Professor Organic Chemistry Tutor, thank you for an awesome video/lecture on The Introduction to Inclined Planes in Physics/Engineering Physics. The free body diagrams are the heart and soul of solving inclined plane physics problems. All physics students must know how to draw and analyze free body diagrams in physics. This is an error free video/lecture on TH-cam TV with the Organic Chemistry Tutor.
Thanks so much man. Ive been stuck on resolving components and solving incined plane questions for the past year till i found this video. You are an amazing teacher 👏
20:38 this is debatable, making it come to a stop makes it seem like there is friction on the incline which is not included in calculations. gravity will ultimately pull the block back down. what i did was multiply the time it takes to get to its max height by 2, which is saying that it will reach a max height and then go back to where it started.
The video explains the physics of inclined planes, covering key formulas like normal force, gravitational components, and acceleration, including the effects of friction. It demonstrates calculations for blocks on inclines with varying angles and friction conditions. [17:31] Calculating the distance traveled on an inclined plane - Solving for the distance 'd' on the incline} - Determining the time it takes for the block to stop} - Using the kinematic formula to calculate final velocity}
Thank you very much sir, i have cleared all my basic doubts with this video on inclined surfaces topic.I never seen this type of explanation ever before.
Hello! your video is really helpful and we really appreciate your work! Just wanna let you know that you made a mistake after you drew the triangle on the right at 1:30, the x and y should swap to make it correct. y = mg cos theta, x = mg sin theta.
Yes, you are right, I also saw that he put y on the horizontal direction...it's a small mistake but it could confuse people. For the rest his videos are really great :)
at 2:53 Fnet on y-axis should be zero to say that Fn=mg cos(angle), while the object is moving at an angle which means that it's moving with acceleration on x and y axes which means Fnet on y, is not equal to zero
For those who want some more exercise on the decomposition of vectors in these inclined plane exercises, I made a video specifically for this: th-cam.com/video/SD546C52Okc/w-d-xo.html It might help some of you :)
i loveyouru videos and you do a great job explaining everything, but at 1:40.. you should have used the bottom line as x as it is parallel to the x axis of the incline and should have used y as the line perpendicular to the incline. because you did it backwards i had to keep in mind that for every formula you gave for sin and cosine, i had to switch them. just saying..but other than that great job and thank you very much.
My Uni professor takes pride in not giving lecture because "it doesn't challenge us", so learning how this stuff works from the internet is the solution to that problem
Based off your example questions, AND the importance of diagram accuracy in which way the triangle is facing being important cause it can change up the signs: HOW do you know which way to draw your triangle?!?
Thanks for the explanation 🙏.. now how do you tell the direction which the free body diagram should face to give you a postive or a negative value for acceleration ? 😓😓
It is not intuitive, but think about a shallow ramp, say 10°. Most of mg will be directed downward. Cos of 10° will be nearly 1, whereas sin will be very small. So mg toward the ground will be cos theta and mg down the shallow ramp will be sin theta.
Sir great video. One question. On the problem where the block is sliding down a 30 degree incline, wouldn’t your net force be Fg + (-fk)? Since the block is going down in the direction of gravity and friction is in the opposite direction, great video again
