Headlight pro, your right those OEM light assemblies are very expensive, that’s why your the pro, I’ve learned allot watching your videos and look forward to more, thanks Don.
Yes sir these are just a hair above average but for the newer vehicles 2015 and up they're extremely expensive and this is about around how much they cost on any given vehicle especially high end..
I always check oem replacement cost before quote (I either have it from prior quote or call to get it and add to my database) and quote with pitch that includes savings of xx% (goal of 85-90%) vs replacement cost. Great vid - AGAIN 👍🙏
So in between the final polish and spraying the clear coat don't you need to get all of the polish 100% off before spraying clear? What do you use, water? , rubbing alcohol?
You don't want to use any of these adulterates you will mess your headlights up one way or another it definitely mess your clarity up.. you watching these videos because my product looks a lot better than other people's in this is the reason why one of them at least... If you want more information about that watch this video.. th-cam.com/video/LC4ZBu02JZg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FCpP1nN6jYWFEuSf
My 1996 bmw 325i was bought for around $1500 from a friend's brother in 2007 or 2008. The front blinker light was hanging out due to an accident before I bought it and that alone was 50 bucks I think. They weren't even oem. Talk about expensive for no reason.
I had a 2011 Honda civic and dealership wanted $1,400 for OEM lights and $400 for labor. At the end of the day all lights are the same 2 pieces , plastic on backside and a clear polycarbonate on front and they are glued together. They aren't made from any type of special materials but the OEM are a higher quality polycarbonate and more clearcoat
Great video I’ve been charging a blanket charge of $120 but this video has really made me reconsider and the more I think about it to be fare to myself and the customer I should be charging a percentage of new headlights and labor. If you go to a mechanic to get work done they don’t give a blanket charge on everything they do so why should we. I don’t know but it’s just my thoughts
Exactly I don't charge a blanket charge because there's too many variabilities... I have a price range and then I have and always will remain above that price range as a possibility.. we approach it in that situation you can fluctuate your charges as much as possible because not all headlights are the same.. this makes it fair for the people who have easy lights as well.. like I said on the video can't do it all Civic for the same price as a Ferrari there's different variations, different decorations of the headlight, sometimes people paint the headlights or do something crazy there's just way too many variabilities each time you go to a job even crazy shapes that are 10 times harder than a regular light.... We got to learn to be flexible and adjust what you feel the worth of the work is on the headlight...
The problem with using the price of a headlight assembly as the basis for restoration price is that sometimes the price of the headlight assembly is just over-inflated. For instance, as I mentioned in a prior video comment section my BMW i3's headlight assembly is $1700 even though the car itself has a value of $4000-9000. I bought the car for $3000 so I would be really upset if I was charged extra because the part market is so predatory.
Yeah but what happens when you mess up or something happens???? Exactly you're going to pay that price for those headlights because that's what you messed up....💯 I don't charge a crazy amount more but I don't change the same for sure.... Liability is liability all the things that you say really don't matter when it comes down to it if you damage or mess up one of those lines cuz you're going to be paying full price with labor to get them in...
I followed the process. However, on the first attempt, I ended up with what appears as ghosting lines in some areas. Not terrible... but can be improved. Any ideas as to what went wrong? Im thinking it was in the buffing process. I used a new bottle of the Maguire's PlastX from Amazon. It doesn't say 'new', though it could be.
Yeah I'm not sure you're going to have to evaluate yourself to see if you did everything that I do in the process and really be true to yourself because obviously something must have been wrong or went wrong... All you can do is try it again see what happens...
have followed you for ages and thought id give my mitsubishi evo headlights a refresh. they came out spot on but i have noticed that any touching of the lense after coating scatches. my finger, micro fibre towel, sponge. it all leaves micro swirl marks. the lenses were left to dry for a week b4 going back to them. so when light shines through all u see is swirl markes. which was the original problem i had and why they were re coated. thanks steve uk
I don't know what to tell you you might have done something wrong whether it's double coating or something or other if you see swirls or scratches or something like that it's probably underneath the coating you might not have done a thorough job or had too much pressure when sanding.. you have to evaluate yourself if you did everything that I do 100%.. and use everything that I used one little variation makes a huge difference in outcome.. Because this product does harden and this typically won't happen unless you're trying to make it happen.... So I would just leave evaluate exactly what you did because I definitely don't have this issue..
Do me a favor Headlight Restoration Pro, For over 4 decades I have been a cologne and jewelry aficionado and your wristwatch is awesome, with all due respect, can you put up the link to your watch ?? That wristwatch is Awesome !!!
There's really no link I can give you it's about a five-year-old watch ⌚ about $500(new) So I'm sure they don't sell it anymore it's a Bulova gold face with diamond bezel.....

02:50 - Yeap! I was a moron and made that mistake years ago on an ‘05 Camry…. Her lights turned into fish tanks after 7-8 months… it’s like they used little to no glue to seal them…
It is a valuable business where you can save somebody roughly $3,400 on a job like this... I mean literally you charge a couple hundred bucks or whatever you charge versus how much would it cost to get these lights in brand new and they still look brand new once the headlight restoration is done and in some cases are better.... It's an amazing deal that's most needed and the Auto industry...

So are you giving quotes based on 10-15% of oem replacement cost?
@itsandrew8758 no .. I don't discuss that is irrelevant but no.
I did my girlfriends Cadillac SRX headlights not too long ago and they turned out pretty awesome!

Yeah it's crazy how expensive they get....

Holy cow! That's more than the 2003 Honda Civic hybrid I'm driving currently! Hahahahah.

OEM or nothing. We all know someone who tried getting around that. Restoring headlights us a valuable business, and this is precisely why!
