Thanks for the explanation on how to straighten a bent axle.

Here's a tip for your viewers: In extreme cases of bent axles, use the tool on the face side of the bearing between the nipple on the axle and the bearing. Not between the bearing and the frame. Why: If to much torch and force is used on the bearing style or cap style wheels you stand a very good chance of popping the bearing or hub off of the axle. If this happens you'll need to replace the entire axle.

Thanks for teaching us how to straighten out wheels. All I need to know now is, where can I buy the tool you use to straighten out wheels.😉

Quick tip: to replace the permanent style wheels you can take apart a hot wheels 50th anniversary car and take the wheels from there.

Thanks. I wondered because HW's released that pack of wheels to customise cars and it includes the same tool you have - perhaps some of the wheels are baring and cap style then? Do you know if The Hot Ones from 2011/12 have suspension and diecast bases?

Jon, How do you get the cap wheels off if they are so worn you can't see the break between the cap and the base wheel? Do you still use an exacto knife or do you have another trick? Trying to get Rocket Bye Baby caps off and having no luck removing caps....

All modern hot wheels are permanent. There are some vintage cars released that have bearing and cap style wheels. ie Hot Wheels Redline Club Cars and specials.

What I'd love to know is how axles get so bent in the first place. Ever since I was a kid in the early 70s, I've never bent an axle on any of my cars, but locating some old second hand ones, every second car has a bent axle or a busted wheel.

Here cos my 3 year old has been buying disney cars and he crawls along the floor with weight of palm all on the top of the car which bends the axles. Wouldn't be bothered but it stops them being effective on his tracks, but that's how his get bent anyway.

Hi, Jon, I have a question for you... I have a Hot Wheels Tony Hawk skate series Rigor Motor car I bought at the swap meet and later realized the axle is bent. I went back and told the Hot Wheels guy about it and he let me have another car. I said I want to buy some more too. So later he said you can have that car. He apologized about that. He said that it can be straightened so my friend found this tool on eBay. This is for an older Hot Wheels.
I'm not sure if this one will work to straighten the axle because I saw this one video on how to straighten the axle but it's for older 60's and 70's Hot Wheels. There is No white piece on the back of the wheel or a piece you use for the Exacto knife. It' appears to be a solid wheel. This is what I found on eBay. The end of your tool is open this one is not. Your tool looks more universal where it is open on the end?" I plan to buy other older Hot Wheels and newer Hot Wheels. I wonder what you recommend I get?" It looks as if that tool on eBay is only for an older Hot Wheels. I just want to straighten the axle. Any help would be great Thanks for the video. 😊

I've got a really nice Shelby Turbine with the cap style wheels, but it is missing the cap and rear piece on one. It is down to the wire axle. I've got a junker I want to swap the entire wheel from.
Any tricks to doing this? Can't find anything online about this.
    Thanks a lot.

Thank you! Anyone find a video on restoring the original wheels, instead of replacing them with new ones? I try to keep my original wheels, even if they are not perfect. I see genius and tenacious restoration work on bodies, grills, windshields, interiors, but then they give up without a fight on restoring original wheels; and destroy the wheels while removing them - wheels I would gladly keep. Am I alone in feeling this way?

no i feel like i would like to keep them as orginal as possible the ones im trying to restore right now ive had since i was 10 years old the only thing i can see needs to be done to mine so far is they need a good cleaning up maybe to be rechromed a little which i think that can be done with 1 of those chrome pens

How am I able to tell if my Custom Dodge Charger Redline has a bearing cap style? I am new to redline, so I am not going to try and peal it off. Lol. To me it seems as if it is a bearing style.

Hey!! I have a RARE Audi R8 2007 first edition. The right rear wheel has been bendy and its probably due to the axle. Will this tool work for that too? thanks!

    • @jondouglas7051
