For anyone with this specific engine, I've completed used oil analysis several times with Pennzoil Ultra 5w20 using the Maintenance Minder, averaging 7500 miles with absolutely superb wear numbers. The first time I switched to this oil I did have to add some makeup oil, but the last 4 oil changes, very little to none needed. I'm using either Purolator classics or Mobil 1 filters. I switched to Fram Synthetic on this current fill to see if there's going to be even better numbers next time. Blackstone recommended I could go another 1000-2500 miles beyond 7500 on this particular oil but I'm sticking to the Maintenance Minder, changing at 15%.
I sure wish some other channels would give the torque specs and specifics such as you do!! Great job as always Dave! Great tip on puncturing the oil filters for draining!
Always find Big Dog videos to be very, very good. Thanks much. Did my trans drain and fill. Does save $. Getting more confident.
Where has this channel been? So much useful info. I’ve had my Honda Accord 09 since it was new and this channel would have made my life a lot easier. Thank you.
Miles, this is an excellent go-to channel concerning Honda Accords. This is the one I check out whenever I need to do something on my ‘12 Accord. 😊
Big 🐕 on point as usual, torque specs, safety hints & added tips TY!
Thank you for the comment!!
always nice to see you upload - your videos are very helpful. I bought a 2006 Element last year, and it's been fun to work on it myself
Another satisfying video. Job well done sir
Well said very informative
Very Good video !! Big Dog Thank you.
Thanks for the comment!
awesome video indeed!
You are the Best sr
Thanks!
Greetings from Pennsylvania! I've learned the proper way of installing a new Honda crush washer from you and I've been doing it that way ever since. Where did you get the Honda A01 filter by Filtech? I recently got some RTA-003's but all ai van find now are A02's. More power to you and God bless! 🙂
Thanks for the video and for the tip of checking the oil. Does that 3 minutes apply to all Honda’s?
Please do a video on how to tighten the parking brake on this car. 🤙🏼
Was there a reason you didn't pre fill the oil filter before installing it? I know it takes about 0.2 qts of oil, and since it goes on vertically, I always fill it up so I can just use 4 qts even in the engine so it doesn't run dry when the oil pump starts.
a lot of towns have oil recycling areas for free and you can drop off the oil filter
what is engine overhaul??why does it take more than normal which is 4.4 quartz

Is it ok if I use 0/20 instead of 5/20 I thought I had 5/20 I got home it’s 0/20 want to make sure it’s ok to use the 0/20 my cap says 5/20
so a honda takes 4.2 quartz of oil is that right??
Looking a buying a 2012 Accord EX-L 4Cy Automatic. What potential issues should I look for, if any. Thank you!
Mine was bought new off the lot, has 178.8k miles. Just regular oil changes at 5k intervals, transmission fluid changes every two years and changed out spark plugs @100k miles myself. Recently just had engine mounts replaced, both CV axle rebuilt & new struts. That's it, a very reliable engine. I'm hoping it gets me to 300k miles without any major fixes 🤞
What state are you in?
I have a 17 mm Shallow Socket, 3/8-Inch Drive. It seems to big ?
It may have been swapped out for an aftermarket one (typically after they have been stripped out), but Honda drain plugs for those Accords take a 17mm socket.
What AC did you install in your garage, please? How does it exhaust and get intake air? What model AC?
It's a mini-split or ductless system, works similar to a conventional A/C system but no duct work and much more efficient. The compressor is outside and the refrigerant lines run to the unit through the wall. Also has heat for winter.
@@BigDog50001 thanks so much! Do you mind giving me the manufacturer and model number. I was thinking of getting one for my 12X16 workshop she’d I am having built next year? Do you think it would cool it down here in SA TX?
Do you prefer the high mileage version of synthetic oil?
I typically use high mileage full synthetic oil on vehicles with over 100k miles.
THAT CAR TAKES SAE 5w-20. Unless it’s the v6 model which is a 3.5L
