Lifelong Cowboys fan (began early 70’s as a kid trying to throw like Staubach): JERRY JONES was, is, and will continue to be the thorn in the carotid for MY TEAM. We will NEVER get back (or even close) as long as he and anyone else in his family that he has “taught” has ANYTHING AT ALL to do with the Main office. PERIOD. He has 100% proven that just because you can AFFORD a Lamborghini…..damn sure doesn’t mean you know how to handle it.
I agree not only was he a super good accurate qb he made sacrifices for the team and put the team first over his own stats. He was a team first QB unlike the ones in this qb league that favor and pampers qb's.
Anybody else find the title confusing? I actually thought this was about Jimmie Johnson and Jerry Jones not getting along with Joe Buck there for a few seconds. I figured it out after re-reading the title a few times.
Jerry jones tried to make a point that he was the important one not Jimmy.. a pissing match that the owner well allways win but hes paid ever since...yeah...your the boss..Jerry. you weite the checks...thats more important for everyone to know than having a winning team.
And Jimmy Johnson had the class to never express any animosity over the situation. He wanted to go boating off the coast of Florida. Right. Instead of going for 3 in a row. Right. That is sportsmanship.
I think that was the excuse because Mr. Ego Jerry Jones basically forced him out and wanted to be GM...while Jimmy Johnson wouldn't accept that. Jimmy wanted control over getting players..and the fishing was just the excuse.
When I was a kid in the 70’s and 80’s, people forgot that Clint Mercheson owned the Dallas Cowboys. He let Tex Schramm run the team, Tom Landry coach the team and Gil Brandt run scouting. All he had to do was sit back and enjoy the winning. Sadly Jerry Jones is the polar opposite. His ego won’t allow him to hire competent people to run the team or hire a real head coach who isn’t a boot licking yes man.
As a cowboy fans, this team will never get back to that era because of Jerry jones. Think of the talent they have had over the years but he controls so much it’s detrimental to the team.
I’ve been a Cowboys fan since the 2nd grade, that year I followed them on their 1991 Super Bowl run and I was hooked. After the last Super Bowl it has been a non-stop rollercoaster of incompetence, underperformance, delusions and disappointment. Nothing will change until Jerry dies.
As much of clown show as it is now, when Jerry does pass away, the real circus begins when Stephen, Jerry Jr, and daughter Carolyn begin fighting for control.
I wasn’t there so I don’t know, but looking back objectively at the cowboys since then, how can anyone, including Troy, think that Jimmy was the or a problem?! My goodness.
Was a season ticket holder and was in the process of renewing for another year when I heard on the radio that Jimmy had moved on. Later in the week they mentioned Jones had actually fired him. Never bought another ticket and now hope they lose every game and have gotten my wishes many times. Who fires a coach that just won two Super Bowls? Only someone who is insane or has an ego problem.
Jerry couldn't handle the fact that Jimmy got all the credit for their success, in his mind he was living in Jimmy's shadow and that will eat up a narcissist like Jerry. And now look at Jerry, 30 years later and he's still getting in the way of the team's success.
The players were loyal and close...Prime defended Troy in public during an interview with Skip Bayless on his book that claimed Troy was gay. The rot starts from the top😢
I thought he was going to reveal the real pivotal point in the collapse of the relationship between Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones . After the second Super Bowl victory, Johnson, and a number of other people were sitting around a table partying and Jerry Jones came up and tried bud in and the people at the table, pretty well ignored Jerry, and made him feel slighted, and so he went to the bar and started drinking, and a reporter was in there, and this was the point where he told the reporter that he was thinking of changing coaches and it escalated from thereafter it got out into the media and when they both got back in Dallas, Jimmy was furious and had a meeting with Jerry and they cemented the resignation
Jerry wouldn’t have never thought about trading Hershel for all those draft picks if it wasn’t for Jimmy. So yea everyone from the espn analysis journalists and even fans were going to give Jimmy the credit for assembling this team. You never hear The Hunt family, The Rooney family or any other owner acting like Jerry has been. Geez Jerry you own the team you hired Jimmy you had to approve of the trade and agree with the players that he drafted, traded or signed so yeah you was getting the credit but not like a coach or a player does. Jerry firing Jimmy prevented this team from possibly becoming like the patriots before the patriots 🤷🏻♂️
Jimmy made all the moves, made all the picks, coached all the players. The two championships are his, his coaches and the players. Jerry Jones was and is a rich guy who picked the right coach. One player kept them from winning it all in 1994. Deion Sanders. They corrected the issue the next year. A cardboard cutout could have won a Superbowl with the 1995 team.
Everyone knows both complemented each other. Belichick was always a defensive coach and not an offensive coach. Brady complimented Belichicks weaknesses.
The cowboys spotted the 49rs 21 quick points in the championship game and but for the pass interference that was NOT called on Dion Sanders when he held Irvins arm down they would have went to three in a row.
0:37 Jimmy: Jerry...if you and your family/team focus on marketing while I continue to promote professionalism, accountable and winning to this franchise...we'll be unstoppable. Jerry: I like that..but do you.know what I like even more...if I bring the media to the locker room, film room and the practice field so they'll know I'm involved in everything which includes coaching. Jimmy: What's wrong with being great with what you know best? Jerry: What I do won't make the front page. You're getting the lion's share of the publicity. I want IN on the action. I want to be talked about. If winning comes.out of it then that's a bonus....but I want to be the face of the Cowboys...the source as to why the team is successful.
Ya let it slip by Jerruh... You an Jimmuh could of done some great things together... a couple more Bowls won... You guys had the best OL in the history of the NFL... Emmitt gets 5 yds a carry before he even gets touched that's how big Larry Allen & Co. would open holes for Emmitt...Oh well... 😏
When people were freezing to death in 2021 in Texas, all Jerry Jones could say was, “we hit the jackpot”, because he was so invested in natural gas the prices of which had gone through the stratosphere.
The only thing that irks me about Troy is when he praises cheat-bags, Belichick & Brady. The Cowboys were an HONEST team that didn't need to cheat. Patriots depended on it. There's no comparison!
As a Australian who likes USA football Dallas in those days were awesome and they would have been up there like the patriots if Johnson had of stayed because Troy Aikman was as good a quarter back if not better than Brady and Emmett was amazing . Still the most enjoyable team I saw playing. 👍

This is coming from a true blue Cowboys fan.....been watching them since Roger Staubach and Drew Pearson and so many other greats. As a little kid, I would cry and be so pissed when the Cowboys lost so know that there isn't a bigger Dallas Cowboy fan than me.....I boycotted the Cowboys in 2008 and vowed to myself that I would NEVER watch them again until Jerry either croaked or sold the team, I saw the destructive behavior of Jerry Jones not knowing when to sit down and stfu and to do what he did when he first bought the team and hired the best effing coach that money could buy and he allowed that coach to do this thing and do what Jimmy Johnson did which was pick undeniable talent and coach. I have sacrificed watching my most favorite sport because Jerry the fool lost his ways in doing what needs to be done by an owner....pick a great coach and allow him to do his thing. Every coach since then has been a yes man with the exception of Bill Parcels which is why he didn't last long either. My biggest wish is for EVERY Cowboy fan to boycott as well, if they did then Jerry would get the hint and sell the team in hopes that a MUCH better owner would buy the team, there are no guarantees of that but ANYTHING is better than a 29 year losing streak!!! But unfortunately too many people are weak and can't sacrifice like I have to try and get our winning tradition back, I don't expect to go to the Superbowl every few years, that would be ridiculous but I sure as hell know we can do better than to go 29 years without a hint of a Superbowl!!! Until then I will continue to boycott until a-hole is dead or sells the team!!!
I agree with Troy. The Cowboys would have been the most feared team in the league for years if Jerry would have limited himself to writing paychecks and let Jimmy do his thing. Alas, that didn't happen.
When Jerry bought the team in 89 they were 3-13 the year before and had only made the playoffs twice in the 80's. Gone was the dominance of the 70's where they made it to the Super Bowl 5 times. They were under significant debt and unlikely to get better quickly. Jones made major changes and the Cowboys were back in the Super Bowl winning in 93, 94, 96. They don't do that without Jerry.
WEIRD ! In the early 90's the Cowboys owned the NFL and were on their way to 6/7 Super Bowls ! The BRUISING steam rolling OL sticks out to me ! This feud is like Al Davis / Marcus Allen monkey wrench to end 80's Raiders Dynasty ! Ego Jealousy !
As far as Troy goes, it really speaks-to the trickiness of a championship. How everything has to fall the right way: Injuries at a minimum (esp season ending), everyone sacrificing (Troy coulda broken every QB records that exists if it was just about Troy). Team before everything. Same with Tom Coughlin's 2008 and 2012 spectacular NYG championships - everyone working together. That's why I get this long stretch by the NYG (some teams have never won it all). I said back then if we never win another Super Bowl - I'll live in happiness remembering THESE two most recent NYG rings. And the next one will be here soon enough, and probably one right after that.
As a 51 year Ram fan, I grew up hating the cowboys. But that was the greatest dynasty ever destroyed by its owner. No way they lose at SF going for a three-peat. They came back from 21-0 down with the clown Switzer on the sideline and then won it all again with Switzer the next year. I understand why Aikman is bitter.
As a non expert football owner. You defer to the expert football coach and let him do his thing. The whole fault for that situation going left, was Jerry Jones. Troy Aikman said the absolute truth. But it is well known. And has been for 3 decades.

It’s a shame how most younger football fans have no idea how great Aikman was.
I agree not only was he a super good accurate qb he made sacrifices for the team and put the team first over his own stats. He was a team first QB unlike the ones in this qb league that favor and pampers qb's.
Niner fan here , thank you Jerry for holding your team down.
"Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones Couldn't Get Along with Joe Buck" I guess Joe Buck was very important for cowboys team chimsitry.
I made a similar comment. Good stuff.
Hell, most idiots today can't spell punctuation, let alone use it.
Yes, very disappointed. I wanted to know what Joe did to make them mad.
Anybody else find the title confusing? I actually thought this was about Jimmie Johnson and Jerry Jones not getting along with Joe Buck there for a few seconds. I figured it out after re-reading the title a few times.
3:09 Robert Kraft doesnt meddle in coaching affairs Troy. You forgot to mention that
Robert Kraft is the owner I wish the cowboys had. You also have to understand that this video is pretty old too.
Jerry jones tried to make a point that he was the important one not Jimmy.. a pissing match that the owner well allways win but hes paid ever since...yeah...your the boss..Jerry. you weite the checks...thats more important for everyone to know than having a winning team.
100% AGREE
And Jimmy Johnson had the class to never express any animosity over the situation. He wanted to go boating off the coast of Florida. Right. Instead of going for 3 in a row. Right. That is sportsmanship.
I think that was the excuse because Mr. Ego Jerry Jones basically forced him out and wanted to be GM...while Jimmy Johnson wouldn't accept that. Jimmy wanted control over getting players..and the fishing was just the excuse.
I clicked on this because I thought the title suggested Jimmy and Jerry couldn't get along with Joe Buck LOLOL
Ha! The headline made me think JOE BUCK was the one they couldn’t get along with! 😂
They would have been tired of winning SB's if only Jerry could see, now look at them😂
EGO was their downfall.
As an Eagles fan, I hope Jerry Jones lives forever!!
“Let’s watch….” (Roll clip, world class offensive line mows everyone out of Emmitt’s way) yup, that’s what I remember about Dallas winning ways.
"Jerry had a rule too... he owned the team."
--Larry Lacewell
Under the curse of Jimmy Johnson.
Yep and he bares the responsibility of his team sucking for over 25 years. It's his responsibility the cowboys are a joke.
Well hiring a guy's ex-College Football Coach that he hated after Jimmy was let go must have Grinded Aikman gears for sure
I find it totally unsurprising that no one has mentioned Switzer here.
Interesting comment about Belichick. Once Belichick lost Brady and went beyond ‘just coaching’ the team went south and hasn’t been the same.
Like Irvin always said Troy is the glue to this team!
Than you. Troy. Thank you. Troy.

Jimmy: Jerry...if you and your family/team focus on marketing while I continue to promote professionalism, accountable and winning to this franchise...we'll be unstoppable.
Larry Allen still the strongest OL ever to play and he played 30 years ago
He could bench 705 lbs.
It's on TH-cam look it up
That title is confusing
Monster Ego's....that's what made them great & made them part ways
Troy will always be one of the best IMO
Success sometimes creates egos
When people were freezing to death in 2021 in Texas, all Jerry Jones could say was, “we hit the jackpot”, because he was so invested in natural gas the prices of which had gone through the stratosphere.
THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW An I formation Pro Set What a Novel Idea 💡 Everyone gets involved Coaches Have to Coach 😊
It’s like this in every walk of life when you get a gold standard team. It’s tough to keep together because of pay scale personal eval and ego. Football bands sales fortune 10 firm
I find it very difficult to believe that Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones didn't get along with Joe Buck. Joe Buck just seemed like the nicest guy
Whatever Troy Aiken anti aging regimen is, I want it
Reportedly; Jimmy hardly ever left the offices when he was leading and coaching the Cowboys…sacrificing his marriage for the team.
I agree with Troy. The Cowboys would have been the most feared team in the league for years if Jerry would have limited himself to writing paychecks and let Jimmy do his thing. Alas, that didn't happen.
This is great
Troy is the man !
Ditka Thought he could win without Buddy Ryan!……….he never did!
Jerry and his EGO !!! He couldnt stand to see Jimmy get the shine ✨ it was killing him to see Jimmy get the pats on the back
Jimmie Johnson is best coach nfl has ever seen. Jerry has deprived us all of more just to be like Mike Brown.
Then they ran into the Vikings buzz saw in 98 on Thanksgiving.. Also, Tom Brady and Bill Bilichick say, hold my beer.. :)
Aikman seems to focus on the what could’ve been instead of his actual accomplishments. That’s wild.
Damn!!! I MISS those days. I am increasingly hating Jerry Jones for ruining my teams history!!
Joe Buck's the same way - he'll sacrifice self for the good of the
broadcast, on air partner, always respect Joe so much.
Jimmy keeps his boat down in the Keys. I wonder how much time he spent fishing when he was coaching the Dolphins?
As a 51 year Ram fan, I grew up hating the cowboys. But that was the greatest dynasty ever destroyed by its owner. No way they lose at SF going for a three-peat. They came back from 21-0 down with the clown Switzer on the sideline and then won it all again with Switzer the next year. I understand why Aikman is bitter.
I think two key ingredients to their success that the Cowboys lost were coach Jimmy Johnson and receiver Alvin Harper.
As a non expert football owner. You defer to the expert football coach and let him do his thing. The whole fault for that situation going left, was Jerry Jones.
Troy Aikman said the absolute truth. But it is well known. And has been for 3 decades.
Grammatically incorrect title.
Right? It reads like they couldn't get along with Buck. 😅
