Bought my Sharp VZ 2500 from Germany, very good packing but the circuit board and transformer was broken. ' The repairman used super glue and it was a lot of soldering. Bought cassette tape kit and belt also from Germany. I paid 350 e for the boombox total , 150 e for parts and 250 e for repairs. Everything works, good sound and I'm glad that it could be repaired despite transport damage that made it not work, dry plastic and it is over 40 years old. Wish you luck!
Yes the plastics can become brittle with age, although it's always worthwhile getting them back up and running whenever we can - so much of a throwaway society these days. I'm looking forward to getting stuck in - glad you're enjoying the 2500 👍
I had one of those, I painted a tag on the front of it and gave it to my friend, he still has it. Cannot wait to see the inside of this radio. I think I got as far as the speakers maybe, they are in individual compartments. This model is in a pretty cool video - 'gold chains - I come from san francisco'. Its where I first saw it waaaay back. 2001 ish
Thanks for watching. And how cool is it that your friend still has it! Does he still use it? I'll look out for Gold Chains to see if I can spot it - I love checking out old tech in early films and tv 😃👍
Very cool machines. A brilliant portable multi-format unit. The later (VZ2500) had 1 power amp, but the 2000 had separate amps per channel. Looking forward to this one. Thanks for watching 👍
They sure are. They weigh a ton though! Invariably there's something not quite right with them, so I'm looking forward to getting it sorted. Thanks for watching, and please remember to hit the notifications bell for updates!
despite what people say online, these are very easy to work on in my opinion. the record player is one unit that comes out and easy to replace the belts. make sure the replacement belt for the linear tracking motor isn’t too thick, mine wouldn’t spin the pulley until i found out that the replacement belt (from a reputable seller) was way too stiff and thick.
Yes, I'm looking forward to this one. There's always something wrong with these just due to age, so it will be fun to get stuck in. Thanks for watching 👍
@@retro_restos of course! always enjoy seeing what’s coming in to work on. i recently got a very clean sanyo m-x960k (big ben in japan) that just needed some work with the cassette deck. new belts and a good cleaning on the transport and it’s working great! there’s something that’s so therapeutic working on these, even when they give a hard time 😉
Lovely bit of kit there dylan and not cheap either ,im working through a vz3500 at the moment with the same linear turntable what a nightmare. You know when you start something you wish you hadn't.
got one of these (the U.K. version) i'm from the U.S. it's in pieces right next to me.. has been like that for the last year.. it's in really good shape.. but have been procrastinating on putting it back together.. looking forward to your journey on this one.. will help me remember where all the stuff goes lol.. bought 3D printed sliders from Analog Alley on Shapeways.. sadly they are no longer on Shapeways.. to bad too.. as the quality of the sliders are top notch.. subscribed to see when you mess with this beast..
Hello I've got one of these and the record player is intermittent. When it's opened up its got a crack on one of the panels. Which seems to be the problem. Do you know how much a panel is to replace?
Hi and thanks for watching. Like all true boomboxes, these units are decades out of production, so the only way to source replacement parts will be via a donor unit now, I'm afraid.
Love to own one today old tech was simply the best ever
Expensive !!
These are great machines. Heavy as anything though! They do come up for sale occasionally, so keep a look out 😁
Nice! I've got one - yours looks in Ok nick!
Hi, thanks for watching. Great to hear from a fellow owner. Did yours need much work?

@@retro_restosSurprised to see the cassette compartment stilI working, I was also expecting to see the turntable part to work.

@@austinjwb the M-X960 is a proper bruiser. Pretty unique with the sub for all to see! Not many of them about - I've never seen one in the flesh.
@@retro_restos it’s not only tall and wide, but also deep. i may put up a video about it on my channel soon

Thanks for your support - I'm looking forward to getting on with some big Sharp units soon - so stay tuned! 👍
Hope to see it soon
Me too! It will be lovely to get it running nicely and polished up - such a beast 👍

@retro_restos ok thanks the previous owner has glued it
hello mate does it work
Did you say it was raining ☔️
We've had some exceptionally heavy rainstorms this year. I normally like them - but not while I'm trying to film 😃
