Great vid. They both sound great to me. I finally got to play the regular telecaster. I was immediately in love. I did end up buying the the deluxe mostly because of the belly cutaway. Much more comfortable for me. I play 95% of the time sitting down or leaned back on the couch so there's no digging into my rib cage. When I got it I swear it was like Fender built this thing around me, just for me. The neck is amazing. I have 10 other high end guitars and this is the first one I grab. Don't take my word for it. Play one. For me I like the sound equally, just a little different. Comfort rules hands down. For me the original feels just like it looks. Cut out on a band saw, hit with some 80 grit just long enough to take the splinters off. No style rib killer. This is my first telecaster so my opinions don't mean s**t. Anyone will be happy with either.
Great comparison video, transitioning seamlessly from one guitar to to another using the same settings and playing the same riffs make it really easy to hear the difference! 👍👍👍👏👏👏 Both great in my view and nicely different.🎶
He definitely needed to adjust the amp tone for the Deluxe. As it was set properly for the Standard, He needed to reduce the bass and mids for the Shawbucker. Then you would have a more honest comparison.
The shaw buckers almost sound muted. But I feel like the amp is set for a single coil sound. Teles are usually bright so I could see you trimming the treble for that but it wouldn't help the shaw buckers at all
Nice comparison. Of course, if you owned the deluxe, you'd probably eq the amp brighter. I suspect that in that if you did that, these would be closer than you might think.
Just got the "regular" American pro Tele in white with rosewood. Such a great piece! Sadly the shop didn't have the shawbuckers for me to try out, but damn good thing because it would have made things a lot harder judging from what this video's showing. Lol Great video and great comparison!
This is the most helpful video for people debating between these two guitars. Really truly shows the tonal differences. When this new tele deluxe came out i fell in love with how it looked and all the early youtube videos made it sound great but they had drive on. Went to a store and found it just wasnt for me as it lacked clarity. It was too warm for what i wanted. Ended up getting a strat pro. Sounds great but I want to break it because of all the fret buzz. Two professional set ups so far and i still have buzz.
I just picked up a Limited Edition Professional Tele with a Shawbucker in the neck position (butterscotch blonde). My first Professional. In love with the neck, and the pickup combo is fantastic. The two pickups are very well balanced. The Shawbuckers are like a vintage humbucker. Not so thick and overpowering like many of today's humbuckers. More like Gibson's Burstbucker which has a lower output. Definitely more my taste for a humbucker. Anyway, that guitar has me thinking pretty strongly about a Deluxe. I have a few American Standards (love them to death), and though the classic Tele is my favorite Tele, a Deluxe might be just the ticket for something a bit different. Thanks for the comparison review. Very well done. Playing precisely the same thing, one guitar after the other, is definitely very helpful. Thank you.

If you want a Telecaster you get the professional, if you want a brighter humbucking guitar that has the fender chime you get the deluxe they're both great guitar.
Not one is better than the other, it depends what tones you're going for. Single coils absolutely have more clarity but that's why you would choose that guitar vs one with beefy HB's. I love both sounds and they are both great for where you would use them.
I hear the same thing, but I suspect that if you or I owned this guitar, we'd brighten up the amp! I think they could make these sound a lot more similar than this video suggests.
Luke Hannington Yes the Deluxe could be brightened, or the regular dulled I suppose, but the point was that in a comparison between the pair on the same amp settings, the pickups of the regular pro are naturally brighter sounding and therefore my preference.
I have an American Special Tele and don't want to give it up, since I love its sound. Now, if I were to get an American Pro with Shawbuckers, would I be getting the sound I have now PLUS added versatility re: sound, or are the Shawbuckers incapable of replicating the standard Tele sound? I want both of course, but can only afford one. I have an opportunity to trade mine it at cost and invest in the deluxe w shawbuckers (just within 30 day return, so I get full purchase price if I act fast). Anyone with advice? Thank you!
To me, the regular AmPro Tele sounds better than the Deluxe. But I think the outgoing American Standard with the Twisted Tele neck, and Broadcaster bridge pickups still sounds even better, they should have kept that set.
This kind of comparations are very helpful to make decisions but in this case as owner of a Tele Shawbucker i have to say that my Tele sounds much better/clearer than this video otherwise the normal tele sounds very good as well
How can you compare two different guitars? One with single p/u ant the other with wide range humb p/u. This is as if you were testing Fender Stratocaster and Les Paul.

I think that’s the point. If it did it wouldn’t be different and it would be a typical tele. I personally like both, but I got the deluxe because I like the fuller less twangy sound, but like the tele design. I also got mine in sonic grey. It’s a killer guitar. Try one sometime. I think you’ll like it.

Why is it that everyone that tries a tele only plays country? It gets old pretty quick show other styles. Does it sound good dirty? Crunchy? Nobody knows because even when using humbuckers we still have to listen to the same style of music. And whomever answers this saying that that is the style of that guitar, because a guitar that has only one trick is a useless guitar.

I really want to like the Shawbucker Deluxe, and I do, but it doesn't sound nearly as good to my ears as the standard pro.
A humbucker Tele just defeats the point of a Tele

You don’t get a Tele Deluxe because you want a Telecaster. You get a Tele Deluxe because you want Fender’s version of a Les Paul.

Both guirars are great but I rather the single coil for telecaster instead humbucker for Telecaster.

Prefer the single coil Tele sound and tone.
Much prefer the regular Tele in all positions which has more clarity to my ears... the Deluxe sounds muffled by comparison.
