I have been using Camtasia since version 1.0 and Camtasia is my go to application for adding my captions and creating my SRT files for TH-cam. I love the sync option for my script but there is just one thing that is really annoying when using the sync option. When I select sync and click to start the sync process there is a small dialog box that covers up almost all of the first 2 to 3 sentences. I often have a title of only a few words and this makes it extremely difficult to click on the 4th or 5th word during the sync process. After clicking to make the first caption break the dialog box goes away and I'm fine for the rest of the sync process. I would love it if this got removed in the next update.

Hello, love the video. Thank you. I am a Mac user, and I create my own captions while recording my podcast so I was wondering if I can use the add captions features from audio effects and then upload my SRT file in camtasia so that I can see the audio wave form under the captions. This will greatly help me edit the captions. Also, when will subtitles features, uploading transcript, and then syncing, come out for Mac? Thanks so much!!!
Thanks.. the import worked PERFECT! I actually did the creating of .srt file in a different free tool as it was very simple to clean it up there.. then imported in camtasia as shown (import .srt) and nothing else to do but export it with the right captions settings I wanted (burned in or not). Thanks.. turns out this was way more simple than expected.

Great video! I'm really enjoying these! Can you do a video on the easiest way to do voice over a video? So you record your voice and you want to match to different video and images. So what you say matches the scene. Hope I'm making sense
Definitely makes sense, and that's a great idea for a video. We have one on recording your voiceover coming up, but not on matching it to a recording. One tip we'd give though is "don't." If you try too hard to match it perfectly, it won't be perfect. But planning your script AND your on-screen content can often help align the two better before you get started. And don't be afraid of cutting a gap in the narration while the on-screen content moves. OR speeding up the on-screen content a bit to match. But I will definitely suggest this topic!

Great video! I find that pasting the script into TH-cam's AutoSync feature is quite the time-saver-that's assuming you have the script already written.

You mentioned Knowmia and Rev.com as ways to add captions. I am a beginner Camtasia user so using templates is great, but I need to know if there's a faster way (I'll pay) to connect court recorder transcripts to videos of court hearings. I think there are 20 videos or so that add up to about 10 hours. The recorder transcripts are double spaced and I think you said spaces matter. My channel is called Judicial Jiu-jitsu. Thanks for your help. I have watched many TH-cam how-to videos over the past six months, and yours are among the best, but it's still a steep learning curve. I am 71 years old and so I don't have a lot of time!
Thank you for the kind words! Honestly, court recorder transcripts may be problematic and time-consuming due to that structure. TH-cam has automatically captioned your videos already, but they may have many inaccuracies (especially with any pronouns). But you can always jump in and edit them (hence the 'time-consuming' part). I'm not aware of any court-specific captioning services, but you may contact Rev and see if they have something along those lines. I'm sure someone is out there ful-filling this need, especially if you're willing to pay them.
If I have a video of just pictures with music in the background, how do I get my written text to show up. I set it as closed caption so it showed up in Camtasia but when I posted it to You Tube, all of the inserted text was gone. Without the accompanying text, the video is worthless as it presents no reference points for the viewer to understand what is happening. I do a lot of photo only videos of my hikes and stuff so without being able to post written text onto the video is tough. I did open a ticket on this a while ago. I got a reply that said I needed to "burn" the text into You Tube. I have no idea what that means and have not been able to figure it out. Otherwise your video as always was very good. Could I read my added text so it would close caption it and then delete the audio. Would that accompli9sh what I am trying to do?
To burn the captions in, when you export the .mp4 video there's a box to check that says "Burn Captions In." It will create a new video file which you'll then have to upload new to TH-cam (probably have to delete the original or YT will think you have a duplicate).
If you JUST export the .srt file (captions) and then upload them to your current video, then your users can turn them off, which sounds like it wouldn't be a good option in your case.
My captions didn't show up in the video I exported. Seems the captions are exported separately, as you demonstrated. So, how do you 'glue' them back together for the shareable video? Not using a Mac
You CAN go back and export the captions as "burned in" but then the viewer can't choose to turn them on/off. So if you're ok using the two files (video/mp4 and captions/srt) then whatever platform you're using will have an option to "upload captions" or "upload subtitles." For example, on TH-cam after you've uploaded the video there's an option for going into the TH-cam Studio Editor to add them by uploading your SRT file.
@@techsmith I tried the burn in method and the captions are white. So is the screen. alot of text is barely seen. I think i can edit the colors, but i had it set to white lettering because there was supposed to be a black box around the letters. It seems it also depends on the media player.
After I finish a video that is going on TH-cam (YT) I export the caption file as an SRT file. I then click on the eyeball for the CC track and export the video to MP4 for a local file. Upload the video to YT and add the captions by uploading the SRT file. One of my latest videos has a lot of white background. The CC shows up with a translucent dark gray background and white text that is very easy to read. Maybe this workflow method will work for you.
In your screen that shows the TH-cam automatic captions, words are appropriately capitalized. Was that automatic - I have had to go through TH-cam's captions to correct all the capitalizations, and that is quite time consuming.
It was automatic, however I believe it was only because we'd already uploaded these captions prior to creating this video (we just re-did this for demonstration purposes). If you look really closely they spelled "Erin" as "Aaron" so I know these are automated, but your correct, they're typically lower-case.
Maybe unsurprisingly we use the Camtasia methods typically. :)
How do I record myself translating a video from my language to English???
I want my viewers to have the option to turn on/off caption when they play in their computer using whatever software they prefer (Windows Media Player for example). Rather than burn/embedded in the video. Can I do that? Cause it seems like i can do either burn or export as a legacy file (which created a folder and my viewer has to click on a HTML file)
If you go to the "Export" option in the File menu (File, Edit, etc.) then you should find the option to "Export Captions." Then you'll also export your video as an .mp4 (or whatever format) and when you upload the video to your preferred platform you can separately upload the caption file (.srt) as such. Usually it's in a different place however, whether called "subtitles" or "accessibility" or even "captions." But that way they're not burned in and your viewer has the option.
I don't see the Caption selection under the Effects menu per 1:52 of this video. I updated to the latest version of Camtasia 2020 which is version 10.0.13 (build 28357) - 2/11/2021, but still don't see it. Please help.
There are two Effects tabs, the Visual Effects and the Audio Effects. You should find them in the Audio Effects tab.
@@techsmith I have both windows version and Mac version of camtasia 2020. I see the caption selection in the Mac version, but not the windows version. I work for Cisco in the video service team. I want to use the windows version. Please help.
In the Mac version, I also see a pitch selection which I don’t see in the windows version.
@@lehsu I see, apologies Les, I misunderstood. Yes, the Audio Effects isn't where you'll find Captions on the Windows side, we have an entire Captions tab for Windows users which offers more flexibility and options. You can have those auto-generated as well! If you already have English especially, they'll use that to translate to any other language you select. Or you can upload your already-translated .srt file and they'll recognize the language automatically. We've found TH-cam's auto-translate to be 90-95% accurate depending on how well the speaker is enunciating.
