This Timelapse / Drivelapse Route 66 video shows my road trip down the entire length of Route 66 (The Mother Road) from Chicago to Los Angeles in August 2012. When given an option for which time era of the road to travel we picked the oldest parts of Route 66 (pre-1937, pre-1928 etc).

So Cool. I remember as a kid, making many trips with my parents from Kansas to Los Angeles on Route 66 when it was the only road. When I was in college, I worked in LA in the summers...best memories in the world, being single and driving my Corvette back and forth on Route 66. When I drive the 40 today, I get back on the "Mother Road" and for a while I'm back in some of the best memories of my life. Thanks for taking me back.

If You roll the down the 66, you gotta do it in spirit of those before us. You gotta do it in an old school chevy or ford, roll that drivers' side window all the way down, throw that left arm out there and let it hang all on the side like, then whip that badd boy with your right hand all the way to californie while blasting some doo woop or motown as loud as you can stand it.

I did it in my late model Mustang convertible, for one or two people that's the best modern car for the job. Of course my first choice is a 1951 Studebaker Commander convertible. (bulletnose with Studebaker's first V8).

Recently (Sept/Oct 2013) drove Route 66 in reverse from LA to Chicago through the eight states including the 13 miles in south-east Kansas. Great trip. Williams, Oatman, Santa Fe, and Carthage were all standout places. Also did a detour to Monument Valley on the Arizona/Utah border. Incredible scenery. Highly recommended.

Did a partial trace from Springfield, MO to Santa Monica, CA and literally ended up in a field a one point in TX. Road went from paved, to gravel, to dirt, to nothing. luckily my sat nav thought I was still on a road; my car was able to handle to terrain; and we came upon an unlocked fence. Otherwise, we would have been back tracking like two hours. Hell of a trip. Would love to do the whole thing one day. unfortunately, just like in this video much simply doesn't exist anymore or the dead ends cause a lot of back tracking.

Very nice video, i always wanted to do the whole route, however due to the limited time of my vacation, i only did twice from Kingman to Santa Monica, i wil be much appreciated if you could extend this video to may be 20mins?

I wish it would take 3 minutes and 28 seconds to drive from Chicago to LA instead of 1 day 5 hrs then again the whole point of taking Route 66 is from all the tourist sites and sightseeing
