This song isn’t just a bop it’s one of their highly politicized songs. A high ranking govt official made comments about citizens being un intelligent pigs and dogs. This song directly has them on the floor like dogs and pigs and the lyrics and many other things that tie into the situation. And they performed it on TV which at the time ran the risk of getting them black listed, but doesn’t stop our guys. Love this song so much.
Yeah, I JUST read about it now, how it was part of the criticism against the corrupt prime minister and - as you mentioned - a high ranking official from the Ministry of Education among others; a stern reprimand that if you accept the situation as normal, if it doesn't anger you, you are wrong (abnormal).
Love it. They are so good at making these songs where the tune and the look/sound is so upbeat and perky, and then the lyrics are just a kick in the bells while they grin at you... :D

It's BTS, there's always more than face value. 😉 Quote from a really good Billboard article (I know, the irony 🤦♀️) on their political songs: "The song’s 2016 release came shortly after a Ministry of Education official, Na Hyang-wook, reportedly said that South Korea needs a caste system, and described the average person as “dogs and pigs” who should be treated as such. Suga’s rap doesn’t overtly address the situation, but its inclusion wouldn’t be lost on South Korean listeners and is one of the group’s most political moments."

They quite literally risked their career with this song, at a time when the Park Geun-hye administration was compiling a blacklist of artists who were critical of them or who contributed to the charity fund for families of the Sewol tragedy victims. (BTS and BigHit contributed to the fund as soon as news of that blacklist came out, basically daring the government to add them to the list, too.) I love their values, their ethics, and their bravery! 💜💜💜
This is why I so admire their cheeky risk taking selves. No safe easy pop songs, they put things subtly in but in this song it’s pretty blatantly a political clap back.

I love watching the dance practice of this song. Such a good song. What I love about their songs is you can have 2 reaction experiences - first the initial surface enjoyment and then diving into the lyrics and being blown away by the message and lyricsm.

I remember when I first heard this song, my jaw about dropped the floor. BTS sampled the Keb' Mo' song "Am I Wrong," which is an amazing Delta Blues song from the early 1990s. Keb' Mo' is one of my favorite non BTS artists. If you have a minute give the Keb' Mo' version a listen. It's cool as hell.
I love that they did t just sample him but credited him, as they should.
By the way, this song is a sample of the blues am i wrong of Keb mo, winner of 5 Grammys, even his voice is throughout the song and has credits not only in the composition but also in the production. There are even fragments of the original version as the beginning that is the voice of Keb Mo.
This is one of the songs that make me have great respect for them since they showed that they were not afraid to express their opinions because they referred to the declaration of a senior official of the Ministry of Education that gave that a caste system was required pointing out that citizens were dogs and pigs, to criticize the indifference of many to the news and events in general.
After all the criticisms and problems that arose against the Government for their negligence in the rescue of Sewool and all subsequent repercussions, the government began to repress artists who made some criticism against their performance or showed sympathy for parents, creating a blacklist of those who could not receive any government support.
Coincidentally in October 2016 that was when they launched this song, it was the same month that a great case of government corruption was uncovered, which led to the president being provisionally separated from the position. But not only on that occasion they demonstrated their courage but in others as it was that in February 2017 they launched Spring Day with their MV (full of references to the shipwreck), by the way that the next month the president was dismissed and imprisoned.
Even in 2020 it was learned that in an interview with the parents for the anniversary of the Sewool shipwreck, they revealed that in 2014, a few months after celebrating their first anniversary of debut, BTS not only made a donation to the organization created by the Parents but also visited them accompanied by Bang PD. Together with the parents they lit incense and asked for the deceased students. In gratitude to their company, the parents decided not to reveal the visit for the repression they could suffer from the government when they were barely a rising group.
This song is fantastic. The rythm is so special. . So much fun and great choreo. And as always, fun beat but very profound lyrics. How good way to deliver serious messages with a smile a crazy choreos. And let´s not forget epic Jimin at 13:11 !!!!!! It is one of the best moments of Min Min. His moves and that carzy range.

In 2016 An official said 99 % of the population were dogs and pigs who would be satisfied if their stomachs were full… at a time of blacklists for artists and journalists in the aftermath the Sewol tragedy, BTS spoke back with this track.
Park was impeached and sentenced to 25 yrs but was pardoned by the current conservative gov.

Talking of Jimin, you really need to check out the BTS cover of 'I'll Be Missing You' that they did as part of their BBC Live Lounge set. Jimin's vocal on that is out of this world. To be honest all the members are great but Jimin, just WOW! Another great cover is 'Fix You', the Coldplay song. The first time I heard that it took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes, so have tissues handy. Keep giving us these amazing reactions, Luke. A very underrated song, and unlike Spring Day which came out AFTER the corrupt politicians had already been stripped of power, they risked their careers with it because it takes direct aim at the people who contributed to the Sewol Ferry sinking ("Mayday! Mayday!")
