Watched 2 or 3 videos on this subject before watching yours. Yours was best because you demonstrated exactly what’s happening to our car and completely demonstrated the fix - even mentioning the sunroof has to be completely closed for the final (one-touch) reset. Thank you sir!!
I just wanted to give you a HUUUUUUUUGE thank you! You made my day, and frankly, my summer. For a month now my sunroof would not open. Thought it would cost a fortune to fix. Stumbled across your video. Have a 2008 BMW 330i. Held down the sunroof power button and 15 seconds later, it opened! Now works perfectly! You're awesome. Thanks from Victoria BC Canada
@@CrazyCarMods now if I can figure out why my engine light keeps coming on error code P0172 System Too Rich bank 1. O2 sensor maybe? Do you have any videos on that? LOL
I'm in Texas and my sunroof wouldn't close ... it jammed up and then would reopen every time. And I have to travel all the way back to Minnesota. I feared that my sunroof would be partially open in the frigid weather. but thanks to this video it just corrected itself ... so grateful. Thank you
Oh man, I can imagine. I know how it feels. The thought of having the sunroof open and not being able to close it, its nerve recking. Luckily, I spoke to a master tech, and he showed me the trick. Then i decided to pass it on. That's how this video came about .
Thank you!!! Wow. I was going crazy trying to close my sunroof. You saved me a trip to the dealer and a lot of money. :) So glad it did not rain when my sunroof was open. Keep making great videos just like these to help us BMW owners. I love your detailed and helpful videos.
Your welcome Christie, I was going crazy the first time sunroof wouldn't close too. Luckily it didn't rain either, so I figured I should make this video, exactly for that reason. Glad it helped you out 👍 Check out some of my other videos, There is some pretty cool stuff in there.
THANK YOU!!! OMG. My sunroof is now working the way it should. It wasn't tilting nor was it opening or closing automatically. I have my BMW 528i for almost a month and wondered why I couldn't open nor close my sunroof automatically and why the tilt didn't work. I should have done this research sooner. It now works like a charm. Much thanks again bro.
Thank you so much I just bought a 2018 BMW 530i I couldn't understand why the sunroof suddenly stopped working came across your video thank you so much
Brilliantly helpful. My sunroof failed 2016 - 330 touring for the 3rd time as I left the garage. I sat in the car park , followed your video & im delighted. . Thankyou.

My sunroof kept opening and closing on its own in my 2018 750i and I was getting annoyed. Then the sunroof shade was stuck open. I was SO skeptical that this would not work in my car, but it did!!!! Thank you so much!!!!?!
Thank you thank. I have a 2014 BMW 528i I just got it back from the mechanic shop and my sunroof was not closing properly but it was open I did the sunroof reset and now working just fine now
This worked on your x5? I have a 2016 x5 and one corner isn’t flush with the roof, it’s sagging on that corner and I tried to reset it and it’s doing nothing! BMW replaced my sunroof 3 yrs ago and won’t cover it now.
@@lilanelson2750 Sorry to hear that. This procedure overrides the anti trap mechanism and forces the sunroof to re-learn the close, open and tilt positions for the roof. If you have a dropped corner that sounds like a mechanical failure. Until it’s fixed, check that water can drain away ok via the two front corner drain holes, otherwise water can easily run over and cause damage to the interior.
This Sunroof reset also worked on my X3 F25 2012 model .... my sunroof buttons would not work at all, I checked the fuses and they were all okay ... but this saved me a trip to the garage
THANK YOU! I just took delivery of a new-fangled 2024 i7 with tons of gadgetry several days ago and I think I confused things setting the roof shade to close automatically when the car is locked and went in and out of the car with connected Bluetooth phone, NFC card and physical keys numerous times during my experimentation. I tried your solution and it worked like a charm. I then deliberately left the car, and at auto-lock, the roof DID close automatically! I owe ya a beer! 🙂
Check to see if something came lose or if there is something on the way of the mechanism that opens. Open up your sunroof (the sliding part you do with your hand. Then on each side (driver & passenger side) there is an accordion plastic piece that you can remove by pulling it out. Take that out and see what's not allowing it to move.
I have a 2007 BMW 525i I tried that method not working for mine because I opened the sunroof and when I closed it I heard a big noise when closing it. what does that mean for the sunroof?
Sounds like it may have came of the rail. Try this: Go to your sunroof and remove the black plastic that is in the side (looks like an accordion type) just pull up or down by one of the ends. Just look really close to see when is being grab on and take it off by unhooking it. This way you will be able to see the actual Hinges from the sunroof. Remove both sides of course. Then try to close it and see what gets stuck or see if the re something lose. It could be as simple as a screw that is lose or came in lose. As long as it try’s to close or move, then that means there is something wrong with Hench or sliding process. Get a mirror in there or a camera (like using your cellphones selfie camera to record or see better. Then go from there. The 2 screws you see on both sides of the sunroof by the hinges are what adjust the height of your sunroof it self, so don’t mess around with those screws unless you need to adjust the height of the sunroofs glass by leveling it of with the roof of your car. Hope that helps bro
There may be something on the track. Can be dirt or may be something lose or broken. When you're looking at the sunroof from the inside there is two black plastic accordion pieces (one on each side) they can come off by uncliping them. Remove them and take a look at what may be on the way or see how the mechanical system is doing. You can see if it's stuck or if something is on the way o r if its even moving ect... Take a look, hopefully that gives you some answers. Hope that helps.

What if the reset doesn’t get it to open?
So what do I do, if once i reset my sunroof, it just gets stuck on tilt?
I tried that method with my sunroof but metal hinge I heard like a big thunk noise what does that mean?

When you're looking at the sunroof from the inside there is two black plastic accordion pieces (one on each side) they can come off by uncliping them. Remove them and take a look at what may be on the way or see how the mechanical system is doing.
You can see if it's stuck or if something is on the way o r if its even moving ect...

I also opened the moonroof together with the shade do you think that caused the issue
No, you shouldn't have an issue. I do it all the time.
When I opened and closed long ago
I saw a video about the hinge I should put like a special glue to not hear the metal hinge from hitting.
Ty ty ty our sun roof tilts now
I’ve tried this and it doesnt work. What should I do?
This works on x5
My sun roof is tilted in the back and wont close
Same here, did you fix it?
Yes…but the sunroof liner still didn’t close……???
Mine seems to only tilt, but not open? Your truck at least helped the tilt open!
My sunroof still won’t close. I have a moon roof. The back part won’t close. I have a BMW X3!
