    Now this is what a demo should be like! Enough action to display what the tool can do and all done in six minutes. Very efficient, well done Burgs.

    Great to hear this demo in context. Superb playing too. One of the best reviews of any product I’ve watched. Mooer ought to be paying you because I’ve just ordered one based on this review. All I need to do is get my playing up to that level. Really nice melodic playing rather than widely nonsense. Thank you.

    Excellent
    I own a Mooer GE 200 as well, but you make it sing with your tasty playing. Plus I really dig your Musicman Guitar, Plus Plus, your video was an excellent tutorial of the unit itself. I've watched a ton of "Demo" videos about the unit, but by far yours was the most enjoyable to showcase it's ability of dialing in nearly any tone you could want to achieve. Lastly, that backing track was a perfect groove to put the icing on the top. Cheers Mate

    Nice Skunk Baxter stylee going on there.
    I just got the Radar. Almost wishing I'd gone the rest of the way and got the GE-200 now.
    The other demos I heard were more metal oriented, but you've showed it can do "tasteful" too.

    I've been praising this little beast all over YT. 'Been playing since the late 70's and this is likely one of the most surprising purchases of guitar gear I've run across. I power it with a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170 into a 4x12 and with some particular good IRs, it just flat out slays. The Choptones packages for the GE200 are icing on the cake. As usual Brett, great playing and another fine demo.

    Is there a reason why everybody uses the modulation after the amp and cab section?
    I have my chain structured like I would do in real life.

    You did a demo on a couple of Mooer mini preamp pedals which I believe this unit has in it as well. Do those amp models sound the same as the pedals? Better or different ?
    Thanks !

    • @BrettKingman
      @BrettKingman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not sure whether they're the same models or not. The big difference in the interfaces makes it hard to tell and I haven't tried to do an A/B. Too much to do here.. Cool little pedal, though. I reckon it will suit a lot of players who don't need tons of options or control on the fly. But even so, it still packs a convincing wallop and the ability to import your own IR's makes it even more appealing, I think. Especially for the price asked which is usually well under $500 locally.

    I didn't see an explicit "power amp IR" section covered in the demo. I am left wondering if the amp models in this pedal model just the *preamp* of each amp???

    • @justsomeguynamedrobgaming9691
      @justsomeguynamedrobgaming9691 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, there was the power amp tube character at the 4:40 mark of the video which did have an impact on the sound as a whole. Or were you wanting to get into specifics of what tubes, how many, pentode/triode operation, etc.?

    • @MrKingswebe
      @MrKingswebe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justsomeguynamedrobgaming9691 you're right, some of the parameters pertain to the power amp section. However, IIRC (this is going back 5 months ago and I did not end up keeping this unit), there was no IR capability. So preamp and power amp modeling - yes, IRs -no.

    Nice ! can i ask your opinion , there's a huge price diff to jump up to an ax8 or helix from this , is the sound difference that much in comparison , does this get close to those units or is noticeably cheaper sounding in person ? just soundwise , not functionality obviously . sounds awesome on TH-cam !

      I've owned various tube amps(currently have a h&k grandmeister 40) and used to own an axe fx standard and played through my buddy's axe fx ultra. I've never played this unit, but I can tell you that I can tell the difference in dynamics and response through the various demos. In mixes, it can sound awesome depending on the person, but you can tell it's digital on solo'd tracks.
      With that said, I used to love my axe fx standard. It was my primary rig for years. It sounded great and could really get close to tube tone and was insanely customizable. Effects were fucking amazing, too. I've never played through an AX8, but badly wanted on for the longest.
      However, while fractal gear is wildly good and will definitely be superior sounding to the ge200(Even though it is an awesome piece of gear especially for its amazing price), there's something very small and subtle that the axe fx was missing from achieving that real tube compression and response. Not that it's awful, and I'm sure the Axe II and III get closer, with more powerful DSPs.
      They are amazing, sound good in mixes, and are just flat out awesome pieces of gear that I'd buy in a heartbeat if I had money like that. But, if price and quality of tone are your primary concerns, I would highly suggest going the tube/cab sim route. Nowadays, lunch box heads are super cheap. Plus, you have the two notes products or the Mooer Radar. Or you can go the tube preamp pedal route. There's a lot of options out there that don't have to cost you an arm and a leg that will sound amazing.
      If you have the money, I'd say screw and grab the Ax8. I probably wouldn't recommend the Helix though. Quality isn't there for the price. Effects sound great, but high gain tones are kinda ass and I'd put that over sweet effects in terms of priority.

      ThursdayMonkey475 .... thank you , awesome reply ! nice to hear from people with actual experience .
      i have an ax8 on order due any day now , it comes with a 15 day return policy , at this point im sure ill return it due to the interface as i don't want to run a pc everytime i use it .
      i was hoping the mooer may suit for so much less money .
      im soley after the 80s boogie mark sounds like old metallica , i want it to sound like that amp in the room with me , so ill plug the ax8 into a real cab & power amp .
      maybe a mark v 25 head would've been better but i think ill take the ax8 to the shop & compare them , i tried the v 25 once & it didn't have enough gain in person , yet on TH-cam clips they scream ....anyway thank you for such a good reply , appreciate it

    • @robertj1303
      @robertj1303 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Axe have moved production of AX8 to China and are not updating it anytime soon and remember it has some serious drawbacks compared to its big brother, single amp etc. I was lucky to see Tom Quayle live using AX8 and Jack Thammarat using Helix and Jack sounded crisper and better. Alex uses a pedal board. I went to the Boss Katana 100 as a practice amp because of the FX in it and ease of use. I have 30 pedals and 5 amps and would get a GE200 and set it up for jam use as you only need to plug it into a PA or a house amp set clean and you will get your sounds. So horses for courses. Its a quarter the price, but with custom IRs from Celestion or Hammer a blind test you would difficulty noticing the difference markably. In some cases I have seen people use this when they thought it was the AX8!!

      I'd probably go for this one for the interface which I'd use live. If it was just a studio machine the hardware would be largely irrelevant as I'd use the GUI and keep the hardware out of the way. They both have their pluses and minuses in the modelling department but I haven't sized them against each other yet.

      I tried to get a Firebox and their shipment is just unacceptable, so if that is the case wonder what happened if it went wrong. GE200 plentiful everywhere and it is a footswitch with multiple presets as opposed to a few. My dealer says the firebox has good models for recording, but for live GE200 is more popular

    Brett, the usual superlative demo and playing :) Interested in this thing, a first for me with Mooer. So, would it be kind of fair to say that this unit might be a good kind of fly-rig alternative to taking my AX8 around when I don't really need to? The build quality itself looks pretty sweet, definitely seems more sturdy than the newish, similar kind of small Boss MFX unit, which is a whole lotta plastic....
    How do you think this little puppy might sound running through something like an HK Grandmeister 40 or other amps instead of just direct?
    cheers and tia

    • @BrettKingman
      @BrettKingman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, a good alternative to the AX8 except you won't have seperate foot control over individual blocks, only whatever you can group into the CTRL/TAP function. If that's not an issue, I think it would be fine. If it was used purely as a multi-effects without the amp and cab sims into an amp I can only guess that it would be fine, but I haven't tried it like that yet so I can't be sure. Best to consult people who are using it that way, I think.

      The Ge-200 at the end it's a totally different kind of beast compared with the AX8 - the AX8 in my opinion has far more options for playing live ...think about the 8 scenes potential with 8 different rig combinations under your foot when the GE-200 might work with just two. Then 200 presets slots against 560. If you like to add new IR that can make a difference. That said, the GE-200 is not a bad pieceof gear at all but keep in mind that its costs is approx 1/4 of the AX8 so there must be a difference somewhere.

      +Giancarlo Paolini Indeed, thanks for replying. Yeah, no way I am thinking this Ge-200 is in the same class as my beloved AX8 :D But again, I'm just kinda thinking of a super-tiny fly rig thing - no muss, no fuss. It does all the basic stuff for sure I would think and the form factor seems ideal. Need to hear this in front of an amp myself though.
      cheers!

    I was hoping someone in Montreal would carry these so I could directly compare it to my Boss GT-1. I was looking for a backup to my GT-1 and was thinking the GE200 might be it. Since I couldn't try one I ended up getting a 2nd GT-1.
    I have to say, though, that the GE200 sounded pretty darn good in your demo, Brett. I've seen many people praise the amp models and take a dump all over the effects in the unit. What's your take?

      My take is, for the money, it's pretty unbeatable. I can't think of much else that offers what this little fella does for US$300 or thereabouts. I'd only ever use basic old-school style effects and there are plenty of adequate ones to be found here. Couple that with a great GUI and the ability to load your own IR's and I have to say it's pretty great.

      Thanks, Brett. I may try to get one of these from an online retailer. Bloody G.A.S. Never satisfied, are we?

    So Brett, this unit only has 3 presets? Twin. Soldano, and little something?

      No. They are the three presets I wrote. There are dozens of factory presets and 200 places to save them.

    Typical BK excellence, but I doubt very much that I can make this sound so good. : (

    Nobody mentiones the fact that this unit can destroy your guitar speakers. When you accidently push the rhytm button the sound wil come in at full level. You cannot store a lower level. After each reboot max. level kicks in!
