Each Nightwsish song is not really the same, each song is a different journey. Each singer brought her specificities to the writing of the songs. Anette was not able to sing in the Tarja's way, so Tuomas has to do something different for the band and that worked! "Imaginaerium" and "Dark Passion Play" are two great albums. Floor being able to sing both Tarja and Anette's songs brought new possibilities for Tuomas and Nightwish. As you said, nothing is better or worse, just different, and it is always great each time !
Slow Love Slow, it showed that both band and Anette have heard real jazz in their lifetime. I mean old school French quarter feels jazz. Her voice suite's this style of singing nicely.
This is one example that they can do what ever....Tuomas is able for all genres from church organ music to black metal. Check "Meadows of Heaven" by Anette era...I think she is at her best in that.
Apparently you haven't heard Master Passion Greed, or Poet & the Pendulm, LOL! I think Tuomas wanted to be as far away as possible from the tarja sound, he n ce the Annette choice. Had Floor been available in 2005 he might well have gotten her then. After Forever opened a concert for them in 2004, so they knew her well. I think the Annette period went south quickly as far as chemistry, plus her concert voice isn't there. A room play like this is perfect, thousands of concert goers, you can barely hear her. Floor did this even beter, just not the video investment.
White Ward (from Ukraine) plays/mixes jazz and (black) metal. Shade Empire (orchestral black metal) has few jazz elements in their "Poetry Of The Ill-Minded" album. And of course pure jazz trio: Alex Scolnick Trio (Alex is known for his guitar work in Testament) flips around by covering metal and rock tunes plus some originals. Something for the starters
Anette has chops! Love this song. The creepy feel and the later thick, heavy guitars are in synch with the rest of the Imaginaerum movie! Check this out? Emppu and Anette NOT with Nightwish - th-cam.com/video/I9rjyabB_-A/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=joaodavid
That chorus is one of the most beautiful melodies that Tuomas has ever written - and I LOVE seeing/hearing Emppu play that jazzy/bluesy solo
This was definitely something I was not ready for with Nightwish, but boy was I pleased to hear it! I agree, that chorus is absolutely beautiful.

Nightwish goes jazz, great! Anette did it well. ⛄👍
Yep, Nightwish doing jazz... Go figure.
Was not on my bingo card lol

Floor did a version of this song at her solo concert. m.th-cam.com/video/bBG8GdyLYDk/w-d-xo.html
Jazz metal is actually a thing. Panzerballett, SHINING (NOR), Animals as Leaders etc.
Interesting, had no idea. I'll have to check a few of these out.
