John McEnroe is really the purest talent in the history of the game and Ivan Lendl improved his game during the match because, even if now he is old, he continues to be a champion in the mindset. I admire you guys!
He was a superb volleyer, and had a great serve, but we saw what happened when he ran into power players like Lendl and, later in his career, Agassi. They took his spins, dinks and blocked service returns and swatted it off the court.

Lab test have always shown very minor differences in velocity off different strings, and the raquets are stiffer, with larger sweet spots and thus more powerful. Current thinking is that the the elasticity vs friction of polyester in recovering quickly from ball deformation is the source of increased spin.
there is nothing wrong with getting old, the fact that they are still playing and have respect for one another is a great thing to see. I loved both lendl, mcenroe and sampras, but when sampras retired and came back for exhibition games, I don't expect to see him play like he did before. I am sure you are not the same as when you played 20 or 30 years ago.
Tennis is fun & great exercise at any age, & if you think you can't have a good time watching these two legends, think again.. and its worth a few bucks as well..they earned the right to be doing just this..
Mac is really fit these days. He still wants it in every match. His verbal outbursts are all real and always were. He gets frustrated that he can't quite deliver what he did as a player. That's unrealistic but in his mind he still wants to play like in 1984. Good for him.

In this exhibition match Lendl is playing with a Fox/Warren Bosworth racket which has an unusual geometric head shape ( I believe it is octagonal in configuration) and is standard width (18mm -19mm wide). Lendl years ago, shortly before or after he retired from the pro tour, played an exhibition doubles match at the Philadelphia Spectrum using an earlier version of the Bosworth racket, which is the same racket that Brad Gilbert played with during his pro career.
It's very funny to see the disparaging remarks about their level. I would love to see any of the commentators (young, old, or in between) go out there and win a point off of either of these two. McEnroe could still (at this current age) have a world ranking in doubles. If you doubt me, look at the longevity of Navratilova - - same style of play even.
Only way to win a point is a lucky net court or freak bounce. And there would hardly be a chance of a rally to begin with. However a lot of former major champs are hopeless at predictions and inconsistent at coaching.

He said he would trade all his other tournament victories for one Wimbledon championship. I remember one year at Wimby he was up a set (2-1 I think) and a break against Becker... then there was a lengthy rain delay. The rest is history.
yep - Mac's groundies doesnt look like much compared to today's elaborate setup with the western grips (I think he is almost a continental grip!) - but very effective non the less
Mac improved his backhand! Lendl did some good serves. Great to have seen these two players again after so many years. Both are great sportsmen. John aged better though :-)
When Mac beat Agassi (see my other MSG vid) he said in the interview that in this match he was kicking Lendl's ass. So they are never really gonna totally get over the past, at least not Mac, but they are friendlier now than when they were on tour.

Not really, I do both. I have paid to watch Mac and others play on Seniors tour and frankly I find it at least as interesting as the current tour. Then the next day I go out and play. It's All Good.

Well as tended to happen toward the end of their pro rivalry, Lendl won. But wasn't this with Mac retiring at 6-3 up? Mac got him earlier in the seniors tour I look forward to catching the two of them at some point on video for sure.
