  • The 1982 Mack R686ST (aka truck #17) is just about ready to have the cab removed. In this video I get the cab cleaned out, remove the seats, shifters, floor plate, doors, and air cleaner. I bought two rebuilt differentials that we will be putting in very soon. The only thing left to do is unhook all of the airlines and wiring and figure out just how exactly I'm going to pick this cab up off the frame without damaging anything.

    R Models all the way. That is all I was around during the 70's, 80s, 90s
    Love the fact that they were the only truck manufacturer that could build a truck from the ground up with their own parts. Would love to own a golden dog R Model or Superliner E9 powered Mack

    great video, congrats on the subs 👍, I drove a series one superliner here in Australia a few moons back, it also had the second stick for deep reduction, and was also fitted with a wet retarder to the back of the box, much better than an engine retarder, but no nice grumble...... keep up the great work. looking forward to all this upcoming cab work ....

      Thank you! Thats awesome. I would be sad if I didn't have a jake brake, the truck would just feel incomplete. There's plenty of work to do that's for sure. Luckily the wiring is in good shape, so I shouldn't have to mess with that too much. Thanks for watching!

    R Models are my favorite truck. What trans do you have in that truck? Trying to figure out why you have two sticks and an air shift knob, Keep at it and you will have a good truck when you are done.

    • @oilfarmer706
      @oilfarmer706  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine as well. I don't remember the model off the top of my head but the second stick is strictly deep reduction. You can only put into lo gear when your main is in low and let me tell you it is VERY deep reduction. The air shifter on the main stick has 4 selections on it. Under drive, direct drive, neutral, and reverse. You can do 35 mph or better in reverse in this truck.
      Thanks for watching!

      @@oilfarmer706 That’s called a 12 speed.

    • @oilfarmer706
      @oilfarmer706  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's what I've always called it but the actual model number is TRX1070 or something to that affect.

    • @4051a
      @4051a ปีที่แล้ว

      Was it converted to the two stick or am I missing something. Is the air shift working, and if it is how do you shift it. I had the two stick 6 speed in all of my trucks, I didn't like the air shift side box.

    • @oilfarmer706
      @oilfarmer706  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know if this transmission is factory or not. The hole in the floor for the second stick definitely does not look factory. The air shift does work. You have the standard lo, 1, 2, 3, 4 pattern but you have under drive and direct on every gear. The stick closest to the seat is your lo hole. You have to put your main in lo then you can shove the second stick forward into lo. Now you have under drive and direct in the lo hole. The main stick will not move out of lo until you put the second stick back into high.

    What did that company where that truck came from do with that big Mack they used to have

    • @oilfarmer706
      @oilfarmer706  ปีที่แล้ว

      They used to have a lot of macks so I don't really know which one in particular you are talking about but I know they sold off pretty much their whole old fleet and got a bunch of new trucks.
