This song sings about something I have known and experienced firsthand. Trying to go home to the little town in the mountains of North-Western Pennsylvania, that doesn't exist anymore, led me to a bottomless feeling of sorrow. Everybody there has died, swallowed up by cruel Time. Only the cemeteries and the beautiful old headstones are still there. Back then, my young self knew that this was a precious time, but who could know just how precious it really was?
Paul Brewster singing tenor on this is absolutely fabulous!! Praying for you Paul! This album is one of my favorites! My brother played banjo on it. It won a grammy award!
Love Ricky. Meet Ricky and Dr. Ralph Stanley in Pa. My father grew up with them both same schools. Sound system went down and my father called me to help. Fixed it all. It was a blessing to help these guys. God bless these guys.
Best recorded version ever.... I'm sure Ralph and Carter had more soul when you saw them perform this in person, but, how can anybody beat this version..... Powerful... Ricky Skaggs is the ONLY successor to Ralph Stanley... Marty Stuart could have been, but went his own great direction... All these guys are wonderful...

There was two different voices in that song, Ricky on lead and someone else though I can't say who, and I don't think he played all instruments by himself, that's impossible!
Mr. Skaggs, Missoula Montana NOW has a Cracker Barrel, at the one concert you played in Missoula Montana, you remarked that you couldn't believe a city the size of Missoula didn't have a Cracker Barrel … sure would love to see you in concert again!!!

Yes he is. I had the honor to me Ralph Stanley... My father was raised side by side with him. He performed in Waynesboro Pa and his sound and electric went out and I was called in to help get his performance on. What a success. Love all bluegrass
