The thing you can always depend on with Hamilton clocks is they're almost always broken and it's always the hairspring. BTW this clock is solid walnut

Hi, you have a nice way of explaining things. Wish you showed us exactly where to oil the hammers -- mine is chiming slowly but keeping accurate time.

Bracket clocks are okay for me but the design on this particular one impresses me!

I have the same clock but from 1986. Mine has the newer balance. I took it to a shop because the mainspring was broken somehow. The shop told me it was near end of life and to replace the whole inside works would be about $300. I said no thanks and left. I got on TH-cam and found out all I needed was a new mainspring. I took it out and ordered the barrel and spring for $35. Got it all back together and it works fine. I guess that shop thought I looked like a sucker! 🙂

Usually clock shops opt to entirely replace Hermle movements due to the fact that Hermle is still an active company and makes the movements brand new, which defeats the purpose of taking one completely apart and cleaning it, adding bushings to worn pivot holes and making adjustments. If I were the owner of a shop, I definitely would've just done what you requested and replaced the mainspring. :<
Glad you got it fixed yourself!

Just inherited my dads that he got for his 25 year award from Ratheon. It wound up and chimed but wont start? It has four chime settings on the right.

Hi, I need help. I recently bought a similar clock from a flea market. When I wound the center dial it is already at the point where I cannot turn it anymore but my clock still hasn't moved. In the back, the spring didn’t start or move. The instruction on the back of the clock says to tilt the clock left to right so I did and it started moving but then would stop. Do you know why this is or does it need some oil?

Just got one of these. Can you go backwards woth the time to set and do you have to wait for every chime before setting the time?

Still don’t understand how to slow or speed this clock; is it done with the two screws at the top?

    • @DannysClocks

On the balance wheel that oscillates back and forth, there are multiple little arms above the several pressed in dots. You stop the balance wheel, and use a small screw driver or maybe even a toothpick, and gently push those arms in the + or - direction, depending on the adjustment you need to make. I hope this helps.

I have a Solar Mantle.clock with the same type of floating balance. A horologyt told to just ultrasonically clean.and properly dry the balance mech but not to oil it. The.flosting balance wheel has no jewels but rather the balance staff of the balance is suspended between 2 springs in a tube and allowed to oscillate back and fourth freely. Adding oil will eventually cause this to gum up and start to.slow down..They are easy to remove and to clean in an ultrasonic cleaner or simply.dip it in alcohol and.let it soak.My solar clock runs perfectly and keeps perfect time and the amplitude increased at least 100%. My solar.mantle clock has triple chimes and a silence mode. I bought it for 25 dollars and it hadn't run for 20 years. A quick clean oil and service took me an hour and it has been running flawlessly for 6 months. I has a Hermle movement like several models of this Era.. probably from the 70's Good job getting it going.

Ohh okay! Thank you for letting me know. You're right, the balance wheels are easy to remove from the movement so I'll set up an alcohol bath sometime and get them cleaned out. I use a synthetic clock oil so hopefully the oil doesnt get gummed up, because I've never had that happen in any other case.

You said you replaced the floating balance on your one clock with a new one. Where did you get the new one? Thank you in advance. Love your videos.

Thanks for the compliment! I'm glad you enjoy them.
To answer your question, I got it from an old movement with an identical floating balance assembly which was functioning properly.

Si quieres más información, busca este vídeo en inglés: "How To Oil A Clock (or Clock Repair) - A Step-By-Step Guide"
