    Well, the skydiving demo was awesome, but this video featuring some interesting video takes the cake for being cool. It's awesome to see skydivers, what's more awesome is using Google Glass to record their flights down. Good music as well, it fits the extreme skills of the skydivers.

  • @MikeTrieu
    @MikeTrieu 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The point is they made a streaming camera in a form-factor usable enough for extreme conditions. If it can be done in that environment, it can be done practically anywhere. That's quite empowering to me.

    These are shot from the Google Glass "augmented reality scouter" project, so they are a much truer perspective (as far as what your eyes actually see) for all the first-person shots. This is an extension of the first released photos with Google Glass, which were the first-person perspective of a father swinging his child around, with both hands in the photo. The photo was taken from the eye's perspective, handsfree at will. Capturing your own vision at will, with video... is this. Amazing.

    Indeed. It was interesting to hear Sergei nearly lamenting that omission in the behind-the-scenes video.

  • @AndersKjeldgaardNielsen
    @AndersKjeldgaardNielsen 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    No, what I mean is the picture quality when recording. If you ever tried to film something while walking, you often get this shake, from everytime your feet hit the ground, something you don't notice normally, but the camera picks up, unless it has antishake function.

  • @MikeTrieu

  • @wrenchy744
    @wrenchy744 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Incorrect. If you read Sergey Brin's Google+ Post,
    "The aerial footage was captured on Glass. The higher fidelity footage was recorded locally on the device whereas the hangouts were live streamed at a much lower resolution because of the challenges of networking a skydiver inflight." " Because we were unable to get regular wifi (which is built into Glass) to work under those conditions, we had to use extra networking gear which was tethered via usb to the device"
    Go-Pro was not used.

  • @havanahjoe
    @havanahjoe 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Supposedly it was all shot using the glasses: "The higher fidelity footage was recorded locally on the device whereas the hangouts were live streamed at a much lower resolution because of the challenges of networking a skydiver inflight"

  • @suatae

    People at the I/O could preorder unpolished developer glasses for 2013 (going at $1500), so that means consumers will probably get the final version sometime in 2014.

  • @MeneerAanvalsbeer

    its not a webcam glasses with added bluetooth to communicate with devices such as a phone, but it is a smartphone itself that you can wear, and have an augmented reality screen in front of your eye.

  • @MikeTrieu
    @MikeTrieu 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, hands-free video has been done via helmet cams for quite some time now. What Google did was package mobile phone technology into a lightweight head-mounted unit. Glass has many more sensors that a simple helmet cam does which leads to rich media with multi-faceted context.

    Glass not only record images, it can project things like on a HUD directly on what you watch, it will bring augmented reality in a pretty cool way i think. It even has a microphone and a speaker, maybe in a few years it will just replace smartphones, with clouds it will be amazing.
    Hope all will become real :)

    The video is demonstrating its use as a point-of-view video recording device, and the amount of immersion that goes hand in hand with that. I thought that was obvious. It's not designed to be a spec trailer.

  • @MikeTrieu
    @MikeTrieu 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it's YOU who made the assumption that this device was intended for immersive AR. Clearly, it's not, otherwise it'd have a binocular display and be line-of-sight. It's "augmented" in the sense that it offers limited at-a-glance information, but that's their design decision to make. Other companies can and are currently developing devices with much richer experiences. For now, we all play the waiting game until they're released.

  • @HTTYDinHeaven
    @HTTYDinHeaven 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    They'll probably make prescription glasses with this built in. After all, this is basically (from what I can tell) a pair of glasses with plastic/real glass covering the eyes and a little camera or whatever built into the side. So they'll probs just add the tech to normal glasses.

  • @soapy010
    @soapy010 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just to be clear, all the footage was filmed with the glasses. The footage on the screen was just blurrier because it was from a lifestream.

  • @MikeTrieu
    @MikeTrieu 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Recording in HD isn't an issue. Even streaming it over a network isn't a problem. The real issue is that the network in question is the wireless carriers' cellular networks, which are dog slow, unreliable, and spotty. Apparently, you can't even rely on them 1 mile above ground (most likely due to the cell towers' relatively flat radiation pattern).

    Although, the social implications would be interesting to work out. You wouldn't be able to discretely trash talk someone on Facebook while in the same room because that other person would see it immediately. Sure, that could happen today with modern smartphones, but real-time facial recognition could superimpose the comment in a speech bubble right next to the poster! A much more satisfying visceral experience.
