    Both ring gears are different in a 48re. Dodge made the sun shell thicker so they machined the ring gears on the thrust service and moved the direct drum groove higher. I'm upgrading a 47rh to all 48re. Big learning curve when trying to make 47 and 48 parts work. I have now updated every part possible. The one part you can not upgrade is the park pawl, pawl rod and overdrive ring gear. Those parts require a overdrive housing swap. Wish I could mill out for the rod but no idea what effect it would have. Anyone interested in doing a 47 to 48 upgrade you should first replace all hard parts then order a 48re rebuild kit so you get the fine spline clutchs.

    👍👍The 47 pump is 11 lobe and 48 is 10 I believe, as well...

    Many years ago a fellow form Canada told me that the front pump had more gpm from the larger gears . Its been a long time ago seem like 3.9 to 4.2 or some thing like that but the improved pump is a benifet

    The front planetary ring gear of the gear train has the sun shell thickness difference removed as well...cuz the 48 is thicker obviously.. you'd have to measure it ,....those 47 sun shell sun gear hubs like to crack and twist off...hence the thicker 48 shell...but anyways...good stuff once again Rob👍

    Are the 2wd tail housings the same with 47re and 48re

      Basically yes. Just make to to use the park rod that goes with the case

      Output shaft is the same but the case bushing is bigger in the 48re. The yolks with not inter change on the drive line. I’d have to measure them but it’s about 1/4”

    I'm confused by what you said my buddy rebuilt my transmission had to swap o.d housing mine was cracked but my big park rod won't fit I used a micro camera I'm assuming my pawl is ment for small rod so if I use the 47re rod it'll pop out of park?

    • @CUTTERUPROB
      @CUTTERUPROB  ปีที่แล้ว

      The 48re rod won’t fit in the 47re housing. The 47re rod doesn’t lock the the pawl the whole way.

      @CUTTERUP ROB so what do I do I have a 47re housing with the original pawl in it I don't think I can find a 48re pawl rod spring etc from the casing

    The aluminum carrier I think is in my 47 rh and I was told that they can fail so I don't shock load my transmission . I really like the way you machined the carriers to run bearings . I know that a 48 rh has been built but I bought a rebuilt a g 56 instead

    Is there a difference for PCM or TCM programming?? I have a 99 ram and I believe it had a 48RE Jasper in it when I bought it that was blown and I took it out and no longer have it. Should I put a 47RE or a 48RE back in it???

      Pcm/ tcm in that truck is the same them.
      But you run can a 47re or a 48re. But i believe you have to change the electric stuff would have to be a 47re pre 2000 style. But I would talk with a trans guy to make sure

      Best to ask a trans guy on that. I know some parts that swap over. But not every thing that does or doesn’t

    I was hoping you could help me with my dilemma. I have a 2003 Ram with the Cummins engine and a 47re verified by the VIN number. I purchased a 47re core from a 2001 Cummins truck and I'm wondering if the 2001 in the early 2003 47re are interchangeable ? Please keep in mind my 47re is a very early model in the 2003 trucks

    Question: Does the 46RE,47RE,and 48RE have the same size case? Why I am asking is I have a 46RE behind a 5.2L. Was wondering if a guy could but 48RE internals into a 46RE case? If not what about the 47RE internals into the 46RE case? Eventually I want to make a 5.9L gas stroker(408). Just wondering how to ungrade my 46RE since it is the only case that will fit behind the V8's.

    I’m gonna be swapping my 4wd 5600 for a built auto FMVB, have a full 48re from a 06, 2wd though, have a 47 FMVB. Sounds like I should do a 48 swap and not build a 47?
