Phil survived that, but almost 2 years after this interview he didn’t make it after the stroke surgery.. what a great and good sense of humor down to earth guy Rip Phil
Such a loss! What a charachter this man was! Looked so tough on the outside but definitely showed it's good heart on many occasions! A great dad passed away..... My deepest condolances to the family and all his friends and crew! A deep bow to a great Crab fisherman! Rest in Peace, Holland
My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Capt Phil at the boat show in San Diego in July 2007 and at the Del Mar Boat Show March 2008. Phil is a fantistic guy who cares about his crew as an individual who the youg people of today should look up to. He knows what it is to work for a living
the warrior of the sea will be missed.... Phill you made a good impact on a lot of peoples lives around the world, my dad included... We are huge fans of you and your crew. always pulling for the Cornila Marie to come in first in every crab count... and in your memory...this will not change.... see you on the flip side!!!
Amazing to hear him talk about how he almost died. Even weirder to hear Keith say "I'm guessing we're gonna almost see Phil almost kick the bucket." And a year after this interview, he's actually dead. Weird.
Phil, we will all miss you. To Jake & Josh, you guys are great and you have my sympathy in this time of sorrow. I can only wish I had a DAD like that. Keep his legacy alive and take over that boat. GOOD LUCK.
R.I.P Phil Harris. We indeed were treated on a rerun of the episode where Phil tries to trick his son when he is throwing the hook. You can hear his pride when he discovers his son can throw the hook over distance. A proud man, a great fisherman. He found his Fiddler's Green now.
Wow Captain Phil was and still is the Crab King ( now in spirit ) Bless Jake and Josh and your family. RIP Captain Phil Thanks for all you've done for us!
Regardless of Phil's lifestyle choices (smoking and whatnot) he was still a good father to his sons and a great Captain. It's a sad loss. Sure, it might have been prevented if he would have made better choices but that doesn't make it any less sad. Phil was an awesome man and he will be missed.
@enazatol they do fish in the summer as well and are gone from the families for months at a time. they still have to prep the boat and worry about maintaining the engine
I don't think it's as much the general interest in what crab fishing is all about, as much as what kind of people do it....the human interest part of it. It's fascinating to the rest of us, who don't do this kind of dangerous work, to see other human beings braving such conditions and living life on the edge. I think this is what makes this show so popular and the guys doing it so interesting and attractive.
No, I think he broke ribs in the triple convergence storm. He still was dedicated, saying he's in the middle of a trip, even though he was near St. Paul Island.
Rest in Peace buddy You will be missed not alone by your Family. And up there he is waiting for you, the Lord was also a fisherman. From Germany Gerrit Jansen Bad Oldesloe
@dothisdothat321 i read that his stroke came from a blood clot that formed in his lungs. The blood clot formed because his ribs were broken from a rogue wave that hit the boat and threw him across the room. That's what i read, at least...
It just goes to show you have resilient the human body is, Phil smoked 9 and 1/2 packs of cigarettes a day, 20 cigs per pack, times 9 and 1/2, that's 190 cigarettes a day. Holy Cow!!!!
After season4,I (and many people, maybe)really worried his health, and used to scream"went to fish!?"or like that..I have very complicated feeling,53years old is still young,Should I keep my mind inside, and say"It was his choice"? --No regret,Captain?---I hope so,and now, please rest in peace.
Gosh Phil! PLEASE start using Nicorette! We want you around for a LONG LONG time! And an ice-cold Coca-Cola (particuarly, if you can get it, the Mexican-made type that comes in bottles and that has real cane sugar) beats a Red Bull ANY DAY! Calm seas and full pots to you all!
I'd more than happy accept an invitation as a deckhand on one of those ships. But there's a long way there, specially if you don't have any experience like myself. There's so much things you can do to earn money, and this is the ultimate way imo... Maybe I'll visit Dutch Harbor sometime, too bad I live in Sweden. Well, one year left on studies then I can do whatever I want... But lets face it, I'll never be a crab fisherman... I just wish.
Phil was my favorite captain on Deadliest Catch.
Rest in peace man.
You gay?
Phil survived that, but almost 2 years after this interview he didn’t make it after the stroke surgery.. what a great and good sense of humor down to earth guy Rip Phil
I think he had another blood clot issue after the surgery and that's why he passed.
Thanks a lot captain .......we miss u .....rest in peace
