Thomas, seriously thank you for the update of the laptop. I watched the first video and was so invested because of the laptop, but i still kept on doing my research on which laptop to buy. However, I have never let go of the XPS. so earlier today i've finally decided to buy it. BUT you just premiered this video and dudeeeee my heart dropped, i thought sth might've went wrong and you even had the X tapped on the laptop broooooo u scared me. Anyways im just so grateful for your reviews and helpful info. the fact that you are helping us by just trying to figure things out is just so trustworthy. Thank you for real Thomas.
I have pretty much the same model as you, bought it like 3 months ago. I wanted something with great specs and amazing design and at first I was very worried if I made the right decision because many people have experienced some issues with it, but I find it really great so far.

Hey to be honest I have had so many issues with this laptop, I have had it for 2 and a half year and I study architecture as well. In the beginning I had many issue with cad and Adobe, then starting having issues with Wi-Fi, this issue has now gotten worst, as I don’t have Wi-Fi for more then half and hour and then need to troubleshoot. As for charging you have to be careful it cant be shut down and charging as it overheats. I don’t know wether I got a bad one but I think these issue are a bit ridiculous for the price of the laptop.
@@Franchely_6824 i have been using a MacBook Pro from work for the last couple of months and have actually just bought one myself, and all the architects at the practice I work at recommend a Mac and have them
Wow this isn’t good! I’m not sure if this is a Dell problem or whether you have a faulty laptop. I have had a few problems with wifi but my wifi occasionally goes down anyway so i’m not sure if it’s an issue with my laptop but potentially it is if you have experienced something similar. Thank you for your comment 👏🏼
@@ThomasRowntree yeahhh, I've had really bad experiences with the Killer wifi cards they use in the past. Both previous xps laptops I've owned I've had to swap out for an Intel card and that's fixed all issues. Idk about current killer cards...
Please, can you make a video review of how your DELL XPS has been going after two years? I'm finishing my degree in architecture and I want to buy this laptop. Greetings from Costa Rica!
Hey, loved your review. I’m also thinking to get this model, just wanted to recheck something, does this laptop overheat/get hot quickly while modelling or rendering? If so, can you advice some solutions to that? Thanx)
thank you for this review but some people say that they had problems with buttery life the buttery stay for just 2 hours is that true? I hope to answer
Aren't you concerned by the lack of a proper sleep mode with Dells? I like having instant on, and the only way to get that is with sleep mode, but a lot of times if you close the lid and put it to sleep, you'll come back and the fans will be roaring and the laptop will be blazing hot. I don't know why the XPS line doesn't have a proper sleep mode.
Hey! I am thinking about getting a new laptop for my brother. He is a civil engineer and will probably use AutoCAD Civil a lot with little to no gaming. I am confused between Zephyrus g14 (6700S graphics) and Dell Xps 15 (RTX 3050). Which one should I get and are there better options for that price? (US$ 1700) Would appreciate recommendations.
intel and nvidia laptops are better for civil engg. if he is more into 3d rendering and simulation, choose a better graphics card for 1700$, you can purchase a rtx 3070 which is 100% faster than rtx 3050. lenovo legion slim, is better .ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15,m16.
Hi thank you so much for the review! I wonder how is your experience rendering with Lumion on XPS 15? I am planning to sell my PC which I use to do rendering works with Lumion and change it to this considering the portability. Thank you!
I haven’t yet rendered using Lumion yet so I can’t judge! Maybe there is someone on the internet who has tried lumion on it, I simply can’t afford the program
Hi Thomas! I will be studying interior architecture this year. But I have some concerns in buying a computer. Can the Macbook Pro M1 MAX processor meet my needs? Any problems running some architecture programs? Some people say it doesn't run 3ds Max. Will many programs like this be compatible with macbook pro this year? I definitely want to use the computer for 5 and 5+ years. Thanks for your answer in advance.
M1 chips don’t run rhino or most of these architectural programmes natively, so you’ll have to use initiation softwares. Basically, you won’t be able to use the full power of the M1 as these programmes aren’t optimised for it. I’d wait for another 2-3 years before buying into M1 chipsets for architecture
Thanks for the video!! Something that worries me a lot is that the laptop gets hot Have you felt that your laptop got hot? I think it's normal for it to get hot with a long time of use but I don't think it should get hot with a few hours of use Once again, thank you very much and if you could please tell me how was your experience with that topic
Some of the more technical reviews of the XPS15 show that it can easily overheat to the point that the CPU needs to throttle back from full power after a minute or two if you're having it do something that is really taxing, so that is apparently a weakness of the XPS15 (according to other reviewers) and is counter to the reason for getting a higher performance laptop like this. On the latest versions, I've seen reviews taking them apart vs the XPS17 or XPS13+ with the reviewer indicating that the XPS15 doesn't have that great a cooling arrangement vs it's siblings. I used to lug around a 17" and never again, even if it's light, and a 13" is too small for me to use the screen properly for my work, so I'm after a new 15.6" too, preferably a 16:10 ratio one like the XPS15. Just ordered my XPS15 (12th gen) and will be using it mostly on a raised and vented steel mesh laptop stand in an air conditioned office which should help with heat dissipation. From what I've seen, I would not recommend using it flat on the desk if you're going to really be making it work for extended periods. As one reviewer put it, it was too hot to be comfortable on his lap.
