    Another good video my bearded scally cap wearing friend! As you mentioned bouncing around the country as we do we just never really know what we are getting for water. We are one of those Berkey owners and lucky for us we do have plenty of counter space so no harm. We would entertain the idea of switching our outside filter however.

    The Berkey system is being sued for lying about how good their filter works and come to find out it's "NOT" even close to doing what they say it can do. They are also "WAY" over priced for not being a good filter. People tried calling the company to ask questions but only get the run around. Watch out for Berkey Filters, use at your own risk.

    Seemed interesting until I couldn't find any reference to the filters being NSF certified. Just like the Berkey, they don't have their filters tested to a standard, rigorous protocol. Berkey filters were independently tested to the standard (not Berkey's) and found that their effectiveness didn't even last to 1/4 their rated capacity.

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well with the Nautilus System that all Grand Design RVs have in the water bay you just turn the knobs to the winterize mode and turn the pump on it. It bypasses you water heater and pumps the antifreeze through out the camper. As far as the on board water filter in the wet bay and the water filter under my sink you would just remove the filters from the canisters before doing this. Otherwise that’s it, and you be good to go 👍🏼

    Good vid... I'm wondering about putting the 1/2 flexible tubing onto the pex fitting? I am wanting to do the same, but the 1/2 vinyl tubing I.D. is slightly larger than the PEX barb, and I've gathered (through tons of research) that it can cause leaks later on. What are your thoughts and how has your setup been as far as the pex-barb-to-hose-and-clamp connections? It's only been a year since you posted this so maybe it's not enough time to ask but any info is helpful.
    I've been going crazy trying to find 1/2 NPT Swivel to 1/2 to hose barb (need swivel for my application in case I need to repair later) but all there is are the crappy plastic ones (without any rubber gaskets) that usually come with water pumps.
    Thanks :)

    Loved the video and been watching your content for several months. Just good practical stuff for RVers while keeping it short and straight to the point! Keep it up!!!
    Now, I've got 2 questions here. 1) Why did you not replace your "whole house" filter system (usually a 5 micron filter that is 10") with their larger unit and call it a day? And, 2) Do you have any idea how long these filters can last? TIA

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Appreciate that. It’s always a fine balance of trying to keep it short but also not leaving out a bunch of what I deem to be important information still.
      1) I don’t need to replace my on 10” onboard cabin filter canister in my wet bay, I just simply use their 10” 0.2 micron filters in my existing canister. So that’s my second stage of filtration after the outside inline water filter. Then the 5” canister solo unit under my sink is the 3rd stage.
      2) It said 3-4 months on their website for how long they should last but it also said that can vary on the water quality coming through them and consumption. I usually try to change mine every 3 months. 👍🏼

    • @randymullin550
      @randymullin550 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WhyWait Unfortunately for me, my "whole house" system takes a KW1-type filter, so I'd have to replace that housing entirely in order to use the Blu Technolgy 10" filter for my entire rig. That might be a better option for me. Do you know if their 10" is pretty standard and can fit "most" whole-house water filter housings out there (except mine!!! LOL). I do the same as you in putting a 20-micron before anything to catch the big stuff.

    • @WhyWait
      @WhyWait  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PamW2009 maybe this will help explain it…nothing to worry about.
      MICROGLASS is constructed with pleated borosilicate fiber glass filter media and effects removal of particles smaller than 1μm. The high surface area ensures long service life and low pressure drops. MICROGLASS provide consistent submicron contaminant removal, high dirt-holding capacity and high flow rates, while removing colloids, aggregated and non-product proteins, lipids and other particles. Glass fiber filter effectively protects downstream membrane filters and equipment. All the cartridges are manufactured and assembled in a clean room environment to minimize the possibility of contamination. MICROGLASS cartridges are available in a wide range of configurations to fit most commercially available filter housings.
      the microfibers are what they say they are, very fine fibre of specific diameters and lengths blended and formed in a specific manor to produce a matrix with certain sizes of free area dependant on grade. The fibres are selected, treated and formed in such a way that they form a very tight labyrinth that has an enormous amount of free area, the labyrinth causes the particles or aerosols to constantly change direction and as they do their speed decreases until they are caught by the glass fibres.
      They either come to a gap too small for them to travel through or they get caught on the fibres, which because of the way they are treated have a surface that grabs small particles and aerosols. This is accentuated by the fact that the fibres also have a static charge, even though they are normally coated with a binder of some sort. At this stage coalescing and particle filters behave differently.
      With the particle filters the particles are held firm and as more get attached to the same spot; the tighter they are held. Due to the fact there is so much free area within the labyrinth an enormous amount of dirt is held in comparison to the size of the filter element. In fact far more dirt is held than any other type of element, before the element becomes too blocked or blinded and needs changing.
      A coalescing element is constructed with a fine layer of borosilicate glass micro fibres which is described above, with a coarser layer of borosilicate glass microfibers formed on the outside of the fine layer. As the aerosol is captured in the fine layer, gradually they start to pool together and as the droplets form they start to move partly by capillary action and partly from the fluid flow through the element. As they move they gather more of the aerosol making the droplets larger, but in the fine layer their growth is restricted, until they move into the coarse layer, where the droplets can really start to form. These droplets gradually move and grow all the time until they reach the outside of the element, where they can clearly be seen to form and run down the side of the element eventually dropping off the end.

      It would work solo. But I like the idea of running a inline water filter first to filter out sediment and bigger crap to prolong the life of the 0.2 micron filter. It would still be fine by itself but may kind of “clog” up quicker.

    • @jasonb9913
      @jasonb9913 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It will work solo but its not intended to be an initial filter as it will clog faster and shorten life span. To maximize the life of the of the 0.5-0.1 micron final filters of any system, you should use them only where such filtration is needed and put sediment filters (5 micron and larger) at the source outside the RV and then a 1 micron finer filter after that for the the "whole house" stuff. That will keep things like the screen inside the toilet flush valve and the extra sediment out of your your water heater. Then only use to final 0.2-0.1 micron for your drinking water, ice maker, etc. That is how you maximize the life of the expensive filter in the system.
