    The military uses a 14.5" barrel on the M4 and a 20" on the M16 versions. Both will mount a m9 bayonet. If you plan to use it on a civilian M4 (16") it needs to be the midlength AR or the full size 20" M16A1/A2 style of AR's. So it's not really the barrel length that matters but rather the distance to the flash hider from the front sight/gas block.

    Good review as always Bryan!
    This is a good example of why I don't like serrations. For me serrations just take up perfectly good real estate on the blade and make it LESS effective for survival tasks.

      Shoto Kido Like I've said before, I can take them or leave them but I could definitely leave these. Although I guess t hey would make this a much more effective weapon, as long as you aren't an actual military soldier, since I have learned that serrations are against International Law.

    I have a bayonet on my carbine length AR-15. But I have a bayonet lug adapter so it fits properly.
    I also have an o-ring so my bayonet doesn't rattle at all.
    How you had it mounted it would rattle like crazy.

      He has a Carbine length gas block right? I ordered a 16" Mid length but is has pinned Mid length low profile gas block. Would it be a pain to buy add a A2 front sight and swap? I have few other cool guy mlok ARs and always wanted more traditional look (I think A2 had bayonets)

    I have two of the M7 models with the M8 metal sheath New from WW2 surplus. It is a similarly designed knife with a much narrower spear-point.blade. I intend to adapt them to a shotgun and a 10-22 survival rifle. My knives have straight edges, which is not as versatile as your knife. The up-swept edge is more useful as an all around camp knife and one heck of a defense weapon. Some people will see the round handle as not desirable. But, that is one reason it is a good defense knife. No matter how you have it in hand the guard will protect the hand. In military training the knife is held with the wrist lowered and the blade extended as if pointing. Any other handle has limited ways of positioning. Nice knife. Thanks for sharing this good review.

    For the price of it, I got a Romanian AK bayonet that will do everything this can do and more, and if I wanted a specifically made knife, I would get the Ontario US Air Force Survival knife which is about $45 or so and neither of those are made in China. Would rather have those than this.

      @ninetailsgaming2919 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know I’m late but you should never get the Ontario knife. Unless you’re just using it for light load assignments you shouldn’t trust it with heavy duty cutting or chopping. The handle just falls apart. If you’re not intending on chopping wood with it, I think it’s a pretty ok knife for its price.

  • @mechredd
    @mechredd 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Many people prefer a bayonet to mount to a rifle edge up. If you unscrew the hex bolt on the buttcap the handle will come off easily. There is another smooth round nut with a set of narrow flats that a 7/16 wrench will fit and you can now unscrew it from the blade. It is held on with thread locker though. Once that is off, the guard will come off. Reassemble the bayonet upside down to mount it to a rifle edge up.

    the serrations are good at churning up some shavings for starting a fire. You could use it to notch wood to place a rope/cord and it has a bite so it wont slip or move around. I do prefer it on the back of the knifes spine, so not this particular blade. amazing cardboard cutter too!

      As someone trained in knife combat I'll tell you that when I get issued my kabar usmc fighting knife with a straight edge I'll make it a point to use my serrated. I'm pretty deadly with a knife and even more deadly if the blade doesn't just cut you but rips you as well.

    • @OOTurok
      @OOTurok 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kash7768
      If you actually had "combat training" with knives... you would not ascribe to such myths.
      Serrations on a knife, sword, or spear head, etc. does NOT make the weapon more deadly... "in combat".
      In a melee combat situation... your goal is to kill, or incompacitate your opponent as quickly as possible, to reduce the risk of injury to yourself.
      Serrations on a blade does not achieve this, but instead, slow the cutting stroke through the target, reducing the speed of the weapon & your reaction time.
      There is a reason WHY plain bladed weapons have dominated the battlefield, throughout history.

    • @運命の人Bryan
      @運命の人Bryan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OOTurok serrated blades are more deadly, in fact by a lot. sharpened serrations that follow suit to the edge bevel will in fact do the same amount of damage, if not more, to an opponent when used as a bayonet. they will absolutely not cause any more amount of friction against a human target, and if it does it would be so miniscule that it would be immeasurable and unnoticeable. "plain bladed" weaponry has dominated the battlefield because it is easier to manufacture and a lot more inexpensive than manufacturing added serration patterns of quality design (especially hand forged). in most CQC knife fighting instances, you can bet that around 50% of any training techniques learned will be nullified by the intensity and adrenaline of a true fight or flight response unless you have trained very extensively in active combat situations. and most of the time, there will be no slashes thrown, but more often than not stabbing will predominate the winners usage. a blade with a serrated edge towards the tang/ or hilt will be a lot easier to rip out of somebody if it were to become wedged inside of them. we aren't talking about swords or spears here, he claimed to be well versed in KNIFE CQC.. not medieval or victorian era reenactment. 95% of people who say serrations would have a hard time cutting through a target have never been in instances of actually using a serrated weapon as a defensive tool. we're talking about human flesh here, not a piece of bamboo or a punching bag full of a dense material.

      As a bayonet it can't have a razors edge like a knife would, if it did as soon as you tried to use it as a bayonet the edge would start chipping off in chunks, the angle of the grind on a bayonet is closer to that of an axe, more so than a knife, it's sole purpose is to chop, stab, and slash with the leverage and weight of a rifle behind it. If you want a razors edge, for skinning, feathering, slicing, etc. buy a knife, but if you want the ability to stab, chop and slash while holding a rifle buy a bayonet.

    I reiterate, the serrations are useless. If the blade was SHARP, it would have cut through the paracord like a hot knife through butter. A big knife can be as useful on small stuff as a small knife if it is sharp. I can use my Bowie to skin and gut small game as well as big game. A knife or a bayonet with a knife blade is very versatile if it is sharp enough to shave with.

It works on all of my AR's, but does not fit my M590 ( bought it when I was in the Army back in the 90's) also tried it on a friends M590A1 that he bought last year, same issue, to short. The concept behind is you inflict just enough damage to the enemie soldier to remove him from the battle. So you pierce him, hé can fight any more. Same with full metal jacket bullet, they go thru and not necessarely kill leaving a soldier to be treated by the other army. Dead are fast to take care of but wounded they bog down the rear line. There are a lot of knife brands, why so much Schrade?

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      jwf120 Good question. I have and do test and review other knife brands but it's fair to say that, so far, I have more Schrade reviews than any other single brand. There are 2 main reasons, both of which I pretty much covered in a recent video - th-cam.com/video/8o6l-htoJx8/w-d-xo.html - , so if you want the details please check it out but the short answer is because they send me knives to review and the knives they have sent so far are very good quality but don't cost an arm and a leg. With only a couple of exceptions (and I mean like 2), every other knife, axe or saw I have reviewed has been bought by yours truly. That can get pretty expensive fast so it really helps when a company is willing to devote some of their marketing dollars to send out samples to folks like me.Quite honestly, I would be very glad for other companies to send me gear to review (and a few have) so I can show it to you without going broke. I sincerely want to keep things interesting and helpful to all the folks who have supported this channel. So is it a conflict of interest to review stuff sent to me for free? It could be if I was dishonest and covered up flaws or didn't really put the knives through the tests I do. It definitely could be if the company was paying me (that would also be illegal unless i disclosed that). For the record, no one has ever paid me a penny to review their products. Bottom line, it's really up to you whether you think I'm trustworthy or not.Anyway, I have several non-Schrade review videos coming up soon. Some are already shot and just need editing and a couple will be done after my order comes in. (think TOPS !). But I will also be reviewing Schrade for as long as they want me to unless they really screw up and let their quality start slipping. Based on what I've sen I don't think that is a concern. As a matter of fact I just got 2 very special knives from Schrade today and those videos will be out just as soon as I can get them done because I'm pretty excited about these.So... I hope that answers your question. Did somebody say something about a "short answer" ? ;-)Bryan

    In this day and military age the bayonet is more of a holdover for tradition sake. Using a bayonet on the end of an M-16 to M-4 as a defense of last resort is at best problematic. those serrations do nothing but get in the way. I would give it a 4 out of 10.

    I noticed on your thumb nail, you have a picture of a knock off US military M9, but it is so lose on your AR15. The knife that you show is not a "mil-spec M9" nor is it surplus. It sadly is just a $60.00 glamping knife with a military theme. People just spend the extra $ & buy a "real" M9. You can cut bob-wire with the real military M9. I miss mine from the ARMY. Pretty tacticool I guess. Hey do you think you could get Schrade to send you an Old Timer boot knife for review? I have veen looking at those but I ain't too sure o the sheath, As in if it actually attaches to the inside of a boot. there's more tactical deign looking boot knives but I don't know that ain't my cup of tea. The reason I say this is I had a close combat instructor tell us that you should in a combat zone like say Atlanta, Norfolk, Chicago, etc.. Just kidding I think he said Iraq but HTH combat is HTH combat have 2 boot knives so if you are on your back getting the snot out of you you reach down grab a boot knife and stab the s out of him. I rigged something up but I would like a more attractive gamblers dagger. And a company that happens to send stuff to a youtube channel I watch makes one. But I would like a closer look at the sheath.

      Jake Riethmeier Well, as a matter of fact..... I have a Schrade Boot Knife Review recorded and coming soon. I really like the knife. Mine is a double edged model and it is super sharp and pointy. Clips right on your boot with a nice leather thumb break sheath. However, if you are going to a combat zone like Atlanta, remember: don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

      I prefer to bring a gun and a knife to a gun fight.
      Is it the old timer one with the brass bolsters and sawed scales by chance? That's the one I have been eyeballing. I mean it's a little down the list of stuff to buy. and I have to cool it on my buying stuff.

      I was thinking Kel Tec PF 9... I am saving up cause I don't own a firearm of any type at the moment. For the record I ALWAYS carry OC spray, I mean I been sprayed for training thad man that HURTS. I think OC spray gets a bad rap by dudes like it's a for women product. Police departments carry it. Scenario you see 4 guys beating somebody up, step 1 call the cops step 2 when they see you spray them suckers down. OR shoot 4 unarmed guys and go on trial for murder.

    What is that abomination? It has the blade design of the OKC3S U.S.M.C. bayonet but the original grip design of the older M9 Army bayonet. 🤪

    Sorry, not impress with the bayonet.

    The bayonet cannot be military specification as the Hague Convention bans the issue of serrated blades to armed forces and their use is a war crime. Hence the Glock 78 is military issue, the Glock 81 (serrated) is not.

      The current issue Marine Corps. Bayonet (after which the Shrade is modeled) is serrated.

      I've had it pointed out to me that the USA breaks the Hague Convention in this area. Technically a war crime.

    • @slaeghunder
      @slaeghunder 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume you're talking about Art. 22. (e) "To employ arms, projectiles, or material calculated to cause unnecessary suffering;" of Chapter I of the Hague Convention of 1907?
      I've heard that's been interpreted to include jagged bayonets and lances.
      For it to be a war crime, someone would have to kill someone else with a bayonet, and I haven't heard about too much of that going on. I think the bayonet as a weapon is more or less just a relic of a bygone era, which continues to exist primarily out of nostalgia and for use as a field tool.

    • @noonsight2010
      @noonsight2010 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed. However, the bayonet is still a serious weapon. See the difference between the Glock 78 and 81 models. The first is military issue, the latter is sold purely to the civilian market.
