    This guitar is so inspiring to play because it isn’t really “like” anything else. It’s not a thick, chunky typical dual humbucker sound, nor is it the iconic twangy/bell-like sound. All of those lead me down well-trodden pathways in my playing. This guitar is almost like a palate cleanser from those sounds that tempt me to play my same old noodly Les-pauly or Tele-ish licks, and I make more actual MUSIC.

      @Luke its looks stunning in person! Feels amazing to play, the neck is unreal!
      The pickups are the best ive played, the pots are epic, can get so many tones with just the volume and tone controls on the guitar. Got mine set perfect with my amp(vox ac15c1 with green backs), bridge pup volume at six gives a lovely clean sound, 8 crunch and when you dig in it breaks up lovely, volume at 10 and it takes of like youve hit a boost pedal. The neck pickup is super creamy for blues. The dynamics of the pups are amazing. Easily my number one guitar! Defo would recommend one, impossible to be disappointed pal!!

    I absolutely love this guitar just got one in Mercury its in my profile circle and I have played it constantly. I still love my Lone Star Strat with Texas Specials and a maple neck but this is a different level .Its not like a traditional Tele at all . Attitude for days and just absolutely blisters thru my Nobles ODR1. If you're thinking about getting one do it .Seriously badass instrument.

    Excellent review my friend, I agree on the strings to a certain point. I personally love 10's but on a couple of guitars, the other 3 guitars sound and feel amazing with 9's. And when playing them, you of course have to have a lighter touch/approach...
    I tried stringing them up with 10's, but they simply didn't sound as well and the feel was strange. So, I FINALLY gave in and accepted to playing 9's & 10's. It seems that every guitar is just a world, I only have five, which is more than enough for me, but they are sooo different from each other. In 1979, I bought a USA Fender telecaster in black with maple neck and loved it, with single pickups.
    The one you review with humbuckers and big headstock seems like a dream :-)

    When it comes to string gauges, and preference, you like what you like and there is no wrong, but I’ve come to really enjoy some light .08-.38 or .40. strings. I found there is a cutting quality to the sound. And I’m not squeezing the heck out of my neck as much.
    Also, that’s a handsome guitar, even if I’m not totally in love with the blue into black, but imagine if the headstock matched the body.

    Your point about the strings is a good one - it's definitely partly the 'showroom' aspect so the guitars feel good instantly as it will make the instrument feel 'slicker' and people are way less sensitive to having too light a string set vs too heavy (light is only inconvenient, whereas heavy with its extra tension would make it feel difficult to play for some people who aren't used to that), but I wonder too if maybe it's partly shipping/transit issues (ie less tension on necks, etc leads to less sensitivity to heat changes and also fewer incidents of damage).
    Everybody has their preferences though, and certainly on humbuckers Ive often found 10s seem to sound a bit better.

    • @davidburke2132
      @davidburke2132 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be fair for some people lighter strings than they’re used to can be equally difficult. This is most usually felt in the sense of pushing chords etc. slightly out of tune but whether you actually notice this or not depends on how good your ears are, and I suspect that from what I’ve heard of people demoing guitars in stores lots of guitarists aren’t as sensitive as they should be to being out of tune! 😜

    I much prefer your Les Paul style guitar because it's a thicker sound and it has more umphh to it, if you know what i mean. Altough I can see why someone go for the tele. It has more clarity and it's really like a thick single coil without the hum rather than a humbucker. Love the little QOTSA nugget at the end. 😉

    If you put 11s stock on a guitar you have to route the nut for 11s strings. If you pass from 9s to 11s you ca always enlarge de slots, from 11s to 9s you have to change nut.
    Beside not every one can fisically bend or enjoy an 11s gauged string set but almost every one can enjoy a guitar with 9s. So is a better choiche to put smallesr strings in a guitar that you have to sell in a store.

    I thought they were Wide Range humbuckers but they look smaller.
    The vintage wide range humbuckers are actually closser to "P90 humbuckers" with magnet rods and wide bobins, but the modern Wide Range are actually humbucker in disguise, a traditional humbucker construction with an alnico magnet underneath and standard size bobins (because I had a 72's classic reissue before).

    • @OzziePete1
      @OzziePete1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OK in recent past, the name "Wide Range Humbucker" has been given to any Fender humbucker that has the split design polepieces.
      The original Wide Range Humbuckers of the 1970s were very different to the humbuckers we know today. Their pole pieces were the actual magnet and because the magnets had to be machined with a thread to screw into position, Seth Lover had to use a harder magnetic material : CuNiFe instead of Alnico. Fender also used full sized bobbins x 2 instead of smaller sized bobbins like Gibson used. That created a larger pickup and Fender used 4 mounting screws instead of 2. All these changes made a different sounding pickup response.
      Following CBS' sale of Fender to the Schultz syndicate, the Wide Range Humbucker had stopped being made by Fender.
      When demand called for a 70s type sound, Fender instead used an OEM pickup they bought bulk. It was essentially a stock design humbucker made with a split polepiece design. These "wide range" pickups were closer sounding to Gibson humbuckers and the same size as them. Only difference was the 3 screws mounting the pickup instead of Gibson's 2.
      Only just this past year has Fender actually got around to sourcing a bulk supply of CuNiFe and redoing the Wide Range Humbucker properly, and of course, they are the bigger size again. These can be found on the Fender 70s Original guitars & priced accordingly.
      These American Pro II guitars use the humbucker standard-sized split polepiece design. They also employ other modern aspects of Fender guitar design too. If you want the CuNiFe Wide Range humbuckers buy a 70s Original instead.

      @rolanddeschain2120 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The magnets for WR pickups are CuNiFe pole magnets and the sourcing became too rare and expensive which ended production. Fender has now sourced material and you can buy them for 199.99 right now. The pickups in this guitar are Tim Shaw double tap humbuckers. They are the same as pretty much all "boutique" pickups where it is just aesthetics outside, bar magnet humbucker inside, like the '72 reissue you mention.

    • @sunlesseffects
      @sunlesseffects 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rolanddeschain2120 yup, I already know all of that.

    Idea for a video: With your massive guitar collection, could you do a comparison video for all types of pickups? Single coil, JM, mini humbucker, humbucker, etc.? Or maybe a full song with different guitar parts where you describe which guitar is best for certain parts in the mix?
