Patrick Herbert, he's a nice kid. But let's be real...he's on the field because he's a legacy player and he's Justin Herberts brother. He just isn't good. The amount of drops, missed blocks, and unathletic plays he makes is mind boggling.

@@brutusvonmanhammerTE is like a Swiss knife position… variety of skill sets at disposal. His strongest suit happened to be blocking. That’s why when you it comes to passing with Herbie involved, usually has element of surprise with wheel route and tunnel screens. Granted he drops balls here and there but so does fergie, tez, and etc when they react faster then actually catching the ball. Now that said, you can’t value Patrick off this one game or few drops. He is so vital to this offense and blocking scheme. If you see other games he makes good gaping holes for James and Whittington to waltz through. This one game by missing few assignments, he played by far his worst game. I think he be true TE1 if he was in any other team.

The fake goal was the right call, if you kick the field goal you risk missing or getting it blocked, if you make it you still lose if Wisconsin scores a TD. If you’re successful on the fake field goal conversion you win the game, now if you go for the fake and you’re not successful you have the defense playing lights out and Wisconsin having to go like 65 yards in 2 minutes with the worst QB I’ve seen at this level. If Wisconsin does tie it up with a field goal Oregon still pretty much a lock to win in overtime.

I was too, in the moment, but then I stopped and thought about it and didn't mind AS much. They only had one timeout left. Doing this guaranteed they had to drive the same length of field to get a field goal as they would have a touchdown, and in this scenario they merely get the CHANCE to win, not a virtual guarantee with a touchdown.

Am I concerned no. Disappointed? Yes. This is something that some people like my Dad don't seem to grasp that has me frustrated. Our third best receiver is probably as good as moat teams best receiver. There is no excuse for the offense grinding to a halt JUST because of Tez being out. Figure it out. That being said, it's not just about Tez, its being tired, a newer o lineman, etc. So I give SOME grace. I would like to see Will Stein react better in game though. During the first half, we SAW they had gameplanned against the short throws that have the receivers spin around to get to the boundary to get more yards. I'd like to have him adjust and call some routes that instead have them cut back inside that allow them to get more yards on the short throw.

I'm a duck fan, and in the moment on that 4th down fake field goal, I was hoping they would go for it, even if they failed to get the first down. Why? Because another field goal would force them to kick off most likely for a touchback which would put Wisconsin at the 25. Second, another field goal would guarantee Wisconsin throws on every 4th down, they have to try for a touchdown from this point on. At only 3 points ahead, they lessen the risk of a 4th down touchdown pass if it comes to that, and they still have the most likely option of kicking a field goal on 4th down to tie it and send it to overtime. If they turn it over on downs at the 10 yard line, they have to work that much harder and march 90 yards in 2 minutes which had a high percentage of failing. Wisconsin's passing game was not there the entire night, they would have had to rely on the run game and that eats a ton of time. Oregon's defense was playing very well in the 4th quarter, I liked the decision to put the game into their hands and seal the deal. And if the play worked? Hey that's another set of fresh downs and a chance to put the dagger in the game. I loved the call either way.

Oregon has played 8 games in a row. Crossed 2 time zones two of the last three games. Has been carrying the giant target on their backs as #1 for over a month now, some critical injuries to critical players. They had reasons to have a stumble. Important part is that they got up and persevered. Now they have a Bye week, then into the conference championship and beyond.

If they get the field goal they lead by 6 and Wisconsin has to go for a TD. If they get a TD Wisconsin wins the game. Lanning was playing to win or go to overtime...and not to lose the game!

I had this game circled as a tough one since beginning of the season. Wisconsin is NOT a bad team, if there were ranks beyond 25, they’d easily be right in the 25-30 mark. Point being Oregon’s consistent games week after week after week has very obviously worn them out. They lost Tez Johnson, they lost Jordan Burch, Marcus Harper got banged up, they have been making money moves all season long and at the end of the longest stretch of games in the FBS this season, they still came out with a hard win, but a win nonetheless against a good team with a good defense. I’m not disappointed in Oregon’s game, but this Bi week could not come soon enough for Ducks for recuperation and injuries 🦆💯😅

Andy, he came up ONE YARD SHORT! Lanning has pulled these kind of shenanigans many times and you know what? More often than not it works! Why? because it's unexpected! That is Lanning in a nutshell. FFS, the guy got a TD AND a 2 pt conversion last week getting the ball to offensive linemen! The onside kicks, the fake punts, fake field goals, fake knees, that's why we love Lanning! He's not some cookie cutter coach who plays it safe, he's a renegade that always leaves you guessing.
Regarding him using the punter THAT'S WHAT SELLS THE FAKE! You think if they put Gabriel out there Fickell wouldn't IMMEDIATELY know what was about to happen?! No! That would have been completely choreographed and likely stuffed at the line instead of just short of the sticks!

Compare the box score to that of PSU and Alabamas performance against Wisconsin… we had more first downs, almost as many yards, and gave up 25% less yards on defense. Let’s be real, there was a few BS penalties that haven’t been called all season. Gabriel’s INTs have mostly been tipped balls from his own guys… Wisconsin has one of the best nickel and dime defenses in the country, and Oregon had 8 players out. Oregon is still the best team in the country. Also, when Oregon had the best special teams in the country they always had the QB hold every kick for reasons like this.

It was early in the season and Wisconsin didn’t have an identity yet, it was during the day time (which yes does matter), Wisconsin had to throw in the backup qb that didn’t have any experience with the offense yet, and not to mention since that win Alabama has lost twice and should’ve lost to South Carolina. Ducks > tide

So #1 Oregon barely squeaks by an unranked Big 10 Wisconsin with a 3-4 conference record and an overall 500 record. What does this say about the CFP rankings? It says Wisconsin played above their weight, or Oregon is not as good as the CFP would have us believe, or maybe a little of both. If you believe the CFP rankings (I don't), then Oregon should have easily handled Wisconsin even if playing on Wisconsin's home turf. This is not a "good" win. As I understand the CFP metrics, a good win is classified by the CFP as a win against a better-than-500-team and Wisconsin so far is a 500 team overall, no more. If Wisconsin wins out, they will classify as a good win. Remember, the final CFP rankings are the only ones that will really count and these are still TBD. I hear a lot of excuses being given for Oregon (not a good look for you Ducklings), but that's what Oregon really signed up for when they jumped to the Big 10. Enjoy the karma. Let me get my violin out! Everybody has injuries and everybody is tired blah, blah, blah. Only the strongest will survive and that means three more games for conference champions, four more for first round teams.

@@terrywhite6269 oh Terry your a fool. Que up the buckeyes excuses after they lost to Oregon 🤷🏻‍♂️ last time I checked though ducks are still 11-0. Which is better than anything the sec, osu or fill in the blank has done. Casual take for an old fella like yourself I expected better

It says Wisconsin played above their weight. Facts are facts that Oregon beat the second best and 13th best team in the country. Maybe stay in your lane grandpa.
