- See how easy it is to remove the 6.8L v10 Ford engine oil pan. I'll show you how to do it yourself with tools just about any home mechanic should have. The odometer reads less than 26K miles on this engine. I've had this 1997 Ford E350 Jamboree Sport Motorhome for 10 years. I started the engine only to discover an internal knocking noise. I removed the front of the engine to find one of the timing chain guides was missing. Was able to locate a few pieces of metal from the front of the oil pan but would need to remove it to find out more. Watch this video to see all the internal damage and help determine just how junk this engine is.
I did find two rods broken in half along with fragmented pistons and wrist pins.

Most chill dude ever 🤘🏻
Great video and sorry for the result, I do have a fleet , most E250 4.6l and 5.4l , I'll replace the oil pan cuz it's leaking, omg I was waiting for second lift to come that way I won't stuck but you gave me a hope to work on the ground , I appreciate this good video and sorry for your loss
thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching!
14:16 The sound of a rock tumbler (cringe). Right then, a "fix it" job blew up into a rip it out and replace it job. I'da been cussin up a storm at that point. Thank you for sharing.
Just another day in paradise, lol.
Thanks man I have similar van the e 350 5.8l . Informative video much appreciated.
wow catastrophic thanks for the vid having low oil pressure problem myself was thinking it could be the suck tube are the pump.
First thing I look at is the oil pressure sending unit. If there is a knocking noise, it is not the sending unit. No knocking noise, toss in a new oil pressure sending unit and test. As an option you can install a oil pressure gauge once the oil pressure sending unit is removed and test for actual pressure instead of the dash gauge. Good luck with your project.
@@FreeAutoMechanic thanks will try it I cheeked the oil and the pressure regulator one the bottom pump no metal bits are glitter looking stuff was thinking of tasting the pump at the oil filter to see if it fills the bowl its a E 350 van so the filter is under the motor not sheer if the test will work all the vids show the oil filter on top its a 6.0 but that pressure gage should work it currently won't start
Thank you for this. It's my second time removing an oil pan and I needed a refresher. I'm sorry that you dealt with that mess. I would like to know though what was your complete repair to you Ford? Please tell.
I removed the engine in this video: th-cam.com/video/EM69E1T7HOc/w-d-xo.html and the engine is still setting where you see it at the end of the video for now. Might still tear the engine down and look at the rest of the internals to see what's what.
Thanks for the video. I am having low pressure problems. We just replaced the oil pump and thought it was fixed but as it still turns out I still have low oil pressure. By chance do you know if the oil pan can be removed with out pulling the motor on a 2009 Ford E450 RV with the Triton V10 (6.8) ? At the moment my thought is that the pickup tube is plugged.
My thought would be if there is no knocking noise, the oil pressure sensor needs replace if it is showing low oil pressure on dash. Example Video: th-cam.com/video/GO1Q-q32pMw/w-d-xo.html
@@FreeAutoMechanic We have no noise and we put on a aftermarket gauge with a tee at the sending unit to be able to read both. The manual gauge appears to be correct. At idle I get 25-28 psi. At 200- 300 rpm the psi ramps up to about 50-55psi but then drops back down to 25-28psi.
@@markarenwick6267 As long as you have 10 psi of oil pressure for every 1,000 rpm, you are good to go. (ex. 30 PSI @ 3,000rpm is good) So, 25-28 @ idle is more than enough.
@@FreeAutoMechanic Thank you.
Thank you im tackling this atm
Can a faulty oil pump sending unit switch or oil pump itself going bad, CAUSE idle issues ESPECIALLY when going down inclines.?
Also, do you have to disconnect anything on the top of the motor like throttled cable or hoses.?
No on the cause of your idle issues, at least not in most common occurrences. As for disconnecting hoses, etc. Here is a link with step by step instruction from the Auto Repair Manual: www.freeautomechanic.com/mechanic/forum/2021/10/ford-v10-6-8l-engine-oil-pan-removal
Thanks for sharing. Sorry for your loss.
Thank You
thanks bud for the video
Your welcome, thanks for watching!
Hello, how many miles does it run before gets broke?
Your's faithfully
Tony
This engine has around 35k miles on it.
Sorry about that
Thanks
Im just having a hard time understanding where on the engine your jacking it up!
@.38 you can see the bottle jack placed under bellhousing. And you can see throughout the video the engine hoist with a chain connected to the engine. When you jack the hoist the engine lifts up. I have the chain connected to the back side of the head and the front connected tot he bolt at bottom by the balancer.
Well now it's the 5.4l V8.
Should get better mileage.
You would think, lol😀
Can’t hear what you’re saying in the video 🤷♀️
Agree with you on that. I have since acquired a cordless microphone. It has made a world of difference in every way possible. Check out some of my newer videos and you can see what I mean. Thanks for watching!
I wouldn't recommend jacking the engine from crank pulley. This puts the ENTIRE weight of the engine on the main bearings which are made of aluminum. Ford says to hoist the engine from the top. Nicely done otherwise
